  1. Wow--Could we see a Anderson-EC rematch on Thr nite?? 16th was the last ball out last year and again this year. Could we see a Holmes-Scott Co. rematch in the quarters on Friday nite?? Will any of these teams even be there?? Agree-7th appears to be the happiest of the power regions right now, with their toughest opponent probably being the opening game vs. the 13th region. I was hoping not to see 7-9-11 until Sat nite, but Sat morning is second best scenario. Top bracket (Wed afternoon) appears to be the weakest quad bracket. EC could see re-match's against AC, GRC, or Shelby Valley in their quad.
  2. Region 1 Murray-512 Region 2 Lyon Co.-345 Region 3 Edmonson Co.-637 Region 4 Clinton Co.-421 Region 5 Bardstown-534 Region 6 Shawnee-615 Region 7 Whitefield Academy-198 Region 8 Henry Co.-667 Region 9 NCC-462 Region 10 Calvary Christian-164 Region 11 Lexington Christian-447 Region 12 Danvillle-548 Region 13 Pineville-181 Region 14 Hazard-307 Region 15 Shelby Valley-593 Region 16 Elliott Co.-337 Since I graduated from Burgin--I wouldn't call Henry Co., Shawnee, and Edmonson County small schools.
  3. What makes his achievement even more remarkable to me is that Elliott never has been a one man team. They have 4 other starters who are excellent top flight players who are capable of putting up big numbers. Evidenced by the fact that Ethan and Timmy have both had 31 point games this year and Evan has had high to mid 20 games including MVP at Myrtle Beach and Chris has scored in the high teens on several occasions. With Elliott pick your poison because you never know from who and how many it is coming from. When they play hard, good defense, shoot half way respectful, and play as a team they are one hard team to contend with. Replace shoot half way respectful with shoot real well and you are up against a juggernaut!!!
  4. thanks spindoc. I knew you would come through:dancingpa
  5. Nice article on Ferg in the Friday Jan. 30th edition of the Ashland Daily Independent this morning. Can one of the high tech, highly intelligent, and extremely efficient MODs please put up the link for this low tech, half blind can't see the keyboard, one finger pecking member. I would learn how to do it, but have that disease called CRS (can't remember squat). Thank you before I forget.
  6. Corbin is still a Top 10 team IMO after this loss. Big rivalry game here and Corbin won the first 2 games this year by 10 & 18 points. Do the math and Corbin has still out scored SL by 20 points in the three games. By the way, why are they playing 3 regular season games against one another?? Was one of the games a tournament game??
  7. June Buchanan (86) and Whitefield Academy (198) both have the smallest enrollments. But, they are private schools and it doesn't reflect on the district base that a public school has to draw from. Don't want to get in the public vs. private debate here, but it is like comparing apples to oranges. On the other hand, Paris (209) and Monticello (234) reflects how small their district base is. Paris and Monticello also have county schools in Bourbon and Wayne. Elliott (337) is the one and only high school in the entire county. In other words no such thing as Sandy Hook HS and a Elliott County HS as you have in Bourbon (Paris) and Wayne (Monticello) Counties.
  8. Always thought Corbin was small enough to be an All A Basketball team, but I guess not. I looked up their enrollment and was surprised that they have 706students in grades 9-12. Yet they are 2A in football and Sheldon Clark with 628 students in 9-12 is 3A in football. Doesn't add up?? Maybe use 10-12 grade numbers for football classes, but shouldn't make that big a difference one would think as all classes would be about the same size??
  9. Congrads to the Lady Dragons on making the championship game. I predicted after the Elliott win that they would make the finals. They should give LCA a good game on Sunday. Like I said, Frosh PG Micah Jones is one of the top freshman in the state and now has 60 points in their 3 tournament wins. Way to go Lady Dragons who have a fine record at 17-3 and a real good team.
  10. I think Shelby Valley should be up from #12 to somewhere between the 5-8 spots. Corbin well deserves to be somewhere in those 5-8 spots also. Might be a little bias toward the mountain teams. One thing for sure they are both Top 10 teams with nice clubs. Seventh has 6 or 7 teams in the Top 20, but only one will make the Top 16 come March 18th. Almost the same dilema in the 11th. There may only be 8 (at most with no upsets and there will probably be one or two upsets) Top 20 teams in the final 16 come March 18th??
  11. The Agriculture Dept. tried an experiment of planting trees in asphalt of the Alumni Coliseum parking lot and it failed. Seemed digging in asphalt proved to be futile. I parked there last night and didn't see any trees anywhere close, just some cars and a lot of blacktop. For those that haven't been there that parking lot is huge and maybe the size of 2-3 football fields.:jump: As a student at EKU (way back) good that there was no trees in the parking lot or we might have ran straight into them on some walks back to campus.
  12. I think it is funny that someone put on here that Ferg is a 6'1" forward. Maybe a 6'1.5" wing player would be more correct or just plain and simple a 6'1.5" basketball player. It has been interesting to listen to all the pre-game line-up announcements for Elliott this year. Most common by the PA announcers is to say C.Knipp, Ferg, Falk twins as guards and T. Knipp as a forward. But, I remember one PA man announcing all of the starting five as guards. Really have heard all kinds of combinations by the various PA announcers. If that is the case then can a team with five guards or four guards and a forward advance deep in March?? We are about to find out before too long!!!
  13. Congrats to Green County who has a nice team. I think they may just make the finals against LCA and give them a pretty good game. #5 Micah Jones has to be one of the best freshman in the state. Very impressive point guard with great leadership for a freshman. Also, Meg Hartsfield shot the lights out from outside and hit big three after big three. The 5th region is loaded with E-Town, North Hardin, Nelson Co., and Marion Co. but the darkhorse has to be this Green County bunch who at 16-3 have a nice record and are fundamentally very sound.
  14. Here is hoping they play a 2-3 zone (at least for a while). They may have to re-think the strategy after a short time. Also now with the new format the bottom bracket gets no rest after the SF game at 10:00 on Sunday morning. At least the top bracket gets 4.5 hours of break where as the bottom bracket will turn around and play about 2 hours after finishing their SF game. Elliott doesn't have a lot of depth and that could be a real factor in the final should they even get there. At least in the State Tournament in March you get at least about 6-7 hours of rest before playing the final and NOT 2 HOURS.
  15. If I remember correctly there was a kid who played at Mason County that at this same time in his senior season seemed shunned by the UKs and ULs of the world who ended up having a pretty good career at Tennessee. I also remember folks saying he was too short to play D-1 ball. Ferg may be a half inch shorter than him which for all intents in purpose puts them in the same situation. I saw Lofton play 25+ times in HS and Ferg is much the same type player with the same shooting range. I think the parallels between the two are striking. Another Mason County grad named Ronny Lyons was only 5'10" and had a pretty good career at UK. IMO his unlimited range, jumping ability, and quick release negate the height issues and concerns. Much like Lofton though the big schools seem to think the height is an issue. But much like Lofton the one school that gets over this hurdle will find Ferg and he will land in the right place just like Mr. Lofton did. Again, I think the parallels between the two are striking.
  16. It is now 11:50AM. Are the girl's first round still tiping off at Noon?? I was wanting to see the Elliott Girl's play tonight. Even if they tip at Noon that game probably wouldn't tip until 9:30PM or so (original time 8:00PM). Does anyone have any updates on their decision to start or not??
  17. It is 6:15AM. I would assume the girl's will tip off this morning at 9:00AM??No weather delays?? Can someone give us an update before 8:00AM. Thanks as we had more ice last night.
  18. I assume the girl's kick off at 9:00AM this morning as scheduled?? That is just under 3 hrs. from now. Can someone give us the latest before 8:00AM?? Thanks.
  19. Heck I would get season tickets also. It would cut my drive from 127 miles (Sandy Hook) to 95 miles (Morehead) one way which would be a piece of cake. I have to quit being so hard on myself in regards to Ferg's shooting. He can hit 8 of 12 three pointers and somehow I think he should have been 11-12 which is unrealistic. But he has such a beautiful release and form that they all look good when they leave his hand. And Ferg showed with his rebounding against Rose Hill that he can really jump. That jumping ability and quick release makes that long range jumper very effective. One other note: Haven't seen Morehead play, but if they have somebody that can out shoot Ferg let me know and I will stop by and see a game on my way to Sandy Hook..........
  20. Very puzzling to me. :idunno::confused: MSU is just a few miles down the road and you would think they would be knocking the door down. Maybe they live inside a bubble and never heard of him. Nice try--I really don't know what they are thinking and maybe they are just not thinking!! It seems to me for some strange reason that they like loading up with out of state players. Probably one of the reasons I haven't been to a MSU game since Leonard Coulter of Danville played there.
  21. I am no doubt an avid Elliott out of town supporter. But what gets me is the opinion of some on here who think that a few teams are untouchable and they are #1 and everybody else is well behind that. Anybody can go down on a given night and by the most unlikely opponent. To the Holmes supporters--You should be #1 in my opinion. That is honest humility believe you me coming from my fingers. Notice I didn't say you couldn't be beat. Your strength of schedule coupled with quality wins gives you the right to say we are #1 (right now). Doesn't automatically write anyone in on Saturday night in Rupp. Bible says, "Pride comes before a fall". We would all do good to remember that including us Elliott folks. Also good to remember that anytime you point a finger you have 4 more pointing back at yourself that are more dangerous than the one pointing the other way.
  22. Was at the game last night and first of all in the spirit of great competetion my congrads to the Morgan County Cougars on a great game. Dale and I have said it before and that anybody can be beat on a given night. It is not living in the real world to think you are going to have a 30-50 point blow out every single night. A handful of teams in the 16th are playing real good basketball right now and bringing their A+ games and hitting that Big X on Elliott's jersey. This will prove beneficial in the long run for the Elliott kids who need to be challenged and know that they must bring it or else. Turning point in my opinion was when Ferg hit two back to back treys from long range that turned a single digit lead into a double digit lead. He had a third attempt that fell ever so short that would have blown the roof off. At that point the roof was shaking anyway. Elliott did not shoot FTs real well and Morgan it seems hit them all. But top quality teams find a way to win when it seems all odds are stacked against them. In the paper today it will still say Elliott County 17-1 and 5-0 in the district. SIDE NOTE: This was the 20th straight district win for Elliott County. Last loss was on December 19th, 2006 which was a one point loss to East Carter. They came back on January 2d, 2007 and avenged that loss with a 21 point win.
  23. Ferg joins an elite club of only 30 players to score 3,000 points in his career. Some of these on the records books date back to the early 50s. Bert Greene's 16th region record has stood over 50 years and will go down shortly by this young man. I have to agree with Gary Ball's (Scholastic Ball Report on WKYT-TV) statement that he is the most prolific scorer in the state of Kentucky. Also, it is just super that he happens to be a great young man who is so humble and likeable to be around. Young man has a great spirit, positive attitude, and is a polite young man. That is refreshing in these times!!! Congrads to Ferg on a monumental achievement. Young man you have many successess to follow. We all love ya Ferg and are so proud of you!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DALE!!! IN THE HEAT OF THE GAME I FORGOT LAST NIGHT.
  24. Best of Luck to those Mountain Teams--Hazard, Shelby Valley, and Elliott County. They will make some noise in EKU McBrayer Arena this week!!!
  25. Key for EC is shooting %. Their loss to Cedar Hills they shot 31% and in the OT win over Anderson they shot 36%. When they shoot over 40% they are hard to beat. If they shoot 50% then is almost impossible. Only exception was Southside which they won by 9 on 38% shooting, but that was offset with 12-31 treys made for 38.7% shooting.
