I didn't complain about the AP running backs. Look at the numbers and tell me they aren't at least honorable mention.

I'm sure there are more. That was the purpose of the thread. I saw some on the AP thread and thought it more appropriate their was a thread of it's own.

Didn't want to spoil the celebration of the young men who were named AP All-State and honorable mention so I thought I would start a thread on the kids left out. I'm a Bellevue fan so I will start with Ricky Buckler. The following stats are after 13 games mainly because thats where the KHSAA stats seem to stop. 1. Led the entire state in rushing after regular season. 2. Led the entire state in rushing TD's after regular season. 3. Led the entire state in carries, showing his team ask him to do more than any other team in the state ask of a single player. 4. Out of 16 kids on the list for Running Backs here is how he compares after 13 games. (3 of the players weren't even listed on the top 15 for their class) Total yards # 1 - 2,851 Rushing TD's #1 - 42 # of car # 1 - 387 Average Yards per game #1 -219 Average Yards per carry # 11 - 7.4 In addition to this years stats Ricky set school records in: 1. Single Season Scoring - 252 2. Career Scoring - 496 3. Single Season Rushing - 2851 yards 4. Career Rushing - 5263 yards 5. Single game Rushing - 362 yards In addition to his school records Ricky Buckler will appear on the list of 10 different state records. How was this kid over looked?:confused:

Devil4LIfe33 if indeed you told it like it was then why haven't you addressed the fact that Diltz had to physically pick a second kid that came off the bench up and remove him from the court. Gallopin Ghost is right though: Dayton has some very nice people who I'm proud to call my friends. PS: I still like to beat them when possible.

Devil4life33 you seem to be a little one sided when telling the story. I understand you had your green goggles on. I occasionally have my Tiger goggles on. You left out the part where Diltz grabbed the second ( a varsity ) player that was trying to get a piece of the Bellevue Player. Any time you have a rival game like Bellevue and Dayton it's going to get ugly once in a while on the playing field. When people get on here and post all the petty things, others think these two school just don' get along at all. On the contrary most of the students get along very good and have played sports together all their lives. It's generally the adults that don't get along. As for the comment about playing a football player in the second half. I guess a little sports lesson is in order. In football once the opposing team scores a certain amount of points (45) the mercy rule goes into effect. This makes the game go faster by continuously running the clock, thus limiting the amount a team gets beat by.In basketball when a team continues to press another team that they are clearly over matching this creates turnovers and tends to stop the clock thus slowing the game down. This also allows the team doing the pressing to score more points thus the margin of victory is greater.After the lesson can you explain how you equate the two? The one is an attempt to speed the game up by utilizing a running clock. Thus limiting the number of opportunities Bellevue had to score. Because if they wanted to Bellevue would have scored 100 with Buckler going over 500 yards. The other an attempt to score as many points possible and humiliate your opponent. Classy?:ohbrother:

As a Bellevue parent I completely agree with rockstar. As a football fan Buckler played very little after half time.

I don't know if he is the absolute best player in the Commonwealth. I do know he is the best offensive player on the best team in the Commonwealth. IMO. Name recognition counts. I'm not talking about his either. Highlands They do a great job promoting their kids.

Follow the post back? You quoted my post commenting on another post as to why he wasn't a leading candidate for Mr. Football. Don't get me wrong I think he may be one of the best if not the best football players in Kentucky. But I think it is an award about who had the best season, and partially who had the biggest impact on their team. He had an average season as far as stats and Highland wins with or with out him. Some of the other candidates teams I would say probably not.

Excuse me Hoosierbirdfan! I should have said to my understanding. AC gets plenty of accolades. Great kid. Great talent. I would think after getting Army All American the Highlands contingent would let it drop.

If it were about the best player in the state your may possibly be right. My understanding is it's about the player that had the best year.

Can't stop thinking about this young man and what his family and friends must be going through. Wanted to add my prayers for all.

From Bellevue: Ricky Buckler RB, DB, Punt Return, Kickoff Return, Kicker 2851 yards rushing this year 42 rushing TD this year Ended his career with his name going to be on the list of 10 Kentucky State Records. Hasn't received as much notice state wide as a lot of kids with lesser numbers but his numbers are unbelievable considering he never leaves the field and everyone on the other team knows he will getting the ball.

Don't count the Tigers out. First game of the year against Dayton, you just never know. OK on paper Dayton's supposed to be better but Let's play Ball and see what happens. Good Luck to coach Menefee and his Tigers. His first game as the Head Coach, couldn't ask for a bigger rivalry. Bellevue 62 Dayton 61 Mikey Young hits two Free Throws with no time on clock to win it!

I think AC is definitely ND material. I personally believe he has such tremendous potential. Look at how versatile the kid is. All-State Sophomore year at DB, All-State Jr. year at receiver All-American Sr. year. From what I understand an outstanding student. All around good kid. No doubt IMO if BK does take the ND job he at least talks to AC.

I think you have answered part of your own question. He very well may be the best player in the state. But he didn't have the best year individually in the state. Two different awards with two different sets of criteria. The best player doesn't always get all the awards. The awards AC is getting are very well deserved but his numbers don't justify getting an award for the best year. Do you think Highlands would have won state rather he played or not? I'm guessing you probably do. Do you think SK would have went as far as they did if not for Miles? I'm guessing probably not. AC is a tremendous football player with all the ability to do great things. But due to circumstances he didn't have the best year of anyone in the state.

Ricky Buckler 2851 yards in 13 games. Not saying he should be Mr. Football just making the point about stats. A lot on here are quoting stats. I'm thinking they are but one small part. He played for the school where he lives he played the competition you have to in district and all non district games are against bigger schools. Then some hold it against the kid. Some voters will tell you they weren't able to see each player nominated. From the way it is actually judged it is a popularity contest among the best players in the state championship games. If that is what it comes down to I'm OK with that. I just wish someone would post all the criteria for Mr. Football. Miles Simpson gets my vote. If I had one that is. He is the best running back I've seen since Shaun Alexandria and we all know how that turned out.

It can't be just stats. The state leading rusher not even considered.

I don't believe in going by just stats either. How do you keep politics out when the people who vote don't get the opportunity to see most of the kids play?

Great player with tremendous potential. Didn't have the numbers to receive awards based on this years stats due to injury. Awards that are judged on ability or career stats he should be a lock. I've ask in several threads what the criteria for Mr. Football or All-State is and no one seems to know or is willing to share.

As the post season awards start coming out I was just wondering how political do you think they are? How much of a difference does it make if your from a football prominent school? Should the kids who's team didn't make it far into the play off be penalized with lack of recognition? Since most voters don't see each kid play should they go strictly by stats? Just some thoughts. What do you think?

I'm not sure but I always thought that Mr. Football was decided on regular season performance. Does anyone know for sure what the criteria is?
