  1. Whoa! Coingrats to the Lions. The two previous seasons I thought the Lions had a good game plan, just not enough talent to pull it off. It worked out in their favor this time. Good luck the rest of the season.
  2. Sure seems that way. Congrats to the Polar Bears. I'm happy to see those kids reaping some rewards for their hard work.
  3. Congrats, Royals. A big win.
  4. Oh, and mcmama is right. Highlands' fans are a class act. I worked the concession stand. All were friendly, polite and patient, even the kids. And, they drank lots of hot chocolate.
  5. Agreed. My philosophy is starters should get to play half the game, they deserve it, and you have to let them play. You have to let all the players play. I agree with Bobby Bowden: "Holtz immediately recounted the 1970 meeting between his first-year William & Mary team and Bowden's West Virginia squad. "Unfortunately, we had more Marys than Williams," cracked Holtz, whose squad absorbed a 43-7 loss. "When we met at midfield, I said, 'You're my friend, how could you run the score up?' Bobby looked at me and said, 'If you want to hold the score down, that's your obligation. If you want to make it a competitive game, coach harder, recruit better, but don't count on me.' ..." It's the other teams job to keep you from scoring. (In the 8th grade my son's basketball team beat another 8th grade team 98-0. The subs played more than the starters, but you got to let them play.)
  6. Those Highlands fans sure drink a lot of hot chocolate. We could have sold 50 gallons if we had it.
  7. Except that it's closer to Nashville, TN than to Louisville, Lexington, Northern Kentucky, Paducah, etc, etc, etc. Plus, Bowling Green ain't that great. Really.
  8. That's what my daughter, who is on the team, believes.
  9. They just beat Harrison County 21-2, but that won't help them against Highlands.
  10. What do you want to know? Highlands by as much as they want.
  11. I don't go quite that far back, just back to the Johnny Majors era, ...when he played. The Royals played hard. Coach B always has his players in top physical condition. I think it showed last night. It was a mini Royals/GTown gathering for us last night. It was good to see you and your family too.
  12. BTW - Maryville is a 6A powerhouse. If I remember correctly, 7 state championships in the last 10 years. During one stretch they went over 4 years undefeated, 74 straight wins I believe (lost in the championship game that year). One class graduated without ever having lost.
  13. The quarterback, Patton Robinette, for the Maryville team is the grandson of my high school basketball coach. The kid is super smart too. 4.5 GPA and a perfect 36 on the ACT. He's already committed to North Carolina. Some of the older UK basketball fans might remember my old coach, Pat Robinette. He played for Tennessee, class of 1965, and beat UK 4 times. A good part of athleticism is genetic. http://www.utsports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081111aaa.html
  14. Myself and others have explained it before. Lost too much talent. 4 of 5 offensive linemen gone, qb gone, fullback gone, middle linebacker gone, several other starters gone. Their offensive line was very good the last two years. Without a good line, everyone else is cannon fodder.
  15. Neither one are participating in pre-season conditioning. None of the players expect either to come back.
  16. Katelyn Smith transferred somewhere else. (I forget, somewhere near Somerset.) Alicia Moore and Bailey Menke quit. All are seniors and starters last year. Smith was the leading scorer. Point guard McKenzie Butler (sophomore) and guard Courtney Moran (senior) are the returning starters. Moran will be the only senior on the team. The have a lot of girls in the 5' 9" range but no one taller.
  17. I've been thinking the same thing, but was afraid to say it out loud. I still think they have a shot at the distric title.
  18. Work, work, work. They'll be young, but energetic. Coach Akin seems to have them fired up.
  19. I'll have to go with Montgomery County. They played Mason really tough last year when Mason was loaded.
  20. Are there teams that 10-0 and 9-1 regulars seasons aren't impressive? I felt Mason was over ranked much of the time myself, but other than Belfry, Sheldon Clark, and Russell (I think they were ranked when Mason beat them at least one of the past 3 years), I've never seen other top ten teams play. I have seen 2A Alcoa (TN) play, and I doubt any 3A school in Kentucky could beat them. BTW - last year's seniors were members for the first Mason Co. team to beat Russell at Russell (they did it twice), and beat Russell two consecutive years.
  21. The last two seasons are pretty impressive but they lost their quarterback last game of the season two years ago, and in the second game of the play offs last year. Your words are unfair and inaccurate. This year, I, myself, have made the argument they are ranked too high. Offensive line except one guard, gone. Quarterback and top receiver, gone. Middle linebacker, who led the team in tackles per game, gone. Fullback, who led the team in yards per carry, gone. And, at virtually every position, the new player person stepping in isn't quite as good as the one who left. It'll be a tough year for Mason County, but they still have a shot at winning their district.
  22. Mason is not a top 10 3A team. Too many people seem to think a couple of good players can carry a team. That works for basketball but not football. Mason has a tremendous challenge in front of them.
