Just a heads up, NCC and BW were not even... NCC spotted Beechwood 21 points in the 1st half (may have even been the first quarter) virtue of turnovers, and NCC went on and dominated the rest of the game. This year was not your typical BW team at all.

I think it's a really hard year to compare scores, but I think the top 2/3 in 1A could compete, with Mayfield being the one who could legitimately challenge in the finals. Desales/Mayfield would have been a great game, although I would have favored Desales.

Highlands needs to make a statement hire here. It'll be that the dynasty will continue upon what Mueller built. Tremendous coach and had amazing success, but it's going to be really interesting to see how Highlands does post-Mueller. No doubt in my mind that Mueller and the coaching staff had a huge part in their success (mainly developing their players). Hopefully Highlands finds a suitable candidate. Such a statement hire could include that they're staying with the system Mueller built and just promote an assistant, contact some alums, maybe even just steal away a prominent HC. One thing's for certain though; the Highlands job has to be one of, if not the most attractive job(s) in the Greater Cincinnati Area, and in the state of Kentucky.

Especially this year. Meade County also lost to Male by 29, and lost to a Scott County team who beat Male by 7. Not the year to compare scores at all.

I'd say that it was one of the craziest years I can remember. A Meade County team that was off everyone's radars makes the finals and is a blown call away from beating a Scott County team that decisively beat Male, with Meade County losing to Male earlier that year by 29? Just insane. Throw that in with Collins surprising I think everyone on this site except UK#1Fan and you have all the makings for a crazy year.

You said Beechwood... No one's comparing NCC to Highlands. There's no comparison. Also, I love how you go all the way back 23 years just to fit your little argument. How about NCC's 4 state titles, in the last 8 years. Making the finals in all but two of those years. Since you like to make your own argument, please fill me in on how many finals appearances Beechwood has in the last 8 years. And if you want to say that, NCC played a SK team that beat Collins (pokes this thread and the score) and actually gave them somewhat of a decent game, but their offense couldn't get anything going. So poke at NCC's schedule and the teams they played all you want, but playing SK, Campbell County, Dixie, Cooper, Desales, Beechwood and Somerset is plenty good teams for a 2A school to face. So who are these "1A schools" NCC is playing? Only one I see is Beechwood.

I think they would have won the title in 2007 and 2008 had they been in 1A, unfortunately they weren't and ran into a crazy good Fort Campbell team that went on a 3 peat. 2010 would have been an awesome game, 2012 I would have given the edge to Mayfield however. 2011 may have been interesting; not really sure. NCC did lose to HC and BW, but no doubt they played their worst game against HC, and Hightchew got hurt in the 1st half of that BW game and sat out the rest of that game. Definitely an intriguing "what if" situation.

Definitely true on them effecting each other. Should make for awesome matchups in the future.

Can't argue with the numbers of Mayfield's recent success, however it is noticeable how the recent success is since 2008. The year after NCC went to 2A. I hope if Mayfield is bumped up that they're on the opposite side of the bracket. If Desales and Cal are gone they really need to be. No question though that without Mayfield or maybe even Beechwood in 1A it will be very lacking. Already looking forward to a potential NCC/Mayfield matchup.

The same one that hasn't won a state title since 2008? And consistently loses to Mayfield year-in and year-out? Ok. Also, Beechwood is 2-3 against NCC since that title, but please continue.

It has to be 2005-2008 for me. The 2011 team was very capable of winning the finals but fell short. But I kind of lean toward the 2005-2008 run just because the quality of teams during that run. The 2007 and 2008 teams fell just short to scary good Fort Campbell teams, with Rob Kues separating his shoulder in the final game in 2008. So I'd say the 2005-2008 run although the 2006 team was quite the roller coaster ride; but I think the 2010 team was possibly the best of any of the teams mentioned.

Also, a big one at least for me was NCC's run in 2006, and Danville's crazy collapse in that game. Don't think I'll ever forget that. For me though with the circumstances behind this game and everything else, this definitely deserves to be in the discussion with such mythical games, if not being THE mythical game. We'll see how we look at it a few years from now though, but definitely congrats to Collins. A very hard fought and deserved victory.

I agree. Collins' speed seems to be wearing them out. Doesn't happen to Highlands very often.

Not sure, but Collins certainly is impressive. Pretty much nobody on here gave them any credit, except UK#1fan, numerous Highlands fans even suggesting it's not worth the trip to watch the game. I'd say it possibly could. But this game's not over yet.

That was a big play for Collins. I really like the Collins defense. Holes appear in their secondary every now and then, but they get pressure and play pretty good defense.

Really caught Highlands sleeping. They were expecting the usual run Collins keeps running.

They have thus far, but their offense needs to help them out.

Not sure why Desales is running it... Why risk the disaster, just take the knee.
