  1. I also might add the class that Coach Bieger showed against Villa. After the score reached around 10-0 Cooper kids continued to hit balls to the fence but everyone moved one base at a time. I heard some of Villa's parents remarking about the class Coach Bieger showed, as well as the Cooper kids.
  2. It is the score, if not worse!!! Cooper beat Villa on Saturday 20 something to zero and it was listed as 10-0... which is the correct thing to do IMO.
  3. Just wondering, with a district seeding game against Cov Cath today, why would they pitch Roenker last night? I thought I read he was their ace but maybe I'm mistaken.:idunno:
  4. To put it mildly, Cooper just had one of those days. Conner hit every pitcher hard, our defense which can be very good at times, was not on this day. As far as running up the score, each will have their opinion. All I will say is at one point, Conner would move one base at a time, then a few batters later they would take the extra base, and then back to one base at a time. I personally just think when the reserves for Conner got in, they just were playing ball and probably not listening to what the coach told the starters, which is one base at a time. Coach Bieger was out sick and from what I hear he never misses a baseball game so I know he must have been feeling very bad, and even worse when he sees the score. IMO our coaches need to know when to pull some of these pitchers when they can't find the strike zone, no matter who you have to pitch. The young man who had the issues in the Ryle game with walks was left in again way to long, IMO.... He is a fine player but from what I understand he hasn't pitched in a couple of years and just doesn't have the mechanics or confidence at this point. I also think it's time to look at some of the outfielders defensively, way too many dropped balls and balls that should be tracked down are not due to bad jumps, etc.. With this team so young the only way they can compete, which they have more than not this year, is to throw strikes and play flawless defense.
  5. Cooper did swing the bats very well today but against very slow pitching from Williamstown and Villa. No offense to either of those schools but Conner will be much harder to hit. If Conner throws one of their top two it will be hard to win, but anything is possible. Cooper's defense has been great for the most part but has occasions where it has hurt them (like most schools). Should be a good game though.
  6. Cooper played on this field Wednesday and we were making the same comments. While taking infield a ball was hit to second baseman and the last hop in the grass before it hit dirt, the ball went directly left about ten feet. I feel for the kids of Holmes who have to play on this field.
  7. Travis Turner pitches another good game. This is the first game the entire team didn't look like they were ready to play. Some sloppy defense when normally they are very sound. However, Cooper gets win number two.
  8. Go to UKATHLETICS.COM and you can follow game by game. He started out hot the first weekend but lately has been receiving little playing time. I'm sure he will adjust and be just fine. I believe UK had a top five recruiting class as well.
  9. Well, it wasn't cold so he doesn't need to warm up and dinner should be over by now!! Just kidding TOG, love your breakdowns. Cov Cath will be tough to beat when it really counts. Great win for Boone though and to think Cooper had them for five innings.
  10. There are a couple of 8th graders playing varsity that have better arms than the relievers that have been coming in, but one is catching and the other has a growth plate issue in his elbow and won't pitch any more this year. With everyone but one starting senior coming back next year, they could challenge next year.
  11. Once again Cooper had a lead late and couldn't hang on. They led 5-2 going to the sixth when they had to change pitchers. Boone scored 6 runs to take the win. Doug teegarden pitched well for Boone. Some of the five runs he gave up were due to errors but Cooper did hit well again. Ryan Thompson pitched five solid innings for Cooper giving up only two runs, one a lead off homer by Lokesak. Cooper's defense continues to keep them in games.
  12. I took my son up to Yankee stadium last year and it was a great experience for two baseball nuts. We are either going to Boston or the New Yankee stadium sometime this year. It's hard to schedule when you figure in his baseball and football seasons.
  13. I believe he is currently a substitute teacher hoping for a permanent position at Cooper.
  14. The Cooper Jags first victory! :dancingpa :dancingpa The good. A complete game pitching performance by Travis Turner and solid defense. The bad. They play Cov Cath tomorrow.
  15. I agree. I would have probably pulled him after the third walk myself. It's usually clear when a kid just doesn't have it.
  16. I did not make this game but have talked to another dad that was there. I don't agree with leaving him in that long but supposedly with games tonight, Friday and Saturday, coach Bieger was going to stick with his rotation that he had set up. This may be the first time I've disagreed with him coaching this very young team. However, didn't a lot of people back up Walt at St Henry over the same thing. It was called a learning experience, not worrying about one game and getting them ready for later, etc... Again, if I have Ryle on the ropes for the first victory in the history of the school, I worry ONLY about this game at the time. I could be wrong but the person I spoke to said it was 5-1 after the 5th and the 6th inning was the one with the issues. If so, 6 outs away from a win and a 4 run lead. I feel for the kids who have worked hard but I believe in Coach Bieger.. just not this time.
  17. Just think how much weight will be lifted off your shoulders after you tell her you need to wait. I've been married 20 years in November and we have had our moments like everyone else but we always make it work out. As we get older, it is actually getting easier. I think I finally have her trained!! :thumb:
  18. Where would Noll rank on Conner's pitching staff? I know their ace is out and West is up there and since I don't follow Conner too close I haven't heard of Noll.
  19. Cooper has been able to hang tough with a single game but the lack of pitching depth on a young squad shows on double headers. Daniel did have 7 steals but the only issue I would have is if you are up by 11 runs late in a game, why are you stealing? I know his stolen base total for the year will look nice though.
  20. It's not hard to read between the lines when Calipari was being interviewed by ESPN this weekend. When asked about roster spots, he was basically saying he will meet with each kid and tell them they don't fit with his system and they will be released from their year-to-year scholorship. He was just being politically correct by saying he doesn't want a kid to be unhappy here in February sitting on the bench. He has all the roster spots he needs, 13 of them if needed. I'm not saying this is the right thing to do but I understand his position, he knows he needs to win next year. :thumb:
  21. The reason it ranks up there is because Duke was a double digit favorite and UK, with a bunch of KENTUCKY kids that stuck around, had them beat with 1.8 seconds left. It took a stomp to the chest (no technical) and a perfect shooting day by Laetner, who was a great COLLEGE player to win. I do agree, I remember watching the '98 game and thinking Pitino probably wouldn't have won that game, BUT Tubby did and that's all that matters. Hope to be playing the Devils soon again!!:thumb:
  22. Maile is signed for UK.... now if he is drafted very high and offered a lot of dough, I think any kid would have to weigh those options. But I see him going to UK and I will go see him and Farris play.
  23. My son likes the entire staff. There is some youth there in some coaches and they have some fun and coach Bieger makes sure they are doing things the right way and focused on the task at hand as well as giving them some moments to joke with each other. One other big plus is he told us at the parents meeting that no coaches have any ties to the current athletes and whoever deserves to play will play. I hear so many "political" issues at some other schools that make you shake your head. I personally know some kids at other schools and one gets moved up over the other when there is no way it should be happening, but one kids parents have know the coach for years and the other not. We are looking forward to that first victory!!!:thumb:
