  1. Ryle 7 On 7, Plus Linemen Challenge Friday And Saturday At last count there were 17 schools from KY and Ohio attending.
  2. I had the opportunity to watch Tanner Morgan earlier this summer at the Aerial Assault QB camp at Michigan. Tanner was placed in Pod 2 of about 14 pods. Coach Jim Harbaugh was in charge of Tanners group. After 9 hours of various types of testing and coaching by Coach Harbaugh and several other Pro and former Pro QB's if was obvious that Tanner has the skills and technique necessary to be a D1 QB at the highest level. He has the chance to achieve at a very high level. Wake Forest and Louisville will not be the only majors looking at him.
  3. The first goal for the Raiders is to become the best team in Boone County, then they can move on to the next challenge which is to be the best team in their district. If they accomplish that task they can concentrate on being the best team in their region, etc. etc. etc. and so it goes. The raiders are blessed with a lot of talent for the next few years. If they have grown as players and athletes they will be very good. It is safe to say that their athletic ability has not diminished since they were Freshmen. How much they have grown will be determined on the field. They have three excellent classes and the Ryle fans are excited to begin the season.
  4. What school sidelinedoc. I think I really like what you have to say about this.
  5. Just wondering I have coached at Lloyd, Mt. Healthy, Washington Court House Miami Trace, Covington Catholic, Boone County, Bellevue, Holmes, Boone County again, and Ryle in 06, 07, and again in 09 and 10. At every school and in every program either the coaches taped or the trainer taped and in many cases both the coaches and trainer taped. Heck At Mt. Healthy we had two principals who were former college players who would also come in and tape on game night. I have just noticed that lately trainers seem reluctant to tape until after the injury where the prevailing thinking seems to not favor preventative taping. Just wondered what other programs were doing these days and wondering if the decision not to tape was based on cost. In the 60's 70's 80's 90's and until the past few years everybody taped. When did it change, and why did it change? When we had our championship teams at Bellevue we went through 40 cases of tape a year at a class A school and nobody gave it a second thought.
  6. In formal survey: How many schools are taping their athletes to prevent injury
  7. Informal survey: How many schools tape their athletes for practice and games? Are there any schools that do not tape until after the athlete is injured?
  8. No drama, No plots maybe we all need to spend more time worrying about what's happening in our country, our economy, our politicians.
  9. As my good friend and former boss Randy Cooper used to say, "I have information that I am not able to share with you" AND, I would never post it online. Rest assured that Matt Turner would have rather not made the moves he has had to make. Sometimes leadership requires making tough and sometimes unpopular decisions. Only time will tell As a Ryle fan and supporter, lets hope for the best.
  10. What a great idea. Sure hope some of the public schools pick up on this. It is a good thing. There are Juniors and Seniors that use the dead period to visit colleges The fact is that most of our players will not be recruited for football but several will continue to higher education on academic aid
  11. Triple Crown Power Rangers ???? Union Mafia ???? DO these characters have real names I have lived in Union since 1977 What are you all talking about ?
  12. just a reminder that all the evidence in education shows that the normal attention span in school is approx. 54 minutes that's why class are 55 to 60 minutes in duration. This will fluctuate by the individual. Nothing worse than a bunch of kids standing around for long periods of time. shorter practices force the coaches to be concise and use their time wisely.
  13. What is the proper length of football practice in High School? Interested in the thoughts of the readers.
  14. We found out this morning that Ted Morgan, the father of Hazard QB Tanner Morgan was involved in a very bad auto accident last night. He has a fractured neck and was air cared to Kingsport, Tenn. Please remember him in your prayers
  15. Hopefully I can clear the air. When I posted this morning, I was under the impression that Coach Warner and Coach Wirth had spoken and agreed that players from both teams that wanted to would be moving up to next level on their respective teams. I was miss informed. I was told this evening that the game will be played at Ryle on Thursday at 7 PM.
  16. Since Old raider is the Head Coach of the Ryle Freshman team, he will tell you that several Freshman football players will be moving to the varsity today. Almost all starters will be moving to the JV team for Saturdays game and will continue to practice for the playoffs. We also have several moving to Basketball and Wrestling. We are very proud of our players effort this season. We felt that they had nothing more to prove. They have defeated every team on their schedule. On a side note: Here at Ryle we have a very strong academic policy, students must maintain a 78% average in classes on a week to week basis to be eligible. As one would guess that is much higher than the state requirements. we only mention that to emphasize that the kids have a lot of school work to do in addition to their pursuits athletically. We hope this clears any confusion.
  17. Illogical response. Because times change? is not a valid answer to the question of whether a team that prepared at a high level mentally, to be successful in a big game, is now required to do it again against a team they already defeated, to try to prove a point (to whom) that they already proved ?
  18. I have been told by a former Cov. Cath. coach who was there at the time that I believe that in 2002 and again in 2003, Covington Catholic had undefeated Freshman Football teams and that there was NO championship game since they had already defeated all of the teams. To my knowledge this is the case again. Isn't 9 games enough ?
  19. The Freshman raiders have another strong test this week with Cross County Rival Conner They must guard against the emotional let down from last week. No team is unbeatable. In football, everybody gets their shot. The freshman Raiders do not need to prove anything to anyone but themselves.
  20. Not Logical if the two top teams have already played. Do not mean this to be "snarkey" but if you want Ryle to play a championship game, find an opponent that they have not already defeated. I believe that it has worked that way in the past.
  21. Most Freshman players are also multi-sport athletes. They have been working in many cases since last Spring. A nine game schedule for their age group is very sufficient. In the case of Ryle and I'll bet Cov. Cath. several of these young athletes will transition right into Basketball or Wrestling at the end of October for another three months of activity, and then many will transition into Track or Baseball in March. That combined with keeping up their academics ( which is very demanding at both schools) makes for a very full year. Don't you agree ? The last thing the ADULTS need to do is burn them out. Those who have played know that Football at any level is very demanding. A Championship game at that level may only be necessary if the two teams did not meet during the regular season (i.e. Beechwood/Ryle last year) The old guy equates High School to the Super Bowl, World Series, etc. Let's face it that is only done to produce more revenue. The almighty $ should not govern the amount of playing time. State Championships in High School ? sure, but 15 to 16 games in football? 30 to 40 games in Basketball? 40-50 games in Baseball. How much is too much?
  22. why would they play again ? If Ryle is able to defeat Conner next week they would finish at 9-0 I see no need for a rematch. Last year Ryle and Beechwood played for a championship because they had not met during the regular season. If Beech wood had met Ryle and defeated them last year in regular season there would have been no need for a championship game. Just trying to reason this out.
