  1. I think the rule is that if no certified teachers apply then they can hire a non-teacher or something like that. I have seen it mentioned before.
  2. Oh ok. So will a current head coach go after this job?
  3. Will a current head coach look to take this job or does an assistant coach get hired?
  4. But do programs like these want up and coming coaches or coaches that have proven that they can build something? I guess money talks and the topic is for another thread!
  5. Only played football for 2 years I think. Not very good.
  6. That one is very funny. I am still chuckling reading it. Hopefully, that person was not serious in that statement, but you never know about people. I think you hit the nail on the head about just having great players doesnt mean championships or success. I have always stated, without a good coach, hard work, and support great players alone won't win. What I am trying to say is no matter how great a coach is, you cant win championships with 5 foot nothing, 100 nothing players. You have to have a few great athletes mixed in with average athletes while utilizing hard work and great coaching.
  7. I guess the two that made the First Team CJ all-state team were just average athletes! And the two others that made second team and honorable mention.
  8. You need a few to win championships. Tell me which teams this year that won a state title didnt have a few of those on their team? Maybe not 6' 200 with 4.5 speed but similar.
  9. I doubt that will be enough to live on.
  10. I am using those examples to prove a point. Not using specific players!
  11. A program can turn average players into better players, but you can never manufacture talent. You can't make a kid go from being 5'5" 140 pounds with a 6 flat 40, into being 6' 200 pounds with a 4.5 40.
  12. I didnt want a step by step work out, but rather was trying to make the point that a lot of teams in Kentucky do a similar offseason program. It is more than just working harder or doing more. It has more to do with the players/talent, tradition, and culture of the school. As someone previously noted being a highlands football player starts when a kid is 10 years old or younger. That doesnt happen at most places. Also, highlands has several players that can start on any team in the state of kentucky. Not many places can make that claim. Yes, other teams might have more students in the school, but how many of them are football players? If you dont have talent, its hard to win at a high level. You cant take a 5'5" kid that cant bench 100 pounds or break a 7 flat 40 and turn him into a 6'1 kid that benches 350 pounds and runs a 4.5 40. All you can do is take that 5'5" kid and have him get better. Also 75 Center, I am not saying Mueller is not a great coach. You have to know a thing or two to accomplish what he has, but you stick him someplace like Bracken County, Jenkins, Phelps, Atherton, Iroquois, Owen County, etc.. He wouldnt have a winning season, at least not for several years.
  13. For one, I am pretty sure Highlands and South were in the same district a couple of years ago. My son only started playing 2 years ago, so I am not exactly sure, but I did see that south only lost to Highlands by 1 point several years ago. Now, the biggest thing I see as a parent is the culture of the school and parents. My son would come home complaining about how tired he was and didnt know if he wanted to keep playing and I would tell him to keep working and he would get paid back later. I saw it over and over, parents going to the coaches basically saying they were working their sons too hard. The school itself promotes no sports. My son was talking about a the 1 pep rally they had, so I asked him what they did to get pumped up about the game and he said that it was a school wide pep rally. Everybody from football, soccer, band, cross county, etc were honored. What a joke! Also, the most talented player on Souths team probably would only start special teams and be a back up on O or D. Talent makes a difference. Having 1 or 2 division 1 players really helps out also. I am not on here trying to knock Highlands or other great teams, but actually just wanting their fans to understand that there are hundreds of other teams working just as hard as their team during the offseason, summer, and season and it doesnt always relate into the success the dominant power have year in and year out. It has a lot to do with the culture of the school, parents, and talent. Its not about the X's and O's as much as the Jimmys and Joes.
  14. Another great, educated comment.
  15. There is that same quote. Nobody can say what they are doing, but it is more intense and better than everybody else. So when somebody is doing more days or hours than you, you resort too, "well its not the time, its what you do during that time." If I had said that a team only worked out 3 days a week for an hour a day, then the comment would have been "they work our 3 days a week for 3 hours a day." You can't win with you simplistic commenting people. If you want to post actually workouts and drills, then I can debate this subject, but if you are just going to hide behind the same old comments of "they just work harder" "their workouts are more intense" "its not how long, but what is done" Then you can stay in your fantasy world!
  16. You gotta be kidding me. Instead of saying, "wrong on just about every point made" give me some examples! Don't just say you are wrong I am right. We are not in elementary school anymore. Lets look at examples. My son was a senior for South Oldham this year, so know a little bit about what they do. Last offseason they lifted weights and did off-season conditioning 4 days a week, 2 hours a day. Everyday they did weight lifting, some type of plyometric drills, football technique specific drills, and plenty of chalk talk. Does Highlands, Trinity, St. X, etc work 5 days a week in the offseason, for 4 hours a day? If so, I am wrong. Now, give me your examples instead of saying I am wrong. Lets have an educated argument here, instead of school yard chatter!!!!
  17. I am tired of hearing that Highlands, Trinity, St. X, all practice so much more and work so much harder than everybody else. The majority of the high school teams in Kentucky all do offseason programs that are very similar. They do weight lifting, conditioning, plyometrics, drills work, chalk talk, etc. Everybody needs to get off their high horse and quit talking about how these select teams (Highlands, Trinity, etc) work so much harder and do so much more. Now, do some teams not do as much? I am sure, but there are no secrets in off season conditioning. There are no secret practice methods that they utilize. No secret plays they use. Put Highlands, Trinity, St X coaches at other schools and they don't win state championship or even have winning seasons.
  18. Wonder how long that will take? It would be ashame for the players on the team, if the hiring took a long period of time.
  19. A try out fee sounds silly!
  20. What is the previous glory for Greenup Co football? I don't know anything about the program, so I am just inquiring to see about previous records, championships, etc.
  21. Would make since. Most coaches just don't resign and search the job market, they usually already have something lined up.
  22. Has Mike Jones from Estill Co taken a job somewhere else?
  23. Pretty sure that if a student is hard up financially, they can work something out or let him fund raise his fee.
  24. I think it was just his opinion that he doesnt believe he as turned things around at Holmes. Just like it is probably your opinion that he has! Everybody on here is so quick to bash people for their opinions instead of having a civil argument on why its their opinion. Provide examples, demonstrate why you think this or that, instead of saying "thats an uneducated comment" Can't we all just get along!:thumb:
