  3. That sounds like they should be a good match for Fort Campbell then....FC has similar student turnover on the base. The Falcons had some very successful years with 3-straight state championships back in the late 00s, but it's been tough sledding at Fort Campbell since.

  5. 2023 Kentucky High School Football vs. Everybody Else thread, there are (16) games featuring Kentucky teams versus out-of-state competitors this weekend. How do folks think we'll fare this weekend? 6. From the Bengals: "Since he joined the organization in 2017, Joe Mixon has been a valuable part of the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe has been a top level running back with multiple 1000-yard rushing seasons, and he has been an even better teammate enjoying real popularity among his peers. During the past seven years, Joe has been active with the community, and his constant smile and energy have made him a favorite among thousands of fans. The organization is pleased that this matter is now behind everyone, and we look forward to an exciting season with Joe being an important part of the football team.”
  7. From @UKato91 in the Cov Cath/North Laurel scrimmage thread: "I did stick around to watch the JV and Freshman games. Wow!! is all I have to say. The JV team looked really good and the Freshman team is unbelievable. That Freshman team is huge and will surprise a lot of people this year. I will be following them for sure."
  8. Not at all attempting to say that any of the rest of your statement is inaccurate, but I can verify that at least this much is true. For what it's worth, Emmett is son of Heath Queen, former Ohio State DT who I believe had his career ended by injuries.
  9. That's a tragedy....Ace Ventura Pet Detective is cinematic gold!
  10. Covington Catholic and the Ryle have faced off 19 times on the gridiron since Ryle first opened its doors in 1992, with 12 wins going to the Colonels and 7 going to the Raiders. Ryle's Coach Engler is 3-5 against Cov Cath, while Cov Cath's Coach Eviston has gone 5-2 against Ryle during his tenure as the Colonels' skipper, and he has an additional loss to the Raiders while he was head coach at New Cath. Friday will be the eighth time the two teams have faced off in their season opener. Ryle comes into this season after finishing things last year with a 6-6 record and a loss in the second round of the 6A playoffs to semifinalist Ballard. They had a not-so fantastic scrimmage performance on Aug 4, losing to Beechwood 3 touchdowns to 2 touchdowns in three quarters of varsity play in a 7-on-7 style scrimmage, but they will be looking for a much better offensive performance in the opener with 3-year starter Logan Verax getting the chance to show off his wheels from behind center. Verax led the Raiders in rushing last year with over 600 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Ryle's defense will be led by sophomore linebacker Jacob Savage, who paced the team in both tackles and interceptions last year as a freshman, and junior linebacker Beau Faul who was the team's #3 in tackles last year. Cov Cath starts off the season after posting a 9-3 record last year, including a 47-21 victory over Ryle in October. Their season also ended in the second round of the playoffs, with a 33-6 loss to eventual 5A champion Frederick Douglass. Covington Catholic had a solid scrimmage performance on Aug 11, traveling down to North Laurel and pitching a 28-0 shutout in three quarters of game-style scrimmage. The Colonels' offense is captained by 2-year starter Evan Pitzer at quarterback. Pitzer was hampered by injuries both in his sophomore and junior seasons, and will be looking to improve on last years 1,082 yards passing this year. Owen Leen will be their leading ball carrier, and UK commit Willie Rodriguez will be one of Pitzer's primary passing targets at TE. The Colonel offense also returns a talented receiving corps. On defense, Rodriguez will be a major player at linebacker, joined by last year's leading tackler, junior Tate Kruer at linebacker. Josh Flood and Ben Reeves both were among the top tacklers last year and will be on the defensive line for Cov Cath. So who wins this lid-lifter in Park Hills on Friday?
  11. A scrimmage is definitely not a game, but woof....that REALLY has to be disappointing for Danville.
  12. Any idea what the personnel for the offensive unit is looking like for the Colonels?
  13. That was a REALLY nice pass. The Douglass QB has thrown a couple of errant balls, but all in all he's had a really good night passing thus far.
  14. Nice pass by the FD quarterback...and nice coverage by the St. X defensive backs.
  15. I can't tell if this is an automated camera or if it's actually a cameraman operating it....but I know there have been complaints about the automated cameras provided by the KHSAA tracking on the wrong thing. I believe I was told that an automated camera for a soccer game a few years back tracked for the entirety of the game on the bald referee's head 😂
  16. That pass looked like it was intentionally thrown to the St. X defender. There wasn't anyone within 5 yards of him, and the ball went right to him. And it was one player away from being a pick-6.
