They mentioned on WYMT today at 6 that they would have more on the Black Bears on Tuesday's 6 o'clock sports.

Us Harlan Countians are the ones being called cocky, but it is the people that get on here and complain about us being 3A that mentions winning state. I don't think I have seen a Harlan County post where someone flat out says we are going to win state and dominate. We all are excited and like any fan base expect to be a good team. Just because Mercer won doesn't have a thing to do with us. And I may have missed this but the quote "Harlan County consolidated to win a state championship" That is crazy whomever had that thought may not realize that Evarts and Cumberland High schools were here when they opened the first coal mine!

Boy those pigs smell good cooking, our first taste of tailgating I guess, looks like we are on the right track.

LCC looks to be a good team. Although we haven't played a game yet I believe the Black Bears will be fine. I feel like I keep saying the same things over and over again but being the first game I think emotions will play a big part. Harlan County should have a lot of fan support goin accross the mountain and should have a pretty competitive team. The Black Bear fans and LCC Cougar fans have already been stirring up some friendly trash talk. Looks to be a great rivalry from the get go. GO BEARS!

Just reading over this thread because you all will play the new Harlan County Black Bears this year. First off THANKS for playing us I know we had a difficult time with people dropping off the schedule and stuff. I also like your attitude that your team will be fine against the new High School. There is even a tread about it on here about it, but a lot of people are complaining that we are a 5A playing a 3A schedule. It comes as a welcomed surprise that you all don't back down and look forward to playing Harlan County, who know what we will have! Good Luck this season.

Hey Outlaw I know exactly what you are talking about. I lived in Keene Hall my first year at EKU. It was awful when it rained or snowed. My roommate always laughed at me we would head over to campus the same time as this one big guy tall and fat, I would hide behind him to block the wind and rain. Seems like that Alumni Coliseum parking lot got longer everyday. Thank goodness for big guys to keep traffic from splashing you!

Come on HDE I was roaming around EKU in the 90's and still found time to earn a degree and stay up late and watch TV. Especially Sanford and Son on TV Land. I miss Blair almost as much as I have missed Football these last few months.

Not sure if you all will ever see him play but the middle school in Harlan County played Pennington Gap, VA in the conference championship last year and Pennington had a do all kid Tyler Graham fastest human being I have ever seen in real life. I'm guessing he will be playing high school ball at Lee County High in VA. He is a pleasure to watch. My brother in law and I still talk about him.

I think by the time Harlan County plays Breathitt we will know where they stand. That will be our 5th game and Coach Larkey should have the team where he wants them by then. We play Letcher Central in our first game, but emotions will be high so I think it can go either way with that one. The Breathitt game will be our first home game so emotions will be running wild again but with four games under their belt Coach Larkey should have carved his little chunk of coal into a respected football team by then. Sorry for getting of course! I think Harlan County will be right in front of Breathitt or second behind them in our district!

Harlan County needed a new high school didn't necessarily need a new football team, but the three schools have come together as one and the county is behind these boys 100% It was something that had to be done. The powers that be could have decided to play Evarts or Cumberlands schedule a 1A schedule if that is all we cared about was winning. How can being ban from the playoffs better the education of these Kids? To me all of this is useless complaining on both our parts. I say it is just best for you to give me your final opinion and we will just agree to disagree and continue to discuss football.

First off I think it is foolish to say punish the kids or the school system. I agree it is unfair, but most schools play non district games out of their class so what is the big deal! If the KHSAA would have tried to plan around when the school was going to open and plan a football schedule due to a guess you could bet your bottom dollar the school wouldn't have opened on time and then you would have had the three schools that consolidated without a schedule. With all the troulbe we had here dealing with consolidation I'm positive that sports was the furthest thing from the school boards mind. Things have been dealt with the best they could have. We are playing Letcher Central our first game a 5A school. We are playing Cawood schedule which is a 3A schedule that has at least two 1A schools on it. They aren't gripping about playing up two classes and actually with the size of the school they are playing up 4 classes. Again no it's not fair but some schools are just better than others, a Harlan County school hasn't beat Bell County in years but we don't complain becuase they are better than us we want to play them. I hate to say it but I believe it with all my heart to be the best you have to play the best. A little competition never hurt anyone. Only 1 team off our 10 game schedule has complained about playing us. Get over it and play football. There is just no easy way to fix this problem.

I think it would be great if Bears fans filled up the home team parking lot and made them fill out of place. We need to get there early and show our support! They said once the parking lot fills up you have to park up on a hill and walk down, I say we make the Cougar fans do the walking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Friday night and Saturday will be good practice for the tailgate parties we have been discussing! Should be an awesome time, I'm anxious to see how much support we really do have! Ken Moody donated a wooden bear just like the one in front of the steakhouse it should be on display Saturday, although it will seem small compared to what Mama Bear has planned!

Naming the field and the stadium will be two different things. Like naming the Gym and the floor in Basketball. Maybe it can be Needham Saylor Field in Miners Memorial Coliseum. Maybe Coliseum is too much but I like to dream big, Miners Memorial Stadium sounds good to. The soccer, baseball, Softball, and tennis courts will be all together maybe that can be the Miners Memorial Sports Complex.
