A perfect example of why coaches can't always trust game film; I am watching Gilman play Moeller. Gilman has an Elite 11 QB, but their coach runs a single wing. I can not get a great read of what he projects as a QB from this film. I can see his abilities at a camp like Elite 11. This kid is going to Maryland next year because of camps, not game film, IMO.

Two things: 1. Not sure if this changes your opinion, but Carthage regularly draws 10,000+ every game- 6500 seats and everyone else stands. 2. I would bet this was a donation of funds to the booster club for this specific purpose, so those funds could not be reallocated to educational programs. I am not sure, but I would be shocked if this was not the case.

As a football coach in Texas, I do not know any school that has boosters supplement salary. I can not say for certain that it does not happen, but no school in DFW, Houston or any private school does this. Maybe out in West Texas; I am unfamiliar with how they run their programs. Most football coaches in Texas are AD's, so this is how they get big salaries because that is an administrative position. Southlake Carroll has a Director of Football operations position for their head coach, so this person manages football from youth to varsity and makes six figures. I think St. X can make a similar administrative position model work for them and get a coach from a national search, but it sounds like that will not happen.

This is all in how you frame the idea of pay. I can guarantee that they can pay very competitively if they pay the coach consitent to what administrators are paid at St. X. Hire an AD/ Football coach (not sure what the AD situation is at St. X). This is what is done in Texas to increase they payscale for coaches. Make the coach an assistant principal; they have several at St. X. This will make the position competitive in terms of pay nationally while maintaining their pay standard. If the goal is to hire a coach on the cheap, then beware. You tend to get what you pay for when you try to do things on the cheap in a school. JMO.

I hope that they open a national search. I was asked about this opening by a coach in Texas. they would do well if they went national with this search. There are firms they could hire to help them manage it, even. I think they could make a huge splash with this hire if they managed it well.

I think it would be difficult to pry him away- he already leads a program with a similar profile to X and I bet they pay coaches more in Georgia than in Kentucky.

Camps and combines weigh heavily in recruiting decisions. Whatever a coach can see with his own eyes, he will trust more than film. The environment is controlled at a camp or combine as well, so I can get a good read on a player's ability at these events. So many factors go into high school games that coaches may not have accurate information on, that it can be hard to trust the film. Many players make position switches when they get to college, coaches may be ignorant to level of competition and game film may not showcase all of a players talents. Game film is a significant factor as well, but I think combine and camp performances weigh more heavily in the mind of coaches. As a player, I never received a scholarship offer after a game, but I did get several at camps. JMO.

I can't imagine a scenario where BGP Nation would be negative about this hire. This is a high profile program, nationally. They should be able to pick from a great list of coaches.

SHDHS lists cheer as a part of girls athletics on their website. While I agree with you in principle, there is no arguing how they choose to classify the sport. So, if having a corresponding sport based on gender is a requirement, they could add football and fulfil that requirement. Playing devil's advocate, there is nothing stopping a female from going out for football either.

Good. I agree with you that administration may have to change to get football at St. Henry's. While I do not think he is anti football, I do think he has to be convinced that the school could introduce football successfully from all aspects before he would offer his support, including everything I have mentioned in my previous posts.

According to their website, SHDHS has boys volleyball. The only sport with no boys equivalent is cheer.

I am not sure if there is a requirement for a private school to do this, but St. Henry's already has more girl sports, 12, than boys sports, 11, according to their website. Cheerleading has no male equivalent right now at SHDHS.
