I've wondered the same thing about LCA's fine versus Lex Cath's. I also know that less money went to those involved w/ Lex Cath's violation. In fact most people involved w/ Lex Cath's issue were students already enrolled at the school fromm what I understood who needed aid for whatever reason, and I don't believe everyone was an athlete though I have no clue the official breakdown. I guess the only issue that might have made Lex Cath's issue worse was that the money provided was directly from the school and not from an outside organization. As for your first point, I understand this assumption and if accurate which as I've reread the article it very well may be then I'd say LCA's violation does provide its self to a lot of questions.

I am having some confusion on this part that you are mentioning here. Now I know LCA's tuition is approx $7,000 dollars a school year. From how I took the financial aid, it seemed like the $10,000 for instance provided for that one person was the only amount provided ever. Now times the tuition by four years that the student attends the school and suddenly the family is making no money on this. I guess my point is, are these athletes recieving $10,000 dollars a year? Cause then you and a bunch of other people in this thread are right in assuming the family is getting extra money here. However if the student is only recieving the one lump sum then aren't they only recieving one year's tuition plus a little less then half of another year's tuition? Then no money goes in the pocket like it seems to be claimed is what is happening by other people who have read this article.

It is close, Lex Cath was about $5,000 a year and LCA was definately more then that.

Kinda reported it yesterday on the football thread but I didn't have any solid proof besides one source in the know who had already been informed that LCA would be recieving punishment soon.

Thanks mhighfield, I meant to go back to Lex Cath and this game after being there this morning for the girls game but ended up falling asleep after the UK game. How did Modesto Christian look?

Lex Cath wins this one leading pretty much the whole way. I wondered if anybody heard the live stream, i was interested to hear what the announcers said on the game. Washington assessed two techs in the game and one was probably legit on a foul where their player said something that got her T'd up and then later an assistant coach on the bench got the T for words to the ref. Overall I do agree Lex Cath plays pretty physical ball and doesn't accumulate as many fouls as their opponents. A lot has to do with Novosel driving consistently to the basket and being difficult to block with her big frame. Anyways, I wondered what the announcers opinon was of the game. As for Lex Cath, they played okay, hit some big shots to kill a few runs by Washington. The Washington team was #6 in the country per USA Today's rankings and had a great guard in #4 who had to have dropped at least 30+ against the Lady Knights.

Tough loss and it sounds like some bad breaks for Highlands but like Malachicrunch said, HC's best player was out the whole game. You play w/ who ya got.

Jordan Smart has a sweet stroke when he is on. Him and Novosel played well tonight and Lex Cath's D gave Calvary fits.

This seems like a nice way for Henry Clay to come out after having lost Victor Moses for a month or more in their last game.

Montgomery Gentry for Eddie Montgomery, Rick Dees top 20 countdown and radio show. It's broadcast across the country though I never found it nearly as entertaining as Bob and Tom. Oh, and there is an article this morning in the Hearld Leader on Guy Morriss looking at Boyle Co. I don't have the link right now. Just the newspaper in front of me.

How about the 43rd? Lexington Catholic is 14-2 w/ a loss to PD for a 3-1 record in district, Paul Lawerence Dunbar is 18-1 and 3-0 in district not having played LCA yet, LCA is 9-2 w/ a 2-1 district record losing to Lex Cath. Then you have Lafayette who is 12-4 and 1-2 in district w/ losses to Dunbar and Lex Cath. Finally you have Tates Creek who is the weakest of this district at 5-8 w/ an 0-5 record in district. From just looking at this, three teams are legit State Championship contenders with two teams having won the state title the last two years. Dunbar might however be the best team of this group, having handled Lex Cath at Lex Cath early this season. Throw in a Lafayette team that isn't the best but can be hard to handle on a good night and I'd say this might be the toughest overall district. The fact that one of the top three teams will not be playing in the Region Tourny let alone the State is already tough. Sorry if this was a 10th Region only thread by the way. I read afterwards and couldn't tell if you only wanted 10th Region districts or all region's in general.

I got to see Montgomery Co. play for the first time this year last night and I found them a pretty impressive team. They don't make many mistakes and they make other teams pay for making turnovers. Lex Cath really should have never let this game get close but late in the 4th they got sloppy and Montgomery Co. did exactly what they needed to do to get back in this one. The Indians D was tough all night but they definately stepped it up to help w/ that 4th quarter charge. Lex Cath might lack the depth they once had but they still have about five or six girls that give good minutes and provide a stong supporting cast around Green and Novosel.

And Lex Cath lost Demetrius Green to academic ineligibility for bad decision-making in school and then lost William Graham to a knee injury in the region tournament's first round I think. The point wasn't what did or didn't happen to these teams to make them not win state. Its the fact that if you had predicted a state title for either team in January you'd have jumped the gun. A lot can happen (god willing it doesn't) in a few months time. I'm sure as the royals fans on here have shown, the team only cares about winning one game right now, and that is their next one (general term I have no clue who Mason Co. actually plays next im just saying every next game is the only one the team will worry about). Also, mortgagegeek, I agree w/ you on Warren Central, and perhaps this year a Male or somebody will make the same kind of late Feb, early march run.

Can they? Sure. Will they? Who knows, too much season left to play. I know lots of people have different ways of explaining the loss to Lex Cath, but the game did prove one thing and that is the fact that Mason Co. is beatable. I think we all can look back on Lofton's senior year as proof that anything is possible. Both Lex Cath and Mason went on to not win the state title that year despite being the best two teams in the state all year.

Agreed but I hardly would think Mason Co. thought they had nothing to prove against Lex Cath. Considering the good match ups of years past including last year I'd say Mason Co. would have more invested in proving that they can beat the top teams in Kentucky.

Sanford and Stewart are talented players who can get hot and score at will, problem is, that means they don't pass as much as they probably should. Novosel is a good player but he has to improve at getting a few 10-15ft jumpers to go or he will be stuck as an inside guy at the mercy of his ball handlers to get him the ball in areas where he can get a defender on his hip and show off his footwork in the paint.

Ha, no worries, I figured later after I had posted it that I'd probably get one person to misinterpret me. Remember Bluegrasspreps' golden rule (no not the one that everything bad that happens to UK basketball is Tubby Smith's fault, the other one) 'read the whole thread'.

Im in agreement with most people that Mason Co. blew this one in terms of just listening to it on the radio. However, I do find it slightly annoying that some people aren't giving Catholic the credit they deserve for hanging around in this one. I don't know what the halftime foul was like or if it was deserved (though from knowing Salsman I can assume the technical afterwards was deserved) but halftime very much could have only been a 7 point game meaning the Knights had wittled a 13 point 1st quarter deficit to 7 without their best overall court player even in the game during the 2nd quarter. The Knights consistently stayed in this game and were oportunistic in taking advantage of Mason Co.'s failure to close them out. As for travelling difficulties and legs. A spade is a spade and an excuse, while having some factual backing, is still an excuse. Lex Cath might not have played as many games in the same span but they didn't have it much easier. Complain about brackets all you want, yes June Buchanan proved much better then the tennessee team Lex Cath played and thanks to Paintsville's point guard being out, the semifinal game for Mason was more difficult but you still play the games and have to beat who ever you are presented with. As for the rematch, Lex Cath can't get comfortable with this win tonight, they got some late game breaks compliments of Mason Co. I don't expect the rematch to be easier. In fact, with the revenge factor I'd say Mason Co. is gonna come out firing on all cylinders looking to really prove a point. Mason still is the favorite and one heck of a team as they proved tonight by showing that Miller is not all that they have, but by the same token, Catholic proved they have heart and a lot of options as well. I really wanna make the rematch so I can hopefully catch another good game. And on a side note, Mason Co. fans, I liked the radio crew you all had working tonight. They did a pretty good job all game.

That Scott Co. team was good enough to have lost their best two players this year and still be one of the better teams in the state. I don't think if you took Miller and Setty/Middleton off of Mason or Stewart and Novosel/Smart off of Catholic that the same would be said of these two teams.

Sorry Kysportsfan, I was kinda ribbin you a bit there with my comment. This game definately was Mason's to lose late and they did just that missing a couple free throws and allowing Lex Cath to get the three point shot off. As for Lex Cath, they are a persistent team that will hurt you if you let up on them. Like I had hoped, this was another good one between these two. Can't wait for the rematch. I really think Mason still will be the favorite but the flipside of this is that with Lex Cath winning they now have proven to themselves that they can play with the top team.

Lexington Catholic did nothing to win this one.

Haha, don't worry spindoc. Early in this one it definately sounded like that. Lex Cath probably was hurt a bit by Stewart being out the entire second quarter and the last minute of the first but their ability to keep Mason Co. from hitting the three pointers in the second half has been what sealed the deal.

Missed free throws definately hurt but I wouldn't take away from what the Knights were able to do late in this game.
