Is the district seeded if the votes are 2-2 or does it take a 3-1 vote to seed?

I would strongly advise coming down on Feb 29nd (assuming they both will make it). It is always an intense battle not only among the teams but among the fans as well. Kind of reminds me of Carolina/ Duke. The intensity is so fierce that the game is normally not pretty but still very entertaining. Yeah, I'm sure a lot of communities think their rivalry is the best.

I don't think any other rivalry can exceed GRC v Montgomery although some may match the intensity.

12th is stronger at the top with Lincoln Co.

A great defender. He is the reason the Indians have managed to keep it close agaisnt the Royals twice this year and beat GRC twice. He guarded Darius Miller and Robbie Stenzel and required only a little help. Last year he gave a valiant effort guarding Preston Knowles. He can guard people on the inside and outside as evidenced by his good job on Miller in the last meeting with the Royals.

He is an excellent young man.

I'm pretty sure the 10th is on Sunday. I think it is like last year when some regions will finish on Saturday and others not until Tuesday. I'm hopeing to catch the 10th, 11th, 16th and maybe 6th and 7th finals.

I agree, from 95 on I would have to pick Scott Co. Even though that foul agaisnt Tilghman in the semis was a little controversial, but that's for a different thread all together.

My vote for the top program in the state based on two factors: 1. I have been following KY high school basketball since 95 so the team I pick will obviously have to have done well from 95-present. 2. I also want to give some credit to past hisory so I will also look at performace before 95 even though I am heavily weighing performance after 95. Okay that being said in my opinion I am going to go with the Ballard Bruins. They have made four sweet 16's since 95 including one title and two 2nd place finishes. Also they won titles in 77 and 88 and finished 2nd in 87. They produced a solid NBA player in Allan Houston. Also they have made 12 trips to the state tournament while playing in the brutal 7th region. So that is my pick, Ballard.

The same can be said for Mason County. In the last fifteen years they had one good run (the Chris Lofton era). Paintsville also had one good run (the Tackett, Vanhoose era). The bottom line is since 95 Mason only made the tournament one time outside of the Lofton era. That was in 06 when the made they made the quarters.

If you are like me you take great pride in Ky teams doing well nationally. Scott Co. has finished in the USA Today Super 25 twice (1998 #21 and 1999 #16). Lex Cath twice (1998 #17, 2002 #10). Also Ballard and Male have once both in 2001 (Ballard #16 and Male #14). As an aside I don't know how Scott Co. didn't make the Super 25 last year with only two losses, a state crown, and a win over Mayo, Patterson and Company agaisnt Huntington, WV.

Thanks. Yeah I kind of forgot about Paintsville, too until I started doing some research. Looks like the Tigers may be returning to Rupp this year for the first time in a while!

Ok, I got my hands on more information. Since 95 here is the following breakdown among the six teams mentioned above: Scott Co 7 trips to Rupp WC 6 Ballard, Mason, Lex Cath, Paintsville 4 So I am going to give 1/2 point for a 1st or 2nd round loss. Warren Central 1.5 points Mason Co 1 point Scott Co 1 point Paintsville 0.5 points Ballard 0.5 points Lex Cath 0 points I also am going to give Ballard and Lex Cath 1.5 points because they have been in brutal regions since 95. No offense to the 4th, 10th, 8th, and 15th but I think everyone agrees that it is harder to make it in the 7th and 11th regions. Because Scott Co has only been in the 11th three years I am not going to give them any bonus points. Finally, I am going to give .5 points for a Mr. Basketball. Scott Co had 2 (Jones, Hundley), Mason Co. had 1 (Lofton) and Painsville had 1 (Vanhoose). Here are the results so far: Scott Co. 12 Ballard 9 Lex Cath 8.5 Warren Central 7.5 Paintsville 7 Mason Co. 6.5 If I think of anything else I will add it. Suggestions?

I will continue to update as I get more information but here is what I have so far. I started with the 94-95 season because that is when I started attending the state tournament on a regular basis and following basketball. Since that time period ( keep in mind that semis = losses in semis, not total semis made) ... You get 1 point for semis lost, 2 for runner up, 3 for title Scott Co - 2 titles, 1 runnerup, 2 semis 10 points Ballard - 1 title, 2 runnerup 7 points Lex Cath - 1 title, 1 runnerup, 2 semis 7 points Warren Central - 1 title, 1 runnerup, 1 semi 6 points Paintsville - 1 title, 1 runnerup, 1 semi 6 points Mason Co - 1 title, 1 runnerup 5 points When I get more time I will look up total tournaments made in that time period and give 1/2 a point if you make the tournament but lose in the 1st or 2nd round. Also I may give 2 bonus points to Ballard and Lex Cath because they are in the toughest regions year in and year out and I may give Scott Co. 1 bonus point because they have spend some time in the 11th region. I'm trying to come up with an objective system to not include any bias. Also I need help - Who lost in the semis in 95? Who lost in the semis in 96 besides Lex Cath, and who lost in the semis in 97 besides Paintsville? Thoughts?

Are all games at GRC? I went to KHSAA scoreboard and it says GRC hosts but on the khsaa site if you click on basketball and then district tournament information, district site selection it says Montgomery is the host? If it got moved from MCHS to Clark does anyone know why?

Finally the voice of reason comes through on BGP. I heard the same silly argument last year when GRC beat Mason Co in the region finals. I mean that is like saying that because the Patriots won the turnover battle in the super bowl and lost the game there is no correlation ever between winning the turnover battle and winning a game.

How does one game make a universal rule? So, for example if the Spurs beat the Grizzlies in Memphis that proves their is no home court advantage?

I haven't seen Holmes play this year but a lot of people are saying they are better than they were last year. Considering how Holmes was very good last year and that they had one of the best defensive teams in the state I would put them in the discussion among the state's top teams IF that statement is true.

There is a UK signee that is ranked #45 by rivals.com on Mason County. I have seen Mason play and I would argue that Miller's D is just as good as his offense. Gillespie doesn't recruit kids unless they are solid on defense. You are losing credibility by saying Downing is better than Miller at defense. I don't care if it is on the ball, off the ball, in the paint or on the perimeter.

Scott County beat Mason and Mason beat Station. Station and Scott split. Mason and Lex Cath split. Lex Cath has just been destroying good teams lately, just ask Dunbar. Mason has had close calls w/ Madison Central and Montgomery. Scott Co. is coming off a 19 point win against the #1 team. 1. Lex Cath 2. Scott Co 3. Mason Co. (lost to Scott Co @Fieldhouse) 4. Blaine Stull had a great game. He handled the pressure well and had 22 points and 8 rebounds. Brandon Rash gave his usual great defensive effort agaisnt Miller. Too bad Rash fouled out. Maybe they can draw and analogy to the Giants. The Giants didn't beat the Patriots at the end of the regular season but they showed they could hang with them. They ended up winning when it mattered most.
