  1. It may be worse cause I am not a big Duke but I really don't like Paulus. VCU brought the game to him yesterday and while he responded w/ some tough play, he was constantly whining.
  2. Braves fan for a good long while. At least since Pendleton was traded to them back in '90. Course im surrounded by Cards fans in my family and at college. So its cool to cheer for them occassionally.......like when the World Series is in town and we get to party at Al Robowski's a block from New Busch.
  3. It may very well be but I'll go on record to say that LCA HAS to be the favorite going in. Few teams competed well with this region and I'd say Lex Cath and Scott Co. were still better then most of the state's competition. LCA also didn't have many teams give them troubles as their three losses were to Lex Cath twice and Henry Clay once. I'd say LCA with the All A already on their mantle will definately be tough to get past. Good Luck to them and all teams.
  4. LCA will have a tough one but I think should prevail. Lex Cath will hopefully be up for this one after a huge emotional win over Scott Co. earlier this week. Frankly im expecting LCA-Lex Cath part IV which would be one of the best games this state gets to see in terms of girl's basketball. Its rough being in a region that includes three top five teams. I'd say Boys and Girls 11th region this year definately was on the up.
  5. What were the stats for the game? I heard Keyla Snowden, Natalie Novosel, and Briana Green all three put up 20+ in this one. I was a bit shocked at the free throw differential Catholic had over Scott Co. considering this was at Georgetown. However, I know the Lady Knights are good at driving to the hole and drawing fouls such as in the second LCA game this season.
  6. You'd know better then me, I got the situation a bit mixed up. Still, like you said Cornhusker football-UK basketball have lots of similarities. Going to the midwest for college I have a lot of friends who cheer for Nebraska and we've agreed our fan bases are nuts.
  7. Oh, and about the race issue. IMHO Its wrong to hate anyone for the simple fact of color of skin. But it does exist and I have heard it said more then once about the Tub. However, with rose tinted glasses, I'd like to think, as most have said, that it is the minority, not the majority of UK fans who dislike Tubby and wanted him fired simply because he is Black.
  8. Here is a question, Do people criticize Yankee fans when they claim Joe Torre needs to be fired when he is still going to the playoffs but isn't winning rings? How about when Red Sox fans do the same for not being competitive enough? Were Nebraska football fans criticized when they wanted and got their coach fired after a 10 win season a few years back? Were UNC fans unpatient with Daughtery and his poor record as coach of the Tar Heels? Are Celtic fans being ridiculous to be upset with their program's current situation? Were Notre Dame fans rash to get rid of Ty Willingham? Heck, Real Madrid fans have one of the best soccer team's ever and they are always near the top of their table and international tournaments, but if they are mad because they aren't winning everything should we criticize them? The fact is that when you are fan to an elite program, expectations ARE ridiculous. Im a sane human being. I understand the difference between unreasonable expectations and reasonable expectations. Yet, I still get mad when UK doesn't win every game, every championship, every recruit, heck every loose ball. I know they wont win every time, but am I wrong to expect them to always be near the top, always be competitive, always be king of that hill everyone is trying to climb? If I don't think they are at the level they should be at, should I not at least be frustrated just a bit? Am I insane to question the heart and desire of players if I think they aren't doing their best(cough A-rod? cough)? Should I not at least demand a little more from the coach of the team? He is the leader, the figure head, the Captain, the General, the whatever else. So why are Kentucky fans so much worse then all these other people I've listed? Why do fans of other teams here on BGP think that we somehow are the one's who truely define fanatical? Why can't we want better for our program? Understand, I'm not a Tubby Basher, I ACTUALLY LIKE THE GUY. Heck, there are few men in the world who can get so much out of some players. The team four years ago that was #1 a lot of the season truely was a team that I doubt would have been that good with ANY other coach. Tubby has had his highs. However, being an elite program(YES, Kentucky is an elite) the expectation isn't just to be good some of the time or occupy the title of Top Dawg every now and then. People expect that team to always be in that small group of teams you expect to be at the top. Yes the elite have Hiccups, but you expect that the next year that ship gets righted. So are we fools to expect so much and get mad if we fall short every now and then? Probably, but we aren't alone and crazy in having these insane expectations.
  9. Very true. Add depth as well. The past few years they could go to their bench and have two to three girls that were just as good as the starters. This team has some great shooters but if they aren't playing well this team is vulnerable.
  10. So I just heard that this game went into triple overtime and Lexington Catholic won by 3. Anyone have details on this game? Either way, if you attended the 43rd District's Boys/Girls Championships you saw Lex Cath/LCA go to 2OT in the girls and Lex Cath/Creek go to 3OT in the boys. EXCITING BASKETBALL!!!
  11. If im correct, this the Lady Knights first region loss since 2002 in the region finals against Woodford Co. Of course looking on KHSAA doesn't help because Lexington Catholic sports seems to have had to forfeit every win ever.
  12. Just went final. Lex Cath's first region loss in a LONG TIME. 72-68 LCA. Congrats to Christian they've worked hard. Come on Lady Knights, bounce back to win region.
  13. Well, it just hit the second OT. 60-60. Corbett, a bench player for the Lady Knights hit a three w/ a second left to tie it up and go to the second OT.
  14. A big Head Shake and a sigh. Almost glad I was busy during the second half and had to miss it.
  15. I always considered Jared "Brick it" Prickett a negative.
  16. I wasn't comparing the two, the announcer was. And he even admitted that UK's team had a lot more depth.
  17. Welp, I guess we all got to sometimes make ridiculous threads then. I have rarely seen much on this team but will admit remembering during the Florida game where Dicky V or the other guy likened Florida's team to the '96 UK team in terms of talent.
  18. Read post before yours, I kinda went back on what I said. The team is good but rarely mentioned in the same breath as some of the ones you just mentioned. Where does this team belong among the best?
  19. I guess respect was the wrong term to use, Im meaning more the accolades or mention as one of the top championship teams. A better question would probably be where does this team belong amongst the top championship teams of all time? Or even top teams of all time cause I think we all can agree that sometimes great teams don't seem to win the Championship.
  20. I have always been suprised by how little respect this team seems to recieve when it comes to some of the best college teams all time. I know I'm a homer and have a bias but how many teams boasted the talent that this team had? You had Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, Walter McCarty, and Mark Pope all on NBA rosters for upwards of at least five to six years. Then you add guys like Ron Mercer and Derrick Anderson to the the mix and those were both guys who at any other college would have been the main go to guys. Throw in Wayne Turner and Anthony Epps both who were good college point guards who knew how to pass the ball and get to the basket. Then throw in Jeff Shephard who was ridiculous as part of UK's 1998 Championship team. Add Nazr Mohammed also in the NBA now. I think Cameron Mills was on the bench as a walk on for this team as well. Then you had Scott Padgett out mowing lawns all season while he got grades up so he could join UK in 96-97. I'd say this team top to bottom had few if any real holes and that seemed more evident as they went on to play in two more championships after this season. Still the '96 championship team never seems to be mentioned nationally as a great team in the respects of some of UCLA, UNC, IU, or even Duke's top teams. This team lost only two games all season and the two teams they lost to were fellow members of the Final Four that year. Even more impressive, Kentucky beat every team that the played that season seeing as they also beat UMASS and Miss St. that season. Does this team deserve to be among the best College Basketball has ever seen?
  21. As of now I'd say a lot of the weight of carrying the team will fall to Israel the running back for the Knights.
  22. Normally I'd agree with you bricklayer but with the bad publicity the Lady Knights get, playing starters late into the 4th in a 20+ blowout would be cause for many of the dissenters to start clamoring about how little class they show. I was shocked at this score but after reading a summary of the game, it just sounds like after the third quarter the Lady Knights coasted some and Paris kept coming. I'd say come Tournament time few teams will see the Lady Knights let up on big leads.
  23. This is funny. I'm not that anti-Scott Co. I actually like Lexington Catholic having a huge rival in the state, and now in the same region. However, it has always been a think of joke that playing in Georgetown is tough because you never know if you're gonna get any calls. Im not saying playing at Lexington Catholic is any better, im just asking how it is any different from being a visiting team on Scott Co.'s home court. As for Scott Co. always dominating and being #1, I don't recall Scott Co. winning many state championships in this decade. In fact I recall schools such as Lexington Catholic, Male, and Mason Co.(just to name a couple, I know there are more) being as dominant if not more at times. Scott Co. will always be a huge influence in Kentucky high school basketball but don't get too full of yourself. Other teams will always be right there with them. Still, im sad I won't be making it home to see this game, both teams play intense basketball and this one should be a good game. If the Knights play well it could even rival some of the great State Tourny meetings these two had.
