What does Dayton need to do to improve in 2008/2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Surprised none of the Dayton fans have been here yet. Eastin is a great scorer and they have young talent. I think this will be a good year for Dayton but a very unpredictable with all the youth.

well Dayton is returning 4 to 5 starters with 7 or 8 juniors who are all very talented. I heard that they are stepping in their roles very well helping with leadership. And senior forward Devin Sparks is showing a very good attitude for being the only senior. Shawn Eastin Tyler Lovell and Cody Turner are also showing they can lead a team. Dayton should be looking forward to a very productive season this year. Look for them at the top of their confrence this year.

Very true it was fun watchin that 5 play when they were all in and didnt have attitudes all them have potentional eastin massey sparks lovell and turner... Cant wait to watch them this season... Good luck Devils:thumb:

Who all is in Dayton's district?

I was extremely impressed with Coach Dilt's Greendevils last year.

 

My only knock on them is that they play as though the two teams had chosen up sides and were doing battle in a school yard.

 

You don't score style points, nor do fancy passes count for anything, nor do blocked shots, slam-dunks, stupid fouls etc.. They draw reaction (favorable if successful) from the fans, but they don't put points on the board.

 

The Dayton team needs to take themselves seriously, learn to play organized basketball, control tempo, control clock, play serious defense, take high percentage shots, foul with digression - all ingredients of a championship caliber ballclub. It might not be as much fun at first, especially at practice, but consistent victory comes with a price, and the rewards of a successful season far outweigh any slam-dunk, razzle-dazzle pass, steal, or blocked shot that in the long run will cause defeat!

 

The ingredients are there, they simply need to believe in themselves and get serious about being good.

Is Masey still playing. I know last year when they played Bellevue in the districts some kind of call was made then Massey made a huge scene and was escorted to the locker room, caused by some fans, and haven't heard anything since?

Don't know if Masey is playing this year......haven't heard much about the 08/9 team, but to be clear, he made a scene, which was uncalled for, however it was a direct result of a very inappropriate comment and gesture from the opponents stands, which has no place in HS sports. Yes, he over-reacted as many kids will......no it wasn't without cause.

Hopefully, all will be well if he is on that team this season

Yes he is coming back and playing. And he did over react but all there kids have there heads up and coach has them thinking positive this will be a great season for the Greendevils

I met a few of the Dayton basketball players at the Brossart-Dayton football game last night, and if I were Coach Dilts, would be very encouraged that his players are not only looking forward to the upcoming season, but feel very strongly about their chances this year.

 

Identifying and confronting your weaknesses is normally half the battle, and by his own admission, the lone returning senior admitted to getting caught up in the extra-curriculars of the game in the past, losing focus and his cool and being detrimental to the team effort at times last year. I encouraged him to take ownership in the team, police his teammates, and lead by example.

 

In a previous post I identified what I thought were the team's keys to success this year. The players I spoke with, quoted them for me. Coach Dilts must have printed my comments off and posted them where the players could see them. If they are worth a few points, a defensive stop, or a turnover or two less this year then it was worth my time and effort in providing them.

 

This team will certainly have its rough edges, but I was impressed with the high quality kids that Coach Dilts has to work with this year and their interest in being successful Dayton Greendevils!
