  1. the answer is no. Also no 8th graders on the Freshman team. One Freshman lineman playing up for JV due to injuries on the varsity
  2. ok, so you want to 2 platoon, but don't really have 22 quality players yet. Where to you hide them while they are learning and gathering experience? Offense ?, Defense ?, Kicking Game?
  3. What's the word on the Ryle Freshman Football Team now 3-0
  4. The point still becomes, if you have to hide a player that is just not quite good enough, where do you hide him: offense or defense?
  5. When you make the decision to got to two platoon football, where do you position your best players, offense or defense? What if you do not have 22 quality athletes? Where do you play the less talented players?
  6. Ryle has 40 Sophomores listed on their roster from a team that went 8-2 last year
  7. Varsity QB Jr. as opposed to the two Sophomores who had been working at QB 's Both of the varsity QB's are Juniors. Does that answer the question ????
  8. Ryle moved 40 Freshmen to the Varsity this year. Some Sophomores are playing regularly on Varsity (4?) Still leaves a bunch of talented Sophomores getting experience Do understand that the back up QB played in the JV game
  9. waiting in the wings: Freshman QB Aaron O'Hara a very talented Freshman at Ryle, has very good mobility and a very good arm. lots of potential
  10. For the record, you may want to pay close attention to Tanner Morgan at Ryle. Tanner was the QB on the Frosh team last year as an 8th grader, He is an excellent passer, can read defenses, has a great work ethic. A definite up and commer He is currently working with Mike Parker and is doing a training film for Trent Dilfer's organization out West
  11. Part of developing a freshman team is finding potentially good players, finding what they like to do and then plugging them into the proper spots. Winning may not be the top focal point, however, as long as they keep score players, coaches, parents and fans want to have success Teaching young players love for the game, working together to achieve a common goal, being successful by working as part of a team. Those are attributes we want to install in our young people. Working to be a little better each day seems to take care of all the other distractions.
  12. on the first day of Spring Practice, Ryle had 70 + dressed. that does not count baseball players
  13. Rick Sang runs the Ray Guy Camp at EKU in early summer outstanding and cost effective
  14. It is a simple term my friend. "Boundaries" Here in NKY we are bound by geography. Ryle and Boone County can only accept students that live within their geographical district. Dixie, Simon Kenton are allowed to accept tuition paying students and do have open enrollment. With the exception of Boone County employees, you must live in the geographical boundaries of your school district. This is due to the growth of Boone county schools, the 3rd largest district in Ky after Jefferson county and Fayette county. Highlands, Newport Catholic, Beechwood Independent, Covington Catholic do not have boundaries and are smaller schools
  15. Best game in NKY this past season ? How about Ryle/Highlands at the end of the regular season. Why? well for starters, how about it being so rare that a NKY team is able to come away victorious against the most storied high school football program in the commonwealth. A well played hard fought game. Excellent coaching on both sides and tough, gritty, disciplined football. A pleaseure to watch. The down side for the Raiders was that after that game, that teams around the state saw that game on TV, Ryle could not fill out their schedule without going to the likes of Colerain, and Columbus DeSales
  16. Will the Boone County Pee Wee League still allow players from outside Boone county to participate ? Would this not have a negative impact on playing time for kids going to Boone County schools if their time was limited by players who would then go to schools outside Boone County ?
  17. I'll bet that they never lost a 4.5 40 due to tuition
  18. I was on the sidelines for the Trinity game and I will tell you that some of the stuff that came out of the Trinity players mouths should land them in the confessional. The NFL and others have made trash talking a national pastime. Should it be part of the game ? NO but the kids are only a reflection of what they learn from their parents and see on TV. My wife told me after the game, that the Trinity fans (parents) are very colorful in what they say during a game. In reference to Travis Elliott, he is no better or worse than any of the others. He is a competitor in the highest degree and works endlessly to improve his skills. He never takes a play off, whether it is in practice or games. He did run a 4.59 at the UC camp last summer. Thats why they are after him.
  19. Ryle is making steps in the right direction by starting a 7th and 8th grade team and following up next year with a 5th and 6th grade team. the kids on those teams will go to Gray and feed Ryle. The BCPWFL would not designate senior teams for the four high schools as feeder teams, so we had to start our own programs.
  20. At Ryle, we play with the kids who actually live in the district. The only exception, is if a parent is an employee of the Boone County School district. If that is the case, the parent may send their child to any district school and must provide transportation. Moving into the district has become a lot tougher with the economy in the mess that it is in. If I live in the Ryle district, I can send my student to any school in NKY, except Boone County or Conner or Cooper. All other districts accept tuition students. Boone County Schools cannot accept tuition students because all schools are operating at capacity. While other districts can use funds to improve facilities, Boone County is constantly in the new building mode. Why? Taxes! Boone County has the lowest tax rate in NKY. Raise taxes? Does anyone think that is a good idea in this economy? No! Thus the delimma. How much better do the schools in Boone County become in sports if there are only two high schools instead of four? Two really large High schools change the face of football in this county.
  21. Sseveral years ago when Gerry Dinardo was the off. coord. for Bill McCartney at Colorado, The Buffalos ran the Triple out of Power I. They could line up and run a traditional Power I, they could run Belly, and then they could run the Triple. Very effective, and they also had a very diverse play action passing game. I was coaching at Boone County at the time and spent a lot of time with Coach DiNardo and we installed it very effectively. We actually ran the option at BCHS when Mike Lay was QB, Brandon Black was TB and Bryson Warner was at LB/FB. That team went 10-2 and lost to Clark County in the Playoffs. CC went on to become State Champs that year.
  22. No Northern kentucky team is going to beat or compete with Trinity or St. X until they get the same type of players. The Big 2 have the cream of the crop in Jefferson County and surrounding counties and Southern Indiana. No other 6A team can compete with that until they can gather those types of Athletes. All the Boone County schools have restrictions on who can attend so open enrollment is not going to be a factor. Trinity and St. X entertain 100's of junior high players at their home games each week. NKY is too diverse and has too many schools. Even a marqee program like Ft. Thomas Highlands cannot compete with Trinity and St. X. And that is the cold hard truth.
  23. If anyone could lure Lynn back into coaching it could be Mike Woolf. Lynn would have the opportunity to mentor one of his former great players He would have the enjoyment of being back in coaching but not the pressure and he would be passing on his extensive knowledge of the game to one of his own.
  24. If Mike Woolf ever wants to be the Head Coach at his Alma Mater, The best time for him is now. The stage is set for him to return and bring his friend Nate Roeding with him. He also has the base of Cov Cath alumni . If the story that all coaches never do it for the money is true, then that is not the deciding factor. Mikes wife is in the public system and the State retirement program. There are alumni that can help him supplement the pay if thats needed. Cov Cath needs the guy that has the passion and the knowledge and the support to return the Colonels. Only Mike Woolf knows if he is that guy. If he is, he should go for it.
