  1. Their defense was surprisingly good the first two games for such a young team. I think they only had one error. Their last game against Lloyd didn't look as good but the field may have had a little to do with it. Their bats against the other teams starter has been struggling but they have been able to hit some of the relievers coming in. Their pitching is not over powering at all but have thrown strikes for the most part and with the good defense they have at least been able to play 7 innings They have a good core of Soph's and have been playing two 8th graders alot and they haven't hurt them at all so in a couple of years they may be fairly competitive. They could have won the Gallatin County game (runners 2nd and third, 1 one out in top of seven and tie score.... 2 K's) and they were up on Lloyd 4-3 in the 5th before falling apart. Coach Bieger has them working hard and they are fundamently sound, just YOUNG...
  2. No offense, but I would like you to be the official scorer everytime my kid hits Cooper had two bunts that were not handled, the shortstop over threw first by ten feet, the right fielder dropped a fly ball, the center fielder had a ball go through his legs, the left fielder had one get by him... and these are just the ones off the top of my head. In defense on some plays, Lloyd's field is not one of the best I've seen, and that's putting it nicely. I'm not making excuses, Lloyd deserved to win more than Cooper and they both played on the same field and Lloyd misplayed several as well. Just very generous scoring, but you took the time to keep track, and everyone has an opinion. :thumb:
  3. After having only 1 or 2 errors in the first two games combined, the Cooper defense had a rough outing.
  4. Great game by DC... I saw him play for the KY Colonels last year and was impressed with his size and strength. I'm surprised they haven't pitched him in the last few years if he looked this good his first time out.
  5. Cooper was close to pulling out their first win in their second game. They came from a 7-1 deficit in the 6th inning to tie the ballgame. In the top of the 7th they had runners on first and second with one out and the score tied but Gallatin's pitcher, Zack Jones (I think), came up with back to back strike outs. Gallatin's starter #24 pitched very well thru 5, giving up 1 run. I need to do a better job of writing down names, but this was the jist of it.
  6. I heard Boone got their tarp from the Florence Freedom this year since they went to turf field. Lucky them!!!!
  7. I have no idea of the umpire situation but we only had one umpire for JV this week and then two for our Varsity. Maybe he was only paid for one game.
  8. I should have been more clear. I think all of Cooper's 9th region games are home and away.
  9. I believe Cooper goes to Wiliamstown on Friday and Varsity is 5pm and JV is at 7pm. I think all the games between 9th region are home and away on same day.
  10. Scott's starting pitcher did real well and Smith took care of those fast balls left out over the plate. I thought it was real classy after the first pitch for the Scott catcher to bring the ball over to coach Bieger representing the first pitch in Cooper's first season. I also thought coach Bieger's boys regrouped after the 7 runs in the first inning plus and forcing the game into a complete 7 inning game. One of Cooper's three seniors, John Williamson, came in and pitched well. Good luck to both teams this year.
  11. I'm not as high on the other Billy any longer. Even after winning Championships you should at least be able to get your team in the tournament. I'm not saying compete for a final four as you rebuild but atleast make it in.
  12. You need to re-count. There are three Seniors.:banana:
  13. Cooper Varsity Roster... very young... 2 Griggs, Reuben JR 3 Ballinger, Nick SO 7 Louden, Sam SR 8 Brownfield, Andrew SO 9 Phillips, Nick SO 10 Haddox, Chris JR 12 Kilbourn, Max FR 14 Ramey, Tyler JR 15 Williamson, John SR 21 Carella, Adam 8th 22 Morris, Tyler 8th 23 Thompson, Ryan SO 24 Blank, Jared 8th 27 Bjurquist, John SO 28 Wilkie, Troy SO 31 Collins, A.J. 8th 35 Turner, Travis JR 40 Dickman, Brett SR
  14. He wouldn't be the younger Maile would he? I saw him play and he is solid. I only know of one other Freshman at Cov Cath so I didn't have many to guess...:thumb:
  15. I would hate to see the 4 Boone County schools split up... Conner, Cooper, Ryle and Boone need to stay together IMO..
  16. Is the 33rd for baseball the same as basketball? I think St Henry moved districts if this is the case. So is the 33rd consisting of Conner, Boone, Ryle, Cooper and Heritage?
  17. I was right behind the HHS bench and Willy did get annoying. This is the first time seeing HHS play so maybe others are used to it where I was not. Every play Willy seemed to be yelling.. "and one, moving screen, foul, walk, etc.."
  18. I totally agree it should be on pitches and not innings. TOG gave a perfect example of why. I would hope that ALL coaches would put a kids health before a WIN.
  19. I have my tickets as well and I think I'm only a couple of rows behind you.. I agree, shoud be a very good crowd.
  20. I understand your point of view. But next year when the 8th graders are Freshman do you now cut those you kept the previous year, because evidently they weren't as good as the 8th graders? I guess the kids may get one year of High School ball. This could be an issue where several people will just have to agree to disagree because it would probably overtake the Thread.
  21. Cooper made their cuts on Tuesday, and of course with the new school, they are very young. I know they have seven eighth graders that they kept for JV. I don't think there are any players with previous Varsity experience. There were 4 Senior's doing conditioning work but I'm not sure how many made the team. Coach Bieger will have his work cut our for him and his staff this year but the program is headed in the right direction.:thumb:
  22. I didn't see Robinson or Hodges name in the box score. Did they play?
  23. Great article. I must say I have become an EC fan as well. While reading the story it had my mind wandering back as a kid growing up in our small town near Rabbit Hash!!!! The small towns in NKY are growing and you seem to lose something along the way but you don't know you lost it until you read something like this that almost takes you back in time. We were planning on taking a "scenic" ride through parts of KY this year and we may have to travel this part of the State this year....:thumb:
  24. I agree... and as mentioned earlier, Cov Cath has to earn wins like everyone else, they are not given to them. This happens to be a year where Beechwood is the better team, no shame in that. Congrats Tigers..
