Very intriguing game with Eastern and Manual

Top bracket has more balance top to bottom; Wouldn't wanna be in the way of J-town or Ballard in the bottom.

Should be the best Regional Tournament this season IMO! Great matchups across the board. I'll take Eastern to cut the nets down and head to Lexington to represent the 7th.

The semi final winners play in the finals the next day(Mon-Tues) next week.Team depth and conditioning will definitely come into play.

This looks to be a great tournament.

Most interesting 1st round game will be Eastern-Manual.

Can a healthy Jenkins get Manual past Eastern?

I predict semis:

Trinity-Eastern

Ballard-Jtown

Final

Eastern-Ballard

Ballard wins!

Atherton. Who has the ability to put up a ton of points. They are a team that the game is never over: if they are down 20, they can get hot and come back; if they are up 20, they are going to keep running and shooting 3s and potentially let someone back in the game. They have a very talented guard in Troy Weatherford. Still, it would take a very special effort for them to defeat Ballard.

In the "What were they thinking category", Atherton's student body (which was over 20 people for the first time I ever remember seeing them) started chanting "Overrated" at Eric Mosely from Moore in the District Final. Mosely was about halfway to a triple double at the time and ended up with 48 points and 11 rebounds. I'm not sure how many assists and steals he ended up with, but it had to be at least 6 of each.

I don't care how much you hype Atherton, it still Atherton and Moore gave up nearly 90 points to them. Mosely is a 5'10 shooting guard in the 7th region that will dribble up and shoot without making the first pass every time down if he chooses. Defense is optional.

Since I obviously hyped Atherton and picked them to win???

Atherton averaged 77 points a game which, best I can figure, was the most in the region. But they only finished 13-12. So yes, defense is optional for them. Moore and Atherton both need a high scoring game in order to have a chance. Atherton does not have much of one.

Moore is talented enough that they could scare some teams----NOT to win the region. I've seen Mosely 4 times. The first was in the LIT where he appeared to have no desire to play until the final 4 minutes. He dominated those 4 minutes, but it was too late. The next two times, Moore won handily. He had good numbers, but was very unselfish. In the district final, Moore needed a big game as their next two leading scorers were in foul trouble. They got it from Mosely.

You summed it up well, "no desire." Five schools in four years. Trinity has height and size and should be a good test for Moore. And I would assume Atherton is a good test for Ballard first round since they average 77 points per game.

It should be a great event.

Male - J-town in the first round could prove to be quite a game.

THURSDAY, MARCH 5

3:30 p.m. - Moore (23-7) vs. Trinity (21-7)

5 p.m. - Manual (15-12) vs. Eastern (27-2)

6:30 p.m. - Ballard (24-6) vs. Atherton (13-12)

8 p.m. - J'town (25-4) vs. Male (16-11)

Trinity losses: (7)

District champs:J-town twice, Ballard twice & Clark County,

District runner-up:Eastern

and the loss at Waggener.

The Shamrocks wins: (21)

District champs: Clay County, Manual, Boone County, Newport Central Catholic, & McCreary Central.

District runner-ups: Southern, Nelson County, Shelby County, & Male.

15 of 28 games Trinity played were against teams that have advanced to the final 64. If the Shamrocks can handle Moore, and Manual takes out Eastern, then Trinity could end up in the 7th Region Championship game.

I understand that is a lot of "ifs". Six months until the regular season football kickoff!
