I had this question asked of me yesterday, so why not bring it to the intelligent and well informed BGP members. Which NewCath four year run was the best overall run???? I ask this of mostly our NKY BGP'ers, since they saw the most of these teams, however I welcome opinions from the rest of you.

 

I picked 4 different four year periods to discuss this question. The '83-'86 run was one of the best defensive group of teams of any four year run. The '00-'03 stretch saw the emergence of the passing game, but an even better powerful running attack. The '05-'08 run produced 4 straight Finals appearances and had the best overall record, and had a strong "O" & "D", was it the best? Finally this latest 4 year run.....excellent running and passing attack, as well as, playing a very tough schedule. Which four year run was the best overall run????

1983 9-4 Lost State Semi-Finals (allowed 6.2 pts. per game)

1984 10-4 State Champs (7 shutouts, allowed 6.2 pts. per game)

1985 9-5 State Runner-Up ("D" led by a former 9 year NFL vet, Jeff Brady)

1986 10-5 State Runner-Up (1st Mr. Football in state history, Frank Jacobs)

38-16 overall record

2000 10-5 State Runner-Up (State record for most offensive plays 881)

2001 13-2 State Runner-Up (Tied the 2000 team with 881 offensive plays)

It has to be 2005-2008 for me. The 2011 team was very capable of winning the finals but fell short. But I kind of lean toward the 2005-2008 run just because the quality of teams during that run. The 2007 and 2008 teams fell just short to scary good Fort Campbell teams, with Rob Kues separating his shoulder in the final game in 2008. So I'd say the 2005-2008 run although the 2006 team was quite the roller coaster ride; but I think the 2010 team was possibly the best of any of the teams mentioned.

I know you are going by 4 year high school classes but for football considerations I like to think of it as 3 years (Soph JR SR) since Frosh rarely play on the Varsity and usually have their own teams.

I'd give the nod to the 80's era, but if this were a poll I'm sure I'd get way outvoted. Those teams in 84, 85, and 86 were very good.

I'd have to say 2005-2008, the tie breaker being # of wins compared to the 2010-2013 stretch

I vote 2005-2008. The 2008 is one of the best team in NCC history. They beat a Simon Kenton team (37-15) that went to the 6A Championship game. Beat a Beechwood team (31-20) that won the 1A State Championship. Lost to CovCath on a last second “fluke” catch and lost the state finial to a very special Fort Campbell team on a last minute trick play. They were 2 plays away from an undefeated championship season with tough competition.

Give me 83-86 w Eddie Eviston as coach.
