A game that East deserved to win. They got every loose ball, and played very well. Shot well, shot FT's well...all the things you need to do to win basketball games. Congrats on a good win, and the Lady Vikings will get it together, I am sure.

Coach Cantrell has done a good job and is deserving of any recognition that comes his way. As far as the girls go, they play extremely hard and they play with class as well. Extremely talented offensive players who have given their fans a lot of exciting moments; moments they can be proud of. Good luck with the rest of your season!

Better hope LCA doesn't shoot 15 or 16 of 22 from 3! lol! Good luck to both teams; both are top notch with a chance to win it all!

First of all, I will repeat: LCA is very good...possibly the best team in the state. With 3 D 1"s, they are obviously talented. Since everone on here is speculating, let me speculate that no team in the great state of KY could have beaten them on that night. Secondly, for the insightful poster that wondered whether RC can guard...REALLY? Also, I don't recall anyone from Morehead saying RC was # 1 in the state, and I can tell you they are not caught up in that stuff. They play hard and do the best they can. As far as the schedule goes, Rowan is locked into 9 games per year as a member of the EKC. That's why they try to beef up the schedule as much as possible. You can debate Boone Co. and Notre Dame as being up or down, but traditionally they are a power, so when RC went up there, both were highly thought of. And I do believe Boone Co. was at full strength at that point. As far as the rest of the region learning something and maybe having a different outcome....maybe. It certainly is possible. But, maybe RC learned something too. Listen, you can debate whether RC is any good or not. Those girls certainly don't have a vote when it comes time to rank the teams, so don't bash them for playing hard and trying to win every game. They just play as hard as they can every night. Just don't take away from what they have done to this point, and don't call them names. They are still young ladies who play the game the right way, and before you start bashing them, maybe you should give a little credit to a very good team; maybe the best team in the state. (And by the way, LCA got drilled by 23 by Notre Dame...means they can't be top 10, right?)

Only one way to put this one...a good old fashioned butt whipping! LCA hit something like 15 of 22 3's many in transition. What a team and what a performance. Very athletic and highly skilled. They are as good or better than adverised. Best team I have seen this year and one of the best performances I have ever seen. Hats off to the Lady Eagles.

Really? Interesting.....don't they have to play the 16th region in the first round? Or did they get a bye?

They're 9-7 and "hard to defend it all?" Not taking a shot at them, but c'mon, the UT Lady Vols don't play in the 16th, so don't act like any team has so many weapons they can't be guarded. RC has seen zone the last 7-8 games, so they weren't confused...patient might be a better word. They scored 60 in just over 3 quarters against it, before RC pulled them out of it in the 4th. "Cracks in the armor"? We shall see.....

Closer? Maybe...maybe not. No way of knowing that. I bet Connor, who played brilliantly, will be defended differently if they play again. As far as the zone goes, nobody will play RC man, so it's not like he reinvented the wheel. I'm sure they knew it was coming. If Rowan knocks down more perimeter jumpers, this one is over early. Interesting that Ashland bills themselves as a pressing, man to man, uptempo team, and then tries to do something just the opposite....identity crisis?

Have they started to seed the 16th region tournament? Why all the talk of who is 2nd, or 3rd? Just wondering.....

No, the point is some would say that if RC plays aggressive man to man defense at the end of a game, it is considered unsportsmanlike because the other teams have difficulty performing. One could make the argument from the other perspective that if that is indeed unsportsmanlike, then throwing the ball in the post to 2 6 footers to play against someone 6 inches shorter could also be regarded as unsportsmanlike. I don't agree with either assessment. Teams play to their strength...period.

Nobody was complaining about the state tournament; someone posted that fouls were the reason RC didn't win, and I merely offered some other scenarios. Just so you know, in case the team you support ever wins the region, they press at Diddle! Maybe you could petition the KHSAA on that too....

Rowan's freshman class is very athletic, and will flat out guard you. Taylor Lewis and Katherine Duff have the potential to be special offensive players.

I assume they did, unless there's been a geographical change I'm not aware of. When did their regional tournament finish up? Anyway, that's not an excuse for our girls. Anyway you slice it, they're defending 16th Region champs. The thread was about Russell and Rowan Co, and whether or not the girls should play hard for 32 minutes or allow other teams to do as they please in the game.

Were you there? RC had a 7 pt lead in the 3rd, and went cold. Continued to get the same looks, they just didn't go down. As far as foul trouble that wasn't a problem. Might have been the fact that the legs went a little dead after playing the semis on Sunday, the finals on Monday, traveling on Tuesday and playing early on Wednesday? Ever thought about that?

There's also a point of emphasis on post play and dislodging defenders. As far as WKU and Breathitt was concerned, that's a perfect illustration of my point...smaller, pressing teams are at a disadvantage when the game is called tightly on the perimeter, and they "let them play" in the post. And, I think the "L" had more to do with shooting 28% than it did anything else.

Regardless of what the experts think on here, there is a difference between straight man and a F/C press.

It wasn't a press...but I think that RC will continue to play an aggressive man to man. And, I was there, but I recall Rowan playing solid 1/2 court man for at least the last 4 minutes....?!

Did anybody say it was unfair then? And Russell has a storied program with a very good, classy coach. They will be fine. Just don't denigrate another program for style of play.

Again, it was not a press. RC doesn't play zone, so they played man to man...with freshmen and sophomores against the opposing teams starters. Is it fair to the younger kids to let other teams walk the ball up the floor and throw it into the post where you have absolutely no chance to defend it? Another thing you fail to realize is that many young kids audition for playing time in the closing minutes of games. Also, has RC just started pressing? Or, have they done it for YEARS? Seems like some programs would work to get better at it instead of always pointing the finger at teams when they know it's coming; seems to be a program philosophy to get after folks on defense. And whatever happened to teaching kids to play for 32 minutes? The younger kids are not supposed to play hard? RC took a lot of lumps in the past from the Rebecca Gray led Scott Co. teams and the North Hardin's to get an accurate gauge of what it takes to get to a high level of basketball. So don't act like RC hasn't been "bitten" before.
