The Cooper Jags are playing the best they have played all year despite only going about 7 players in rotation. It will be a challenge for all the teams, especially in the bottom half of this bracket, but I am taking Cooper in a close game 5 points or less. This team has blocked out the “noise” and just went and played and played well. The 9th is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, to get out of so Cooper will be battle tested.

Cooper turns up the defensive intensity and creates a 21 point lead which was trimmed when the Jags pulled most of the starters. This was the 7th win in a row for Cooper. Andy Johnson was double-teamed, sometimes triple-teamed, the majority of the night and still poured in 32 points. Cooper goes right back to work tomorrow vs Jennings Co.(IN) tomorrow. HHS takes on Campbell Co. on Sunday at NKU.

The Cooper Lady Jags go scoreless in the 1st Qtr down 11-0 and fight back to force OT and squeak out a win on the road. Both teams played tough but the Lady Jags made a few more plays and shot well from the FT line in OT.

Another balanced night for the Camels Garyn Jackson. 15 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Young man is simply a consistent player.

Well I guess you gotta rank everybody somewhere lol. I hope that Cooper continues to just hang on to that Dark Horse label. Kind of funny that they’ve beaten both CovCath and Lloyd yet fall below CCH in every poll and Lloyd in a couple. Can’t wait for March!

I voted for Coach Sully simply because of what he’s had to endure on and off the court. Losing virtually his entire starting lineup with the exception of Andy Johnson and Jaidan Combs, key players transferring out and having to rebuild with virtually a whole new lesser experienced and very young team only to beat the top teams in NKy is impressive enough for me. If I had two votes, I’d have to give one to Coach Elsbernd. With the Bulldogs being down for so long, it truly is nice to see Holmes logging some wins and the team playing hard which I hope continues. I’d be perfectly fine with either of those two IMO.

That’s 2 games in a row that CCH has relinquished a double-digit lead, well up by 9 in this game. It was referred to CCH-Cooper thread that the CCH offense needed to be improved. I would argue that 71 points should be enough to win a game and offense isn’t the issue.

Bottom line is Cooper played lockdown team defense to get them back into game as they were clearly outplayed in the 1st qtr. CCH had a 14 point lead at one point. That has little to do with offense and more about defense, one team upping theirs and the other letting their guard down. Getting leads is hard against the upper echelon of the 9th, teams have to take advantage of that and put opponents away.

Well said. The first half was combined with excellent jump shots “in the paint” or driving past Cooper defenders “in the paint”. The Cooper was able to settle and play better defense “without” fouling. In all 4 qtrs, CCH was the first to reach 5 fouls with meant Cooper went to the line several times. In the 4th qtr, they hit the 5 foul mark with just under 4 mins to go so every foul from then on resulted in FTs. Cooper helped out with missed FTs, turnovers and inexplicable fouling at the end of the game to give CCH a chance stay in it. They will need to get better in those areas. Roman Combs played well and continues to be a solid BIG inside and his confidence continues to grow offensive As I said previously, these are the two best teams in the region and won’t be surprised if these are the two standing on the floor of the regional final. Both these teams style of play warrants it.

Heck of a ballgame. Cooper couldn’t guard a soul in the first qtr and found themselves down by as many as 14 I believe but pulled it back together like most Coach Sullivan team and got back in by sitting down and guarding on the defensive end. A bunch of missed FTs and poor decisions on the defensive end in OT kept the game closer than it should have been. Definitely the 2 top teams in the region and I will not be surprised if this is the regional final which could go either way. CCH’s guard play with Harney and McGuiness is unmatched with their quickness and will carry them the entire season.

Love all the speculation. 1. The transfer portal hurts ALL high school kids REGARDLESS of position. Unless you are a 100% solid 4-5 star, it is a waiting game as colleges can now sit back and get IMMEDIATE help vs having to offer now and develop HS kids. 2. I am a firm believer Cam will have a phenomenal June camp season and pick up even more high level schools this summer. He’s done everything he's needed to do and it will come, I believe that. 3. While it will be hard to replace Austin Alexander and Isaiah Johnson, the Jags return more than enough to compete. The entire OL, RB, 1 Wr and QB all return on offense and 6 starters return on defense which includes one the best safeties in the state and a lockdown cornerback, so for those thinking the cupboard is empty they will be in for a surprise. Did they lose a lot especially at the Wr skill position, yes. Do they return enough to get right back to Lexington, yes they can. Lots of work to be done in the offseason but they will compete without doubt.

Cracks me up how these rumors get started ?. Cam is 100% locked in at finishing his senior season where he's started as a freshman and will own nearly every record in NKY and possibly many statewide. It does make for speculative message board conversation though. Nothing to see over here on Longbranch but the core of returners all going back to work in an attempt to get back to Kroger Field and try to win the schools first major state championship.

One of the strongest defensive showings in the 2nd half for Cooper. The halftime speech from Sully had to have been good after blowing a 13 point first half lead allowing Ryle to cut it to 2 points. The bench also got real short in the 2nd half for Cooper as well which proved to be a major difference in expanding the lead. Huge effort from sophomore Roman Combs who was huge on the boards and was able to get his shot off in the post. Anxious to see this big guy used more as he continues to develop as it could be the missing piece to a good run in March.

Nothing against Coach Walker but it's a culture thing at Cooper top to bottom which is why he has been so selective in the coaches that have been on staff since he was named the one and only coach back in 2008.

This was a huge win for the “young” Cooper Jags. By young I am referring to players who either started or played significant minutes from last season (only 2 regular starters returning and 1 major off the bench/part-time starter). Having played one of the toughest schedules to date and having just 4 losses by a total of 19 points has exceeded my expectations. This week alone with beating Lloyd and taking one a major district foe in Ryle tomorrow night will be huge in the 33rd. With the job Coach Sullivan has done with what the Jags lost to either graduation or major players transferring cannot be overstated. It’s still early but if the younger “inexperienced” players continue to develop and the team continues to grow, I look for the Jags to be right there in the mix come March timing. Sully squeezes everything he can regardless of who’s on his bench with the foundation of, play defense or you don’t play. I think is great to see 3 former Cooper Alum on Sully’s staff who are helping to instill the expectation of what they had to go through. Good luck Jags!

Can’t speak for the other school but it is definitely the right decision for Holmes! With the numbers they have coming out for football it has the makings of a catastrophic situation. I thought I remembered Grant Co. doing this some years ago until they got things back stabilized. I could be wrong but I thought they did the same.

Congratulations to Garyn Jackson who logged his 500th career assist! He’s a true leader and the best PG in NKY and top 5 in the state IMO.

That was a HUGE miss by the officials! It’s not totally on the scoreboard operator, there were 3 officials there whose job it is, is to check the scoring table for subs on FTs. The sub was clearly there. If Cooper had lost this game by 3 or less I would have hate to see Sully erupt are that. Good win for the Jags and Johnson is an absolute stud!

My frame of reference was from a traditional sense which Trinty has been a strong team, in the past. Nonetheless, the Jags need this win for the weekend and they should have won the prior two games. Best of luck to T getting things turned around.

HUGE win for the Jags especially being shorthanded today. Cooper could easily been 0-3 for the weekend and they could have very well have been 3-0 as they certainly had their opportunities. Great response by this young team by beating one of the top teams in the state. Cooper will continue to get better and by mid January they should be hitting their stride.
