This year's team was extraordinary, yet they squeaked by in two of their final three playoff games. Trinity has maximized their talent in the past decade, X has not.

Of course it matters. Imagine if St. X decided to open up their offense like Trinity. Or imagine if Trinity ran the triple option during their great run in the 2000's...Would they have won all those state titles? That is debatable... Not only does Good Coaching, Bad Coaching matter but coaching philosophy and decison making. Coaches can help win games and help lose them. In fact, IMO, St. X lost their championship game in 2007 in OT because of the coaches lack of execution and not players lack of execution.

Bruns is probably the best Defensive Back in NKY...however, i picture him tackling Elliot at the knees...Roller was all over the place.

Compare it to what Coach Warner decided to do for the 09 and 10 seasons, playing Highlands twice. Most people still think this was ludacris, even though they gave Highlands a decent game in both attempts. I look forward to those games being even closer this year. Playing Colerain the following two seasons is just that next step...But what if Ryle beats Highlands 2x in 10...they would be looking for that bigger challenge....:sssh: That challenge is Colerain! And I agree, we'll find out in 2011.

You're right. Elliot does mostly run behind a fullback but a portion of Ryle's offense is out of the gun, which he has had success. I was just debating talent level. There is not a team in NKY that would not have used Elliot in the backfield in 2009, including Highlands and SK. I don't think he, as a Soph, was as good as Simpson but would still receive many carries in that backfield. However, he still has two years to go. As some have stated, he is way ahead of Simpson when comparing Soph seasons.

Two Division 1 players (Murray and Nichols) in four seasons is more than they have ever had. If you look at the team for the upcoming 2010 season, there may be at least that many...which is nothing compared to Highlands but they are going in the right direction. Ryle has had one sub-par season since 2005. If they continue improving depth, size, and skill...they will compete with T and X...and maybe even Colerain. Only time will tell.

I don't want to know where you come from....other than Cal. De La Salle, name a consistent football program by your defintion. Even Highlands takes a break every few years from a State Title... Ryle plays Colerain in week 2...How does this have any effect on the teams they play in the playoffs?? That is an obsurd comment to say this game does not help, for that reason. I have great respect for Ohio football but it is usually not reciprocal. To have an opportunity to take down a "power" in Cincinnati is a big deal for a program who has aspirations of becoming great. Ryle is playing Colerain for exposure. They are playing them for a chance to be recognized. They are playing them to see big time players with size and speed to the caliber of D1 athletes. Not simply fot a paycheck. Ryle's 2010 campaign should be there best ever. In 2011, Elliot will be a senior. In 2012 they are potentially reloading again...Ryle most definitely will receive criticism for scheduling Colerain in back2back years. Even if they do get beat a zillion to seven (Guru's prediction), it will provide them a measuring stick of where they need to be and what they want to become!!

If Elliot and Fennel were on the same team, Elliot would have started over him...as a freshman. If he had run behind the "Great OL" of Highlands (and they were great BTW) he would have put up equal numbers to what he did with Ryle...with fewer carries. Who has Highlands got coming back next year that is even in the same ballpark? Hopefully Dale doesnt have Elliot's phone number....

It would have been neat to see him play at Stanford. It's not very often you see a KY boy have an opportunity to play on the West Coast. He is probably one of the biggest players being recruited out of the Midwest...6'7 and over 270lbs. And it's not like he's played OL his whole life. He is a former TE/WR and a basketball player. Who wouldn't want to take a chance at signing this kid?

SK did play Henry Clay, at home...and got beat pretty easily. Granted, most SK fans will say that they played as poorly as they could possibly play. They also played quality district opponents, Ryle and Conner. So, IMO, i think they played good competition to prepare them to compete for the state title. However, did they feel confident in competing with the likes of St. X from the kickoff?? Who knows. I agree that they were as good as St. X and it was the best chance they have ever had at winning a state championship. And I also agree that you cannot get better by playing 1A and 2A teams regularly...but that was not the reason why SK fell to St. X.

They may have not been elite but compare the result to the strides Ryle's program made from one season to the next...In 2005, Glen Este beat Ryle 49-7, with that 7 coming in the final minutes of the game. In 2006, it was a 14-7 halftime game which ended up 28-7. That Glen Este team had a very nice season. If anyone can recognize the position in which Ryle's football program is headed, it is their Head Coach. 2011 and 2012 will be good years for Ryle. Time will tell whether they can compete with an elite team from Ohio. However, I am certain they can compete with the elite from Kentucky in 2010, thats all that matters at the moment!

Miles Simpson. Best i saw last year too. Maybe i dont get out much.

Ryle will be good and not likely overlooked by many. Whenever threads begin about next season, Elliott will likely be the most talked about player in all of NKY, as Junior. Can't wait :ylsuper:

I know this is not the topic of the thread but you throw D1 caliber out there like it is common. This year, as predicted by the enquirer in preseason and here on BGP, is no-doubt NKY's best season as far as individual D1 talent. A kid like West from Conner might have been the best QB is NKY since O'toole from Dixie, IMO. But from what I've heard, he doesnt have D1 schools of any sort courting him. I truely hope NKY continues to get noticed by D1 schools. D'vontae Bradley could be one for the Class of 2011. Good luck to him and Cooper. :isurrender:

The entire quote. You say they need to change their offensive philosophy despite have 3 D1 type receivers. That is a slam against their offense. But maybe i misread. Anyway, when has Boone had 3 Division 1 skilled players, ever...D1 is rarely achievable by NKY kids at the very least, with the exception of Highlands of course.

Werent you just badmouthing the offense and said they had talent?? Or is it both? Cooper is still two years away IMO. Their games will be closer but when they do get better, it will seem like it's been overnight. In the 2010 season, i dont think they are quite ready to make a playoff run or even collect a district victory.

Bradley suprised a whole lot of people and i'm sure impressed many HS and College coaches. Finally, an athlete who realizes that being 6'0" tall and 190 pounds, translates to a football player not a basketball star. Maybe if AAU coaches werent pushing basketball on this kid his whole life, he would have made a name for himself sooner. Leave Bball to the 6-5 to 6-7 kids...wait those kids can play football too! :sssh: We can blame our own Commonwealth for hyping up the sport of basketball from birth. There are so many potentially great football players, glued to the basketball court...it is unfortunate. Remember the days when Lorenzen and Smith terrorized the court and field. That is fun to watch, not some skinny 6-4 kid hoisting up threes but can't post up...thats another discussion obviously. But D'vontae Bradley had a great seasopn and will be a first or second team All NKY RB next year, for certain.

I agree that the University of Louisville is moving in the right direction, which would be momentum...UK on the other hand, is kind of stagnant. They are set to play in a bowl game, yes...but by no means is there any excitement following that program. I think Miles would fit in anywhere, he is a terrific player. With that being said, I'd like to see Coach Jones snatch him up.

Come on man, really. Highlands had a bunch of indviduals who played great together, to form a team. They had plenty of players recognized. The only other names who should have been considered are the TE #86 and #27 Unless :idunno: We could rename the team, All Highlands Team w/ a few others from KY lucky enough. That sounds kinda catchy...:lol:
