Tyler Maynard's shot against Mason County in the first round of state last year from the first "R" in Rupp Arena to either tie, or put them (EC) in the lead, that was a great play, the entire crowd that was neutral had gotten behind the Lions and Rupp exploded as if Meeks had hit a three against Florida or Tennessee. Also, Arrez Henderson's tip dunk in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 6 (I think) in the State title last year were two of the better plays of last year's tournament.

The first round game I am looking most forward to is Corbin vs. Eastern at 8 on Wednesday, the two teams' combined record is 59-5, with Eastern being 30-2 and Corbin being 29-3. Eastern's only losses are to J-Town, in which they lost both regular season matchups. Corbin's only losses are to Knott Central, Scott and South Laurel. IMO, whoever wins this game has the best chance to win state, as the top of the bracket is substantially weaker than the bottom and the whomever comes out of the top half will not be as drained as the team that makes it out of the Lower Bracket, whether that be Elliott, Holmes, Mason, Shelby Valley, Christian County, Anderson County, Catholic, or Bowling Green

I agree completely, Holmes is longer than any team in the state and that length frustrates a shooter to no end.

I don't see Catholic beating Holmes, Holmes plays the best defense out of any team in the Sweet 16 and like the old addage goes: Offense Wins Crowds, Defense Wins................

Having watched both teams a few times this season, I'll say this: Holmes is the best defensive team in the state and Elliott is one of the better offensive team. Something I want to point out to those people who think Holmes can't score: they've scored 70 or more on some of the better teams in the state. Bryan Station, Seneca and Scott County-a team many thought was the best in the state even after Holmes beat them. Elliott, on the other hand, loves to run. They love to force turnovers and score in transition off of those turnovers. I will not go into who has played the tougher schedule, but the play of the 16th seriously inflates some of Elliott's offensive #'s IMO. Not saying Elliott is no good, I'm out to get them, doubting them, hating on them, questioning how good the boys are etc. I am just saying I don't see them scoring the big amount of points against Holmes that they do against a weak 16th region. Holmes is clearly one of the best defensive teams in the state and the length of Johnson, Johnson and Pittman will bother the Lions' perimeter shooting and I look for a game similair to the their performance against Shelby Valley should they meet in the state tournament.

I haven't seen all 16 teams play this season but out of the 6 I have seen here's how I would rank em: Holmes Shelby Valley Elliott Catholic Mason Anderson

Congrats to the Bulldogs, an amazing hard fought defensive game! I was there to see it first hand and it was the most exciting game I've seen that combined for just 61 points.

HUGE win by Catholic tonight, but I'd say if Holmes doesn't go down, they're the favorite!!

I have tickets for the game Saturday April, 11th. My friend mentioned that there is a dunk and 3 point contest that takes place sometime that weekend. Does anyone know if it happens before the game? Or if it is the Friday before? Thanks BigSpikes

I wouldn't go that far, they could win without Timmy and maybe one of the Faulkners, but all three and I'm not so sure. It's not like Chris Knipp will have 26 every night. With that being said, Ashland hasn't been themselves in a few years, I'll take Elliott by 19

Just curious, but I would like to see the total # of threads started about, or that mention Elliott County on this board over the last three seasons. A lot of things about EC are left open for debate, but one thing that isn't: Elliott County has the most vocal fans in the State of Kentucky.

Congratulations to Jamel. One of the unsung heroes on the best team in the state. I have only gotten to watch them twice this season and he was the best three point shooters I've seen in a while.

I left at the end of the third quarter and didn't see him in much pain. He was just sitting at the end of the bench with his foot up. I hope he doesn't sustain a long term injury that effects the rest of the season, but Coach Mays should have pulled his started at halftime IMO. Stupid decision.

Holmes is a pretty good defensive basketball team. If you win by 1 or 100, it does not matter. They've proven themselves as one of the two or three best teams in the state and can win a game against anyone

Zack Metz from Bath Co., he can light it up any day of the week.

George Rogers Clark is looking to be firing on all cylinders right now, they are worlds better now it seems than when I saw them scrimmage Elliott County over the Thanksgiving weekend. I think they win the tenth, and could really make a run at the State title this year ala Holmes last season.

Don't know, but if it is anything like powerhouses such as Wolfe County, Betsy Layne, and the Prestigious Raceland Derby Classic; then Coach Hicks needs to schedule stronger as well.

Should be the best Regional Tournament this season IMO! Great matchups across the board. I'll take Eastern to cut the nets down and head to Lexington to represent the 7th.

I agree, although I think West can win, it will be a close game. They haven't really beaten any of the quality teams on their schedule-Elliott, Ryle. If Jeremy wants to be considered a legitimate player in the 16th region to come, get out of the Raceland Derby Classic, and playing Wolfe and Betsy Layne and play some teams that will get you ready for postseason action.
