I may be wrong and I don't have a dog in this fight but it seems to me that there was an awful lot of smack talk in the prediction thread for this game and it's awful funny there are few posts by the Tiger following on BGP... It seems to me now that everyone that has commented on Bellevue and Dayton merging thinks that it would be good for them. But a lot of people also think that something like that is way far off... Why? Is it all tradition?

Well, if those schools combined Newport would be one of the smaller schools in NKy, along with Ludlow.

I see what you are saying but if those three combined together you have to think about if Newport would want to stick around as the "little guy."

It's been talked about forever. I tend to say it'll never happen, but with enrollment on a consistant decline.... Ya never know... I agree that that lineup would be formidable. A lot of toughness with a lot of heart and a lot of talent on the field all together. A Sherlock handing off to a Buckler/Barret combo and having the Richardson kid get some goal line carries and playing a MLB spot. A lot of kids wouldn't have to go both ways.... It would be a good team...

Sherlock is a very good QB. He improvises to provide a ton of Dayton's offense. The paddle is green on one side and gold on the other. Notice no one has paid any attention to this comment. The guy is a tough kid. Played a good game. :ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper: I love when I see or hear people say things like this. So much we hear both sides doing talking defending themselves and why they are better etc. But it is great to hear when someone defends the rivalry. The last line is the truth. Unless you have been in the enviroment, you can't fully understand. I'm sure that Dayton and Bellevue would both probably say that Ludlow is the #2 rivalry game on their schedules, but I think there is something different about the Dayton/Bellevue games. Maybe they should have built Ludlow where Silver Grove or Newport is and that could have really made the three way rivalry...

And it doesn't really help test a team. Lickert was big on testing playing the best competition available, and was the one that moved Dayton from playing their OOC schedule against team like Bellevue, Owen County, and Grant to people like Lloyd, Holmes, and Scott.

If he gets 200 yards and they only score 13 points there is going to be a decent amount of turnovers...

The only thing I think I could think of that would qualify as a "bad break" that isn't directly related to one team doing something good or the other team doing something bad is an official's calls or injuries. Injuries happen. Penalties, well, don't get caught and you won't have to worry about it....

Yes. Beechwood lost their best player. Calvary returns their three best players. Also, IMO, the best player on Calvary's team hasn't even been mentioned yet, and that is the O'Keefe kid. Flanigan is a player and a good shooter, but I just don't think his shot repertoire is as big as O'Keefe's. He has the jump shot but also uses the backboard well, has a little runner, and could battle inside if they ask him to. Frankly, I'm not that impressed with Glass. He gets garbage buckets and rebounds decently but not as well as he should with his touted athleticism. On the defensive end I think he relies on bullying people, which doesn't work with the better offensive players. JMO... Calvary and Beechwood should be the preseason favorites in D3...

Don't knock Avery by sayin their biggest asset this yera is that Riley can distribute the rock because Avery could do that. Riley will be dangerous because he can distribute the rock and knock down shots from the perimeter consistantly... And I don't know if people understand how important the bolded portion of your post is.... You get the most out of a team when they know each other well enough and have played together enough and been around each other enough that they can play, and this is cliche, but just play as one. Always know where each other is on the court and that if one person screws up another is there to pick them up. That is when you maximize the talent on a team.

I hope this isn't turning into a "my dad is better than your dad" kind of thread... I am going to disagree with the part about "who gets the breaks wins the game" bit. You make your own breaks. Want a "break"? Force a fumble on the goal line. Make a big completion. Make the plays and you don't need any help.

No extra motivation is really needed in this one... But I will agree that that was really not a smart thing to say...

Dayton did the same last year and nearly sold out old Davis Field. I wouldn't be surprised for it to become the norm for the home team to make this game the homecoming game for years to come now that they aren't playing the last game of the season. The paddle is just a new thing the schools did that really gives an object to display the yearly bragging rights. The rivalry is much older and deeper than just the paddle. This is the most played rivalry and second oldest rivalry in the state. Bad blood runs deep in the veins of this one. As for actual game strategy, to me it seems pretty simple that the team that can stop the opposing offense's strength has the upper hand. Bellevue has a strong run game, so Dayton will need to dig in on the defensive front to keep Buckler and friends bottled up. Dayton is at their best in the vertical passing game as long as they can keep Sherlock clean, so Bellevue needs to get a good pass rush and maybe drop an extra DB every now and then. Looking at the season up to this point, Bellevue seems to have the more talented team. But you don't have to look farther than the first round of last years playoffs to see that the team that is proabably more talented doesn't always win in this rivalry... I think the best I have heard this rivalry summed up was in the article before last years game by one of the players, who said something like: "We don't like them, they don't like us, no one really knows why, that's just how it is." Yup, that's it...

Why is Bellevue still playing Bracken County?

Don't know if Masey is playing this year......haven't heard much about the 08/9 team, but to be clear, he made a scene, which was uncalled for, however it was a direct result of a very inappropriate comment and gesture from the opponents stands, which has no place in HS sports. Yes, he over-reacted as many kids will......no it wasn't without cause. Hopefully, all will be well if he is on that team this season

Ok, from what I've been able to gather from a source or three, there were a lot of sketchy things going on. I heard about the possible block in the back. I also heard that there were some sketchy things going on on LC's last drive too. Something about a guy having cramps every play when LC had no TO's. Haven't been able to find anything about a TD ignored, but it was a year ago, so... I heard about the band deal too. The ref stopped the game multiple times right? Must have been a big deal if that happened. Can't imagine they'd make that trip though. I've heard that the band still plays at home games... All in all, it sounds like this is a shame that this series will end after this year. Makings of a cross state rivalry...
