Seems more open this year than in past. Any of top 10 teams wouldn't be a surprise. I think if Cov. Cath doesn't have a let down and get beat early they win it all. They tend to play a little to the competition. A good thing when your playing a good team. Not so good when your playing a lesser team. Going to be exciting year IMO.

With all due respect to Connor it's not like he shut the Tigers down the first game. The five errors the Tigers had in the field is what beat them. At the plate from what I can remember Bellevue hit the ball hard, but it was one of those games every ball was hit right at someone. Should be a better game this time around.

I would hope if the coach said walk him he would. He seems like a smart good kid and I'm sure he would do the best thing for the team.

If Bertke pitches Beechwood will be right in the game. He is a good pitcher and a fine young man.

Boone 8 - 4 Don't think Smith or Bertke will pitch very long if at all.

TOG while you do a great job keeping and posting the stats for CCH I don't believe anyone one here on Bluegrass Preps post the stats in such detail for Bellevue. Therefor it would be hard if not impossible to say based upon the Stats posted that your statement about walks is true. I'm sure even you can't believe Jones wasn't walked one time in these games.:confused:

Only having to win two games to win district is a good thing for Newport this year. They are capable of win two in a row with the pitching they have. They have steadily improved this year. It is obvious why they would want to draw for seeding. Look at Bellevue and Dayton's records over the last 10 years and it becomes obvious why they would also.

Connor definitely deserves to be in the conversation. I like everything about the kid including the way he handles himself. Good pitcher, good hitter and great kid.

No doubt. He is very capable when he is on.

Do you think if Highlands put on a freshman team the kids that need to be on it will be rather than go with the football program. I think it will more than likely be mostly kids that don't play football. Nothing wrong with that but most really good athletes at Highlands are going to play football. With some exceptions (Sam Liget, Chris Rizzo) that come to mind.

Football will always be king and that spring break trip is a deal breaker.

Please quote me where I said he should get POY? But should he be in the conversation? Yes he definitely deserves to be. Point being I feel like his numbers would be even better if he were on a team of CCH caliber, where it is tough to pitch around a player or two because of the great players around them. I think a great player on an average team tends to try do more to win games. My vote at this point, if I had to go with just one, would go to Maile because the numbers between him and Darner appear as though they will even out by years end and Maile has proven he can do it year end and year out. Hey I'm all for Tri POY. They all deserve it. But if we are going to have a conversation of who the best baseball player in NKY is and then you feel like Hunter Jones isn't in the conversation I would question what you are basing that on? IMO it is easier to put up big numbers when surrounded by a group of great players. Not taking any thing away from the CCH players they are all great players on a team of very good players.

Thought Cooper had a nice team. They never quit and had great spirit. I liked the way they played as a team and kept trying to pick each other up. Coach Bienger (?) is doing a great job with a new young program. Watch out in years to come they will be a program to contend with.

Thompson has done a great job when called upon for the tigers this year.

Stories like that and kids like Luke are what make this game of high school baseball so great.

While I was just putting out food for thought I do agree about RBI's and OBP. However I don't think a POY can have a bad/poor glove. It's not the batter of the year it the player of the year which would insinuate all around player. Which Maile has been the last two years.

What is your criteria for POY? Would like to here different opinions. 1. batting average 2. fielding percentage 3. base running ability 4. over all talent 5. value to team Just a few for thought.

While I understand your argument you may want to look at the other side before making up your mind. While CCH players see better teams Bellevue has gotten to the point where the teams they play use their best pitcher against them. The players on CCH also have team mates behind them who are very good hitters as where Hunter has some very quality players on his team (Alex Hegge who hits after him and others) but not the depth that CCH has though out the line up. This allows teams to pitch around Hunter who at times gets frustrated and will chase a bad pitch. This out of desire to contribute to his teams efforts. So while CCH players may see more top caliber teams they also see more quality pitches to hit as well. None of the kids mentioned would be a bad choice for POY just gets down to what player of year really is. Is it the player who means most to his team or is it the most talented player. Some like to judge it by team he is on and their record.

I believe this was tong in cheek, referring to the squeeze by Highlands which Bellevue botched and allowed not only the runner from third to score but the runner on second to score as well.

I'm glad were not playing basketball, if indeed that was your interpretation of what happened. The pitcher was definitely rattled and was having trouble throwing strikes. The Bellevue bench was excited and cheering their batter on. Not once did they use the pitchers name or yell directly at him. Give credit where credit is due. Bellevue didn't have their best defensive game going but They were able to over come it and win the game. Give the Birds credit they never quit, scoring 8 runs should win most games.
