I really like Kellen Smith. He reminds me of John Wall. If the team needs an assist, he'll get it done, if the team needs him to score, he can do that, too.

Vance Sullivan, a lefty from Walton-Verona and Jacob Zerhusen from St. Henry also pitched well for that team. Tyler Jones, from Rising Sun H.S. also pitched well. Lots of good arms.

I predict that the starting point guard for the Beechwood Frosh will look strikingly similar to the starting point guard for the Beechwood Varsity!

TOG, do you have any stats on the game? Also, what is the CovCath Frosh record? I remember seeing that they beat some pretty good teams last week.

Flesch, Robinson and Hodges all have had nice seasons. Since they are all juniors, Conner should be tough next year.

I thought that Vance Sullivan was awfully good. He was Walton's leading scorer with 9 points last night.

Shumate and Arnzen pitched for the Kentucky Colonels' 16 year old team last summer. The Colonels' 16 year old team had a very good season last summer (even by Colonels' standards), and had a very good pitching rotation (featuring several Northern Kentuckians who you should hear a lot from this high school baseball season). That pitching staff performed well for the Colonels in some very prestigous national tournaments. Arnzen will again play for them this year and Shumate will play for the Kentucky Colonels' 18 year old team. I know the Colonels are very high on both of them, particularily Shumate, who has really increased his velocity (although he was already throwing hard last high school season), and who has developed a very good curveball.

From reading the paper, it looked like this game was played at Calvary. A road win against a highly-regarded D-III rival with a very young team doesn't sound so bad to me. The fact that some folks are fretting over how close the score was shows you how far Beechwood basketball has come in the last three years. Expectations have certainly been raised. BTW, are the football banners still covering most of Beechwood's gym?

First, nice win for CovCath on the road against a pretty good Ryle team. I was wrrrrrrrrr.......(apologies to the Fonz) on this one. CovCath won this game in the paint (Thelen/Wellbrock 31, Stauffer/Coleman 24) - three point shooting was even. I saw that Wellbrock had 15 boards and Thelen had 9. What were Ryle bigs' numbers?

Why did Cottingham leave CovCath? Heard he was a great catcher with a great arm and with the loss of Maile, won't CovCath miss him? Is Dusty his dad? If so, the kid's got some great genes (although I'm not sure he played baseball).
