  1. In the late 90s Holmes was playing in a white helmet, red face mask, and this logo (a Gardner-Webb knockoff):
  2. Hearing Austin Woolf, son of Mike Woolf (CCH '88) is likely to be a starting O-lineman.
  3. Jarod Kees from the 1997 playoff game against Holmes the week before the Mud Bowl. One of the most physical Holmes teams I can remember. Cov Cath won 32-20 in Park Hills. It had been cold and rainy since the night before, and it started snowing in the middle of the first quarter. We lined up in the I on Holmes' 12 yard line, and Jarod Kees & Jeremy Madden did a really nice job selling the fake up the middle. Holmes' entire defense bit on it except for the DE and safety. Kevin Goetz was at right guard and pancaked the DE on a trap block and Kees had a wide open alley to sweep around the right. That's the moment when they snapped this picture. The safety got over to Jarod in time to dive at his ankles just outside the 1 yard line and Jarod fell into the endzone for the first touchdown of the game.
  4. I don't know that they ever had games at Paul Brown/Paycor Stadium, but they did originally hold them at Nippert Stadium, and they have also held games at UC's Sheakley Athletic Complex (the Bearcats' practice facility), Mount St. Joseph, and at Miami University's Yeager Stadium. I'm not sure whether not they increase ticket prices for the games held at regular high school stadiums, but if memory serves, at least in recent years I don't believe there is any increased price, so at least there's that. It may not be a money grab, so I don't really see the harm in it, but it definitely is a far cry from what the Crosstown Showdown was originally designed to be.
  5. Whoa...98NCCalum! It's been a minute. Good to see you around!
  6. Walton-Verona won 6 touchdowns to 2 during varsity play. Campbell County won 6 touchdowns to 3 with the JV teams in.

Dayton was part of a grid scrimmage at Carroll County along with Bracken County. Lloyd scrimmaged Holmes. Walton-Verona scrimmaged Campbell County. Newport scrimmaged Bourbon County. Ludlow scrimmaged Gallatin County.
  11. There are a lot of teams ranked behind CAL that I would pick over the Centurions of they played head-to-head.
  12. One of today's countdown pictures shows a Colonel batting down a pass from another Colonel 😉
