For a stadium that only seats 6,000, ya that's pretty stupid.

Two things:

 

1. Not sure if this changes your opinion, but Carthage regularly draws 10,000+ every game- 6500 seats and everyone else stands.

2. I would bet this was a donation of funds to the booster club for this specific purpose, so those funds could not be reallocated to educational programs. I am not sure, but I would be shocked if this was not the case.
