  1. Definitely Player of the Year. Too bad he won’t get it but have to be careful saying that out loud. Might offend the natives!
  2. Yes someone will be within 15 not that it will ever be in doubt but yes someone will be within 15.
  3. The Breathitt County game has always been on the schedule. Mason County chose not to reschedule the game from last week.
  4. The last time the 11th Region did this was the 07-08 season I believe.
  5. This is a great question. Let’s see beat Robertson County and then play them again at their place in the district or lose and play Pendleton County who by no fault of their own is a shell of what they were in December? What would you do??
  6. I was told was PLD without leading scorer Gadd in this game. Impressive win if that’s true. What’s going on at FD?
  7. Update on today’s 44th District draw. Madison Central vs. Model Madison Southern vs. Berea
  8. This score makes Paris the 4 seed in the district. 1. GRC 2. Montgomery County 3. Bourbon County 4. Paris
  9. A big matchup between the top 2 teams in the region headlined the past week in the 11th Region. Some other top tier teams made statements and District tournament seeds are starting to round into form. At this point its starting to seem like everyone is playing for 2nd Place. Lets get into it! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (25-1) - The Cardinals continue to roll through not only the 11th Region but the entire state of Kentucky. Facing possibly their toughest in state test in a month the Cardinals did not disappoint as they handled Henry Clay by 21 points. The game was really never in doubt after the 1st quarter thanks largely in part to Glenn Covington pouring in 33 points including 26 in the first half. The next day Scott County traveled to Lafayette to face off with a top 8th Region team in Walton Verona and easily disposed of them by a score of 74-46. With the return of Michael Moreno looming the only question is, can anyone stop the Cards? This week Scott County hosts Woodford County and Clay County. 2. Henry Clay (20-5) - The Blue Devils remain at #2 despite picking up their first loss in over a month. Early in the week Henry Clay outlasted a tough Madison Central team in overtime before falling at Scott County to end the week. The three headed monster of Hawkins, Brown, and Warrick continue to lead the Blue Devils who in any other year would be a heavy favorite in this region. Up next for Henry Clay they host Paul Laurence Dunbar and travel to Woodford County. 3. Frankfort (19-5) - The Panthers got back to their winning ways this past week picking up 3 wins over Shelby County, Highlands, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Hats off to the Panthers on really bumping up their schedule this season and its paying off. This week is packed full of tests as they host 3 games against Danville, Fern Creek, and Ballard. These games will really show where Frankfort is as the postseason is fastly approaching. 4. Woodford County (17-7) - The Yellowjackets finished the week 1-1 with a win over Shelby County and a head scratching loss to Anderson County at home. Luckily for the Jackets they have locked up the 1 seed in the 41st District. This week Woodford heads to West Jessamine and Scott County in a rematch of the Toyota Classic Championship game where the Jackets fell by 1. 5. Lafayette (16-9) - The Generals have quietly thrust themselves back into the conversation as a Region title contender. This week was HUGE for Lafayette picking up 2 wins over Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian and clinching the 1 seed in the always tough 43rd District. Up next for the Generals are trips to Bryan Station and Trinity. The Generals always pack a tough schedule year after year. 6. Lexington Christian Academy (18-8) - The Eagles dropped their only game this past week at Lafayette and now are in need of some wins this week to avoid the 4/5 game in the 43rd District tournament. If they can win either of their games this week against Tates Creek or away against Lexington Catholic they will clinch the 3 seed. If they were to lose both of those games the Eagles and PLD would be tied for 3rd and a coin toss would be required. 7. Lexington Catholic (12-13) - The Knights had a chance to lock up at least a tie for the 1 seed in the 43rd District this past week but fell in a low scoring close contest to Lafayette early in the week and then took one on the chin at Trinity to end the week. This week Lexington Catholic will travel to Madison Central and host Lexington Christian in a game with big time district seeding implications. 8. Madison Central (12-12) - The Indians finished the week 1-2 with a win over Harrison County, an overtime loss to Henry Clay and a loss on the road at Ballard. Another 11th Region team not afraid to face anyone, the Indians schedule gets no easier this week as they host Lexington Catholic and then travel to Walton Verona in a matchup of the states top two big men in Isaiah Cozart and Deionte Miles. 9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (10-14) - The Bulldogs finished the week 2-1 with wins over Paris, a blowout of Tates Creek, and a 4 point loss to a good Frankfort team. Dunbar continues to improve from a rough patch earl in the season and nobody in the 43rd District wants to see them in their own gym where the district is being held this season. Up next PLD travels to Frederick Douglass and Henry Clay in some tough city matchups. 10. Tates Creek (11-11) - The Commodores were able to snap a long losing streak early in the week by beating Sayre but then got thumped at PLD. A team that maybe peaked early in the year, Tates Creek has taken several steps backward in the last month. This week the Commodores travel to LCA, host Bryan Station, and then end the week at Frederick Douglass. 11. Madison Southern (15-11) - The Eagles went 2-1 this past week with wins over Somerset and East Jessamine and a close loss to Clinton County. Only one game on the schedule for Madison Southern this week as they host a top 10th region team in GRC on Tuesday night. 12. Frederick Douglass (10-15) - The Broncos slide continues as this past week they dropped a game to Bryan Station but did salvage a win over Sayre. Frederick Douglass has now lost 7 of their last 8 games. This week the Broncos host PLD, Tates Creek, and travel north to Newport Central Catholic. 13. Franklin County (11-12) - A tough week for the Flyers as they dropped both of their games this week to Marion County and Conner. Franklin County has locked up the 3 seed in the 41st District and will play Frankfort. This week they host Danville and Frankfort Christian before heading to North Oldham to end the week. 14. Bryan Station (5-17) - The Defenders continue to improve and are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were at the beginning of the season. This past week they went 1-1 with a win over Frederick Douglass and a loss to Knox Central on the road. This week Bryan Station hosts Lafayette then heads to Tates Creek and Boyle County. 15. Model (15-10) - What a great week for the Patriots finishing 4-0! Model picked up wins over Western Hills, Rockcastle County, Whitefield Academy, and Owen County. This week Model will Powell County and Frankfort Christian, two more winnable games for the Patriots. 16. Western Hills (8-15) - The Wolverines finished 1-3 this past week with a win over Estill County and losses to Model, West Jessamine, and Southwestern. This week Western Hills hosts East Jessamine then heads to Nicholas County and Knott County Central. 17. Berea (14-10) - The Pirates picked up 2 wins this week over Nicholas County and St. Patrick and then dropped a game to Robertson County to end the week. This week Berea faces Frankfort Christian, St. Patrick, and Estill County. 18. Sayre (6-18) - The Spartans finished the week 1-2 with a loss to Frederick Douglass and Tates Creek and a win over Nicholas County. Next up the Spartans head to Atherton then host Wolfe County and Bell County.
  10. As we enter the last week of January things are becoming clearer and clearer in the always tough and competitive 11th Region. In a year where most people, including myself, thought the region would be down compared to years past, it has turned out to be quite the exciting season. The district tournament seeds are starting to come into shape and the top teams are preparing for the stretch run! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (23-1) - The Cardinals keep on rolling along despite missing one of the top players in the state of Kentucky in Michael Moreno. This past week the Cardinals picked up two 42nd District wins on the road over Frederick Douglass and Bryan Station. In the victory over Frederick Douglass, Coach Billy Hicks picked up his 1,000th career win. An absolutely amazing accomplishment. Congrats to Coach Hicks on another milestone in an already amazing career. This week provides one of the toughest challenges to date for Scott County as they host Henry Clay. If the Cardinals were to win they would clinch the 1 seed in the district tournament, a loss would me a tie breaker is necessary. Scott County follows up the next day with a game against Walton Verona at the Jock Sutherland Classic hosted by Lafayette. Another solid test for the Cardinals. 2. Henry Clay (19-4) - The Blue Devils are now winners of 7 in a row and playing their best basketball of the season. They finished the past week 2-0 with wins over Trinity and Lafayette. The win over Trinity, a full strength Trinity, proves that Henry Clay can play with and beat any team on any given night. The road gets no easier this week for the Blue Devils they hit the road to Madison Central and then finish the week at Scott County in a game most people in this state should have circled on the calendar. The last meeting between the two teams was a close one with Scott County pulling away down the stretch. This game could quite possibly be the best game in the region this year. 3. Woodford County (16-6) - The Yellow Jackets started the week off win a big win over 8th Region power Collins and then followed that up with an overtime win over Frankfort to lock down the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament. Over the weekend they feel hard to Trinity in a game that was within 3 points at the half. Overall a great week for the Yellow Jackets. This week Woodford County heads to Powell County and Shelby County before returning home to face off with Anderson County in a preview of a new district rivalry next year when they head off to the 8th Region. 4. Lexington Christian Academy (18-6) - What a great week for the Eagles. They headed to Richmond to defend their All A State Championship. Unfortunately, they fell just one game short and lost to University Heights in this afternoon's finals. However, they did pick up wins over Owensboro Catholic, Mayfield, and Walton Verona. The win over Walton Verona might have been one of the more impressive defensive performances of the year, holding the Bearcats to 22 points for the game!! The Eagles head to Christian Academy of Louisville and then end the week with a big road test at Lafayette in a game that has huge 43rd District Tournament seeding implications. 5. Frankfort (16-5) - The Panthers finished the week 1-1 with a win over an improving Madison Southern on the road and an overtime loss at Woodford County. The loss to Woodford County means Frankfort will be the 2 seed in the 41st District Tournament. Three games on the slate this week for the Panthers. First, they will host Shelby County and Highlands before heading across town to Franklin County to play Paul Laurence Dunbar in the Gary Moore Classic. 6. Lexington Catholic (12-11) - Don't look now but the Knights are getting hot at just the right time. Winners of 5 in a row the Knights disposed of Robertson County and Tates Creek this past week. Lexington Catholic is in position to finish as the 1 seed in the 43rd District tournament but this week will either strengthen or weaken that chance. The Knights will host Lafayette early in the week and a win will clinch the 1 seed a loss could result in a 3 seed. Then just to make things more fun they end the week by traveling to Trinity! 7. Lafayette (14-9) - The Generals started the week off by beating 43rd District rival Paul Laurence Dunbar in a much need district seed win, but fell hard to end the week by the hands of Henry Clay. A big week awaits the Generals as they play two 43rd District seeding games, first at Lexington Catholic and then they host Lexington Christian as part of the Jock Sutherland Classic. 8. Madison Central (11-10) - The Indians finished the week 1-1 with a win over Frederick Douglass and a close loss to Trinity. Big man Isaiah Cozart continues to dominate his competition, this week pouring in averages of 21.5 points and 17.5 rebounds. Regardless of the competition or the outcome Mr. Cozart brings it every night. This week the Indians host Henry Clay and Harrison County before heading to Ballard over the weekend. 9. Tates Creek (10-10) - The downward spiral continues for the Commodores after dropping 2 games this week. The losing streak has reached 6 and 7 of the last 8. This week Tates Creek fell to George Rogers Clark and then lost to Lexington Catholic in a game they had the lead most of the 2nd half. The loss to Lexington Catholic ensures the Commodores will once again play in the 4/5 game of the 43rd District Tournament. This week Tates Creek hosts Sayre then hits the road across town to Frederick Douglass and Paul Laurence Dunbar. 10. Frederick Douglass (9-14) - The Broncos are also on a long losing streak, one that has now reached 6, including 4 losses this past week to Madison Central, Beechwood, Scott County, and Simon Kenton. A rough week to say the least. Up next the Broncos host Bryan Station and Tates Creek before heading to Sayre to end the week. 11. Paul Laurence Dunbar (8-13) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Lafayette and a win over Bryan Station. The Bulldogs are kind of up and down right now but a lot of that has to do with the uncertain health of Jared Gadd. By far the Bulldogs best player, if he plays at full strength Dunbar is much better. Up next the Bulldogs host Paris and Tates Creek before heading to Franklin County to play Frankfort as part of the Gary Moore Classic on Saturday. 12. Franklin County (11-10) - The Flyers won their only contest this week with a win over Louisville Collegiate as part of the Hoosier Gym Classic, where participating teams got to play in the gym the famous basketball movie Hoosiers. Up next the Flyers host Marion County, head to Bourbon County, and then host Conner as part of the Gary Moore Classic. 13. Madison Southern (13-10) -The Eagles took a step backward from their play of late by dropping 2 games this week to Frankfort and Cordia. The Eagles host Somerset, travel to East Jessamine, and host Clinton County to complete their week. 14. Bryan Station (4-16) - The Defenders dropped both games this week to Paul Laurence Dunbar and Scott County but are showing signs of improvement. The Dunbar game was close and after 3 quarters against Scott County the Defenders were within one possession. This week Bryan Station heads to Frederick Douglass and Knox Central. 15. Model (11-10) - The Patriots dropped both of their games this past week to Garrard County and Bourbon County. Up next Model plays 4 games this week. They host Western Hills, Rockcastle County, Whitefield Academy, then head to Franklin County to play Owen County in the Gary Moore Classic. 16. Western Hills (7-12) - The Wolverines won both of their games this week over Shelby County and Owen County and are playing much better of late. This week provides 4 games for Western Hills as they head to Model, host Estill County and Southwestern, and then head over to Franklin County to play West Jessamine in the Gary Moore Classic. 17. Sayre (5-16) - The Spartans finished 1-2 on the week with losses to Bryan Station and Breathitt County and a win over home school team Bluegrass United. This week Sayre heads to Tates Creek and Nicholas County and hosts Frederick Douglass. 18. Berea (12-9) - The Pirates finished the week 2-1 with wins over Frankfort Christian Academy and Danville Christian and a loss to Jackson County. This week Berea will play 4 games. They will host Wellspring Guardians and St. Patrick and travel to Nicholas County and Robertson County. GAMES OF THE WEEK Tuesday January 29th Lafayette at Lexington Catholic Henry Clay at Madison Central Friday February 1st Henry Clay at Scott County Madison Central at Ballard Saturday February 2nd Scott County vs. Walton Verona at Jock Sutherland Classic (Lafayette) Lexington Christian at Lafayette
  11. Oh good old Frederick Douglass where the rules don't apply in football. You know whats going to happen though? Not a thing. Anyone that wants to deny what they do or try and defend it just stop. The school was built around a football program, just look at admins from top to bottom. How come no other sport at FD is anywhere close to whats going on in football? Am I a hater? Yea probably but I also call a spade a spade!
  12. Congrats to Coach Hicks!! Say what you want but hes a good man and a great coach.
  13. Another week has come and gone in the 11th Region. Scott County continues there run towards an undefeated state schedule but things are getting closer. The top tier teams in the region are starting to challenge the Cardinals without Moreno. Some shake up in our rankings this week as some teams have shown they are ready for the stretch run. Lets get into it! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (21-1) - The Cardinals hosted the Toyota Classic this past week and finished 3-0 with wins over Myrtle Beach Christian(SC), Trinity Catholic(FL), and Woodford County. In the championship game against Woodford County, the Yellow Jackets had a shot in the air for the win at the buzzer but it fell short. This team is talented but wont reach its true heights without the return of Michael Moreno. Word is Michael got out of his cast this week and is slated to return within the next 2-3 weeks. Up next for Scott County they hit the road to Bryan Station and Frederick Douglass for 43rd District matchups. 2. Henry Clay (17-4) - The Blue Devils finished the week 2-0 with wins over Frederick Douglass and Tates Creek. Marques Warrick and Harris Hawkins continue to lead the Blue Devils. Henry Clay has now won 5 in a row and are looking primed for a run in late February. Two big tests coming up for the Blue Devils. Trinity comes to Lexington early in the week back at full strength and then the Blue Devils head to cross town rival Lafayette to end the week. 3. Woodford County (14-5) - The Yellow Jackets had a big week at the Toyota Classic. They knocked off Lafayette in overtime and then ran through Frederick Douglass in the second round before falling by 2 points to Scott County. Woodford County is playing really well right now. Up next a brutal week with home games against Collins and Frankfort before heading to Trinity over the weekend. 4. Lexington Christian Academy (15-6) -The Eagles silenced a lot of doubters this week by claiming ANOTHER 11th Region All A championship. LCA finished the week 2-0 with wins over Frankfort and Model. The win over Frankfort was a big one over a team who was hot as anyone in the region. This week they head to Richmond for the All A state tournament looking to defend their crown. LCA opens up with Owensboro Catholic. 5. Frankfort (15-4) - The Panthers had a rough week in the 11th Region All A Classic. This was the year the Panthers were going to break through and after an opening round win over Frankfort Christian it was looking that way. Unfortunately, for the Panthers they ran into a hot and ready LCA team and fell hard. Frankfort hits the road this week first to Madison Southern and then to Woodford County. If Frankfort can win at Woodford County they will clinch the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament. 6. Lafayette (13-8) - The Generals finished the week 2-1 at the Toyota Classic in Georgetown. They fell in the opening round in overtime to Woodford County then beat a good Wayne County team and Myrtle Beach Christian(SC). This week the Generals host city rivals Paul Laurence Dunbar and Henry Clay. 7. Madison Central (10-9) - The Indians finished the week 2-0 with wins over 12th Region foes West Jessamine and Lincoln County. Isaiah Cozart continues his fantastic season and leading the Indians. Up next Madison Central heads to Frederick Douglass and Trinity in a big game. 8. Lexington Catholic (10-11) - The Knights finished the week 3-0 with wins over Tates Creek, East Jessamine, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. The wins over Tates Creek and Paul Laurence Dunbar really helped Catholic set themselves up nicely to claim the 1 seed in the district tournament. Dont let the record fool you the Knights are playing good basketball and have won 5 of the last 6 games theyve played. Up next the Knights hit the road to Robertson County and Tates Creek. 9. Tates Creek (10-7) - The Commodores have hit a losing streak lately and need to get it going in the right direction soon before the postseason hits. Last week the Commodores finished 0-2 with losses to Henry Clay and Beechwood. Things get no easier this week as they head to GRC, host Lexington Catholic, and then head to Oldham County to end the week. 10. Frederick Douglass (9-10) - The Broncos had a rough week finishing 1-2 at the Toyota Classic. They did beat a good 12th Region Wayne County team but fell to Woodford County and Trinity Catholic(FL). This week is no easier as the Broncos have 4 games all at home against Madison Central, Scott County, Beechwood, and Simon Kenton. 11. Madison Southern (13-8) - The Eagles continue to play well and have won 5 in a row. This past week they went 2-0 with wins over Shelby County and Southwestern. First year head coach Austin Newton really has the Eagles playing well. This week Madison Southern hosts Frankfort in a big game and then heads to West Jessamine. 12. Paul Laurence Dunbar (7-12) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-2 with losses to Frederick Douglass and Lexington Catholic and a nice win over Lincoln County. The Bulldogs will only go as far as Senior Jarred Gadd will take them. Up next PLD heads to Lafayette and host Bryan Station. 13. Franklin County (10-10) - The Flyers finished the week 1-1 with a double overtime win at Shelby County but for the first time in 29 games and nearly 12 years the Flyers fell to Western Hills. The Flyers have cemented themselves as the 3 seed in the district. Up next Franklin County heads to Indiana to play at Hoosier Gym against Louisville Collegiate. 14. Bryan Station (3-14) - The Defenders were idle last week so not much to report from the north side of Lexington. Up next Bryan Station hosts Sayre, head to PLD, and host Scott County to end the week. 15. Model (11-8) - The Patriots ended the week 1-1 at the 11th Region All A Classic with an opening round win over Sayre before falling to LCA in the finals. This week Model heads to Garrard County and hosts Bourbon County. 16. Western Hills (5-12) - The Wolverines finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Woodford County and a win over Franklin County, their first in 12 years. This week Western Hills host Shelby County and then heads to Owen County. 17. Sayre (4-14) - The Spartans finished the week 1-1 in the 11th Region All A Classic with a win over Berea an a loss to Model. Next up Sayre heads to Bryan Station and hosts Breathitt County. 18. Berea (10-8) - The Pirates only had one game this week as they fell to Sayre in the opening round of the 11th Region All A Classic. This week Berea heads to Jackson County, hosts Frankfort Christian, and heads to Danville Christian.
  14. I really thought this was the year the Panthers would break through and win the 11th Region All A. Congrats to LCA.
  15. No surprise to me. Brossart is good this year and played a much more difficult schedule then Robertson. Check the status of the Black Devil nation someone!!
  16. Players get 2 games coaches get 3. That changed a couple years ago.
  17. DQ’d and their next game is in the opening round of the 2A state tournament. He will miss their next 3 games.
  18. Another week has come and gone and just when you think you kind of got it figured out in this region, district matchups come around and shake things up. The #1 spot is a no brainer and has been all season, but spots 2-11, Im not sure anyone knows whats going to happen next! Lets get to it! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (18-1) - The Cardinals continued their winning ways this past week going 3-0 against Madison Central, Sayre, and Ashland Blazer. The game at Madison Central was no easy task as the Cardinals trailed by as much as 17 in the second half but as all good teams do they found a way to win and pulled out a close one 73-70. The Toyota Classic begins this week in Georgetown and the host Cardinals take on Myrtle Beach Christian Academy out of South Carolina to open the tournament. 2. Henry Clay (16-4) - The Blue Devils jump up a spot to #2 this week after going 3-0 and picking up wins over Bryan Station, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Frederick Douglass. As I always seem to mention in these weekly articles, Junior Marques Warrick continues to pace the Blue Devils but big man Harris Hawkins has really started to come into his own lately and becoming a defensive force down low for Henry Clay. Only one game on the schedule for the Blue Devils this week as they host Tates Creek. 3. Frankfort (14-3) - The Panthers fall one spot to #3 this week after an early week loss to rival Franklin County by 1 point on the road. However the Panthers responded well picking up two wins over Western Hills and a HUGE neutral court victory over South Laurel on Saturday. A big week coming up for Frankfort as the 11th Region All A begins and the Panthers are the host. They open up with Frankfort Christian Academy and a date with LCA awaits the winner. The Panthers havent won the All A Region in over a decade and this year could be their best chance yet. 4. Woodford County (14-4) - The Yellow Jackets jump up to #4 this week in the rankings due to going 2-0 and because no other teams behind them can figure out who they really are. After a couple weeks of inconsistency the Yellow Jackets seem to have righted the ship some. Woodford picked up 2 big district wins over Western Hills and Franklin County this past week. Up next for Woodford County, they head to the Toyota Classic where they face off with Lafayette in the opening round. 5. Lafayette (11-7) -The Generals started the week off with a HUGE district win over rival Lexington Catholic which set them up nice to take control of the district standings but then gave all that back with a loss to Lexington Christian to end the week. The 43rd District is as wide open as Ive ever seen it but the Generals have played the best lately of all the teams so thats why they are here. This week Lafayette heads to the Toyota Classic where they face off with Woodford County in the opening round. 6. Lexington Catholic (8-11) - The Knights finish the week 1-1 with a loss to Lafayette and a win over Tates Creek. Always important to win the district seeding games in the 43rd and even with a loss to Lafayette, Lexington Catholic is still in a great position to get the 1 seed if they take care of business from here on out. This week the Knights host East Jessamine and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Another shot for a district win for Lexington Catholic. 7. Madison Central (8-9) -The Indians dropped their only game this past week in a close one to Scott County in which they led most of the game. Isaiah Cozart had a monster game pouring in 33 points and grabbing 18 rebounds! Up next the Indians head to West Jessamine before hosting Lincoln County and Hopkinsville to end the week. 8. Lexington Christian Academy (13-6) -The Eagles finished the week 2-0 with wins over Lafayette and North Hardin. With the win over North Hardin coach Nate Valentine picked up his 100th career win. Congrats to Coach Valentine. This week is a big week for LCA as the 11th Region All A tournament begins in Frankfort. The Eagles received a bye but will most likely face off with Frankfort in the semi finals in what should be a great game. 9. Tates Creek (10-5) - For the first time since December of 2014 the Commodores won a 43rd District game with their win over Paul Laurence Dunbar this past week. Unfortunately, for Tates Creek they dropped their next game to Lexington Catholic and fall to 1-4 in the district standings. The Commodores continue to show steady improvement this season. Up next they travel to Henry Clay in their only game this week. 10. Frederick Douglass (7-8) - The Broncos dropped their only game this week at home to Henry Clay. An up and down season for the Broncos continues, they really need to find some consistency if they have any chance of getting out of the district this season. This week the Broncos travel to Paul Laurence Dunbar before heading to Georgetown to take on Wayne County in the opening round of the Toyota Classic. 11. Madison Southern (11-8) -The Eagles continue to play great basketball and won 2 games this week over Model and Berea. Chad Fugate and Trent Moberly are both averaging around 15 points a game and pace the Eagles so far this season. Up next Madison Southern heads to Sayre and then host Southwestern. 12. Franklin County (9-9) - The Flyers picked up their biggest win of the season this past week beating Frankfort 77-76 then fell on the road at Woodford County. The loss at Woodford locks up FC as being in the 2/3 game in the district tournament. Up for FC this week are trips to Shelby County and Western Hills. 13. Paul Laurence Dunbar (6-10) -The Bulldogs had a rough week dropping 2 games to Tates Creek and Henry Clay. Maybe the biggest loss is that of senior guard Jared Gadd who is out for an undisclosed amount of time with some back issues. The Bulldogs really need him back to give them a chance the rest of the season. Up next PLD hosts Frederick Douglass, travels to Lexington Catholic, and then takes on Lincoln County in a neutral site game. 14. Bryan Station (3-14) - The Defenders had a nice week going 1-1 losing a close one to Henry Clay and picking up a HUGE road win over 10th region power GRC. Steady improvement for the young Defenders in the new year. Bryan Station takes a 10 day break and has no games on the schedule this week. 15. Model (10-7) -The Patriots dropped both games this week to Madison Southern and Washington County. Up this week for the Patriots is the 11th Region All A tournament where they drew a bye and will face the winner of Berea and Sayre. 16. Western Hills (4-11) - The Wolverines doubled their season win total this past week picking up 2 wins over Bluegrass United and East Jessamine but fell to Frankfort as well. Two district games this week both at home against Woodford County and Franklin County. 17. Sayre (3-13) -The Spartans continue to struggle taking 2 on the chin this past week to Scott County and Woodford County. Up next is the 11th Region All A tournament where Sayre plays Berea in the first round. 18. Berea (10-7) - The Pirates finished the week 1-1 with a win over Burgin and a loss to Madison Southern. 10 wins is nice but the level of competition is not. Up next Berea takes on Sayre in the opening round of the 11th Region All A tournament. GAMES OF THE WEEK Toyota Classic at Scott County 11th Region All A Tournament at Frankfort
  19. Harrison County had 30 points at the half. 8 three pointers and 6 free throws it was quite the site. Finished with 12 made 3s on the night I believe.
  20. Halfway through the season and we are finally starting to the cream of the 11th Region rise to the top! The top 3 teams in the Region have started to reveal themselves while the middle of the pack is trying to figure out who really wants to be here. The 43rd District remains as crazy as ever and 2 LONG streaks remained intact for another week. Team Rankings 1. Scott County (15-1) - The Cardinals began the week with their first loss of the season in the championship of the Beach Ball Classic losing 42-41 to Westchester, California in a game they lead most of the way but just fell short at the end to a very talented team. To end the week Scott County traveled to 42nd District rival Henry Clay and won a grind it out battle against the Blue Devils 67-59. Finally, they headed to South Laurel to take on #2 Trinity in a game most people had circled on the schedule since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, headliners Michael Moreno and David Johnson were both out due to injury but the game did not disappoint. Diablo Stewart poured in 25 points to lead the Cardinals. Im not sure you can find a team in the state of Kentucky that has played a tougher schedule then Scott County in a long time! Three games on the schedule for the Cardinals this week as they head to Madison Central then host Sayre and Ashland Blazer. 2. Frankfort (12-2) - Last week we previewed a HUGE game in the 41st District when the Panthers hosted Woodford County. Frankfort DOMINATED the Yellow Jackets and won 66-49 in a game that was basically over at the half. The Panthers have solidified themselves as the second best team in the region and in my opinion a top 25 team in the state of Kentucky. More importantly to them they are now 3-0 in the district with wins over all 3 teams and are now in a great position for the 1 seed. This week provides 2 more opportunities to establish themselves as the 1 seed as they head to Franklin County and host Western Hills in two 41st District showdowns! 3. Henry Clay (13-4) - The Blue Devils finished the week 2-1 with wins over Sayre and Huntington North, Indiana and a loss to Scott County. Henry Clay led the Cardinals at the half but werent able to hang on. The game against Huntington North went Double Overtime and the Blue Devils prevailed led by Marques Warrick's 22 points and 4 assists. Three city games, including two 42nd District games, on the schedule this week. Henry Clay hosts Bryan Station then head to Paul Laurence Dunbar and Frederick Douglass to end the week. 4. Lexington Christian Academy (11-5) - A rough week for the Eagles going 1-2 with both losses being in 43rd District play. They fell in 2 close games both at home to Lexington Catholic and Paul Laurence Dunbar before salvaging a win over Southwestern over the weekend. Another big week ahead for the Eagles as they head to West Jessamine then host Lafayette in ANOTHER 43rd District showdown before ending the week against North Hardin at Central Hardin as part of the Bluegrass Cellular Classic. 5. Lafayette (10-6) - The Generals have now won 5 in a row after a 2-0 week with wins over Bryan Station and Tates Creek. In the win over Tates Creek big man Ray Surratt poured in 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds including a put back with less then 2 seconds left to seal the win for the Generals. Lafayette currently sets as the 2 seed in the 43rd District with 2 district games on the slate this week as they host Lexington Catholic and then head to LCA in what is the biggest week of the season for the Generals thus far. 6. Woodford County (9-4) - The Yellow Jackets take a drop in our rankings this week after losing to Frankfort in a big district game that now drops them to the 2 seed in the 41st District. After starting the season 6-0 the Yellow Jackets have dropped 4 of their last 7. This week Woodford County heads to Sayre and then hosts district rival Franklin County to end the week. 7. Madison Central (8-8) - The Indians finished last week with a 2-1 record with wins over Bryan Station and Paul Laurence Dunbar and a close loss to Heritage Hills, Indiana in the Kentucky/Indiana Hall of Fame Classic. Big man Isaiah Cozart averaged 19.3 points and 10.6 rebounds a game this week while Quaezhan Charlton helped the big man with 19 points a game for the week. Only one game on the schedule this week for the Indians but its a big one as they host Scott County. 8. Lexington Catholic (7-10) - The Knights had a big week going 2-0 with wins over LCA and St. Henry. The win over LCA on the road and in overtime helped move the Knights to 2-0 in 43rd District play and currently puts them as the 1 seed. Ben Johnson and Brice Scott continue to pace Lexington Catholic. This week 2 more 43rd District games as the Knights head to Lafayette and then host Tates Creek. If the Knights pull out 2 wins this week they will be in the drivers seat in the 43rd. 9.Tates Creek (9-4) - To begin the week the Commodores went to Franklin County and won 54-52 in a game they lead by double figures headed to the 4th. Next, they traveled to Lafayette in hopes of ending their 37 game 43rd District losing streak. Unfortunately, the Generals got a last second tip in to get a win and increase Tates Creek's streak to 38. This week two more opportunities to end the streak as Tates Creek hosts Paul Laurence Dunbar and then heads to Lexington Catholic to end the week. If the Commodores want any chance of not being the 5 seed.....again, they need to pick up a win this week. 10. Paul Laurence Dunbar (6-8) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-1 with a win over LCA and a loss to Madison Central. The win over LCA was a big one for the Bulldogs to improve their 43rd District record to 2-2. In the win over the Eagles, senior Jared Gadd poured in 24 points to help Dunbar pull off the upset on the road. This week 3 games are on the schedule as Dunbar heads to Tates Creek, hosts Henry Clay, and heads to Christian County over the weekend to play in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic. 11. Frederick Douglass (7-7) - After a good Christmas break the Broncos took a step back this week going 1-1 with an overtime win over Madison Southern and a blowout loss on the road to a 4 win Harrison County squad. If the Broncos arent scoring off turnovers or in transition they are hard pressed to score. This week only one game on the schedule as they host Henry Clay in a 42nd District battle. 12. Franklin County (8-8) - The Flyers finshed 1-1 last week with a 2 point loss to Tates Creek and a win over Western Hills. The win over Western Hills was the 29th straight in the "rivalry" and the 46th out of the last 50. Think about that for a second two crosstown rivals and one team has won 46 out of 50!! Anyway, this week the Flyers have two big district games as they host Frankfort and visit Woodford County. 13. Madison Southern (9-8) - The Eagles lost a heart breaker in overtime to Frederick Douglass early in the week but bounced back with a big win over Montgomery County at the end of the week. The Eagles have shown improvement over first year coach Austin Newton. This week they head to Model in what should be an interesting game and then host Berea. 14. Model (10-5) - The Patriots have won 5 straight and won their only game of the week last week with a blowout win over rival Berea. Up next a big game with Madison Southern before heading to Washington County to end the week. Personally, I think the Model/Madison Southern game could be a good one for an under the radar game of the week. 15. Bryan Station (2-13) - The Defenders dropped both games this week to Lafayette and Madison Central. Things get no easier for Bryan Station as they hit the road to Henry Clay and George Rogers Clark to play in the MLK Jr. Classic on Saturday. 16. Sayre (3-11) - The Spartans finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Henry Clay and a win over Pendelton County, without Dontaie Allen. This week the Spartans host Woodford County and head to Scott County. Rough week ahead. 17. Berea (9-6) - The Pirates finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Model and a win over Bluegrass United. This week the Pirates head to Burgin and Madison Southern. 18. Western Hills (2-9) - The Wolverines lost their only game of the week to Franklin County.....for the 29th straight time. This week 4 games for the Wolverines. They head to Mercer County for the opening round of the 2A Classic, then go to East Jessamine, host homeschool team Bluegrass United, and head to Frankfort to end the week. 21. A week full of holiday tournaments have passed and the season is in full swing. This past week some of the top teams in the region made some statements while others are still trying to find their identity. One team is not only starting to distance themselves from the rest of the region but maybe the state as a whole. Lets get to the rankings! Team Rankings 1. Scott County (13-0) - The Cardinals traveled to Myrtle Beach this week for the prestigious Beach Ball Classic and at the time of this post are preparing to play in the championship game against Westchester, California. During the impressive run by Scott County this week they knocked off host Socastee, SC, Cox Mill, North Carolina who is currently ranked 19th in the country by Max Preps, North Little Rock, Arkansas, another team ranked in the top 25 in the country by Max Preps. The biggest news to come from the Scott County camp though unfortunately is the loss of Michael Moreno for 4-6 weeks with a fracture in his foot that he sustained against Cox Mill. Glenn Covington has picked up the slack pouring in 31 points in a semifinal win over North Little Rock. This team is loaded and deep, the loss of Moreno will hurt but Im not sure anyone in KY will be able to handle Scott County in the mean time. 2. Frankfort (11-2) - The Panthers continue to impress this season. This past week Frankfort won the Gateway Holiday Classic in Montgomery County with 3 wins over Mason County, Harrison County, and host Montgomery County. None of the 3 games were remotely close and Juanya Frank continues to lead the way for the Panthers with help from big man John Tillman. Only one game on the schedule this week for Frankfort but its a HUGE one with Woodford County visiting the state capital Friday night in a big district seeding matchup. 3. Lexington Christian Academy (10-3) - The Eagles captured the Central Bank Classic this week with wins over Conner, Campbell County, and Central Hardin. In the win over Campbell County senior Kyle Rode connected on a lob play over 3 Camels with less then 7 seconds left to give LCA a big win over a quality opponent. This week LCA hosts Lexington Catholic and Paul Laurence Dunbar in 2 big district seeding games. Two wins would really establish LCA as the 1 seed in the ever tough 43rd District. 4. Henry Clay (11-3) - The Blue Devils headed to Ashland this past week for the Ashland Invitational Tournament. Henry Clay finished 3rd with a semi final loss to Butler, a team they beat just last week, and wins over Christian Academy of Louisville and Seneca. Marques Warrick was named to the all tournament team and continues to prove himself to doubters. He is by far and away the best player on the Blue Devils and one of the best in the state. Three games on the schedule for the Blue Devils this week with district games against Sayre and Scott County and a game in the Kentucky/Indiana Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle, Indiana. 5. Woodford County (9-3) - The Yellow Jackets traveled to Daytona, Florida this past week and finished 3rd in the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament with wins over Gateway and Canterbury out of Florida and a loss to Frederick Douglass Academy out of the Bronx. This week just one game but as mentioned above its a big one against Frankfort. Cant wait for that matchup. 6. Tates Creek (8-3) - The Commodores were idle this past week after their tournament win in Gatlinburg. This week they hit the road to Franklin County and Lafayette. The next hurdle for these Commodores is to win a district game. The Commodores have lost 37 straight 43rd District games. The last win came against Lafayette in December of 2014!! A big chance to end that streak Friday against the Generals. 7. Lafayette (8-6) - The Generals are starting to find their stride as they ended the week with a championship at the City of Middletown Holiday Classic with wins over DuPont Manual, Mayfield, and Central. This week Lafayette hosts Bryan Station and then an interesting district matchup with Tates Creek. 8. Madison Central (6-7) - The Indians traveled to the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic and finished 1-2 on the week with a win over Newport Central Catholic and losses to Somerset and Aiken out of Cincinnati, OH. Three games on the schedule this week for the Indians as they host Paul Laurence Dunbar and Bryan Station then head to New Castle, Indiana to play in the Kentucky/Indiana Hall of Fame Classic against Heritage Hills, Indiana. 9. Lexington Catholic (5-10) - The Knights finish the week 2-2 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic with wins over Bellevue and Franklin County and losses to Newport and Landstown, Virginia. This week the Knights head to LCA and host St. Henry. 10. Frederick Douglass (6-6) - A good week for the Broncos as they finished 3-1 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and won the consolation bracket. After a loss to eventual champion University Heights the Broncos reeled off 3 straight wins over Robertson County, Bardstown, and George Rogers Clark. This week the Broncos hit the road to Madison Southern and Harrison County. 11. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-7) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-2 in the City of Middletown Holiday Classic with losses to Central and Eastern and a win over Atherton. The Bulldogs are one of the better defensive teams in the region but are really struggling to score on the offensive end which has resulted in a lot of close losses. This week PLD heads to Madison Central and LCA. 12. Franklin County (7-7) - The Flyers competed in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic this past week and finished 1-2 with a win over Hancock County and losses to Lexington Catholic and Cooper. A good week of quality opponents for the Flyers. This week they host Tates Creek and "rival" Western Hills. 13. Madison Southern (8-7) - The Eagles traveled to Campbellsville this past week for the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic and finished 1-2 with a win over Green County and losses to Marion County and Campbellsville. This week they host Frederick Douglass and Montgomery County. 14. Model (9-5) - The Patriots continue to play good basketball with a championship in the Beth Haven Holiday Classic with 3 wins over Brown, Shawnee, and Kentucky Country Day. Up next the Patriots head to Berea. 15. Bryan Station (2-11) - The Defenders competed in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic this past week and finished 1-2 with a win over Bellevue and losses to Deltona, Florida and George Rogers Clark. Station's 2 wins are against teams with a combined 6-18 record. This week they head to Lafayette and Madison Central. 16. Berea (8-5) - The Pirates finished the week 2-1 in the Grand Home Furnishings Holiday Classic in Wise, Virginia with wins over Wise County Christian and Northwood both out of Virginia and a loss to Eastside, Virginia. This week the Pirates host Model and Bluegrass United Homeschool. 17. Sayre (2-10) - The Spartans finished the week 0-3 as part of the South Central Bank Halton Classic at Allen County Scottsville with losses to Allen County Scottsville, Todd County Central, and Franklin Simpson. This week Sayre hosts Henry Clay and Pendleton County. 18. Western Hills (2-8) - The Wolverines ended up competing in the Henry County Invitational and finished 1-2 with losses to Grant County and Boone County and a win over Iroquois. This week Western Hills heads to Franklin County in a district matchup. Games of the Week Friday January 4th Woodford County @ Frankfort Tates Creek @ Lafayette Scott County @ Henry Clay
  22. Another week has come and gone in the 11th Region. As has been all year long the top team remains the same and the rest of the region is starting to come together. We are in the middle of the holiday tournament season which means some interesting match ups and statement games for some of the programs in the area. Lets get to it! Team Rankings 1. Scott County (10-0) - The Cardinals continue to roll through the 2018 section of their schedule. This week they picked up 2 blowout victories over Fern Creek and Lafayette, two perinel power programs in our state. Michael Moreno, Diablo Stewart and Bryce Long continue to lead the Cardinals. Up next Scott County heads to Myrtle Beach for the Beach Ball Classic where they face off with hosts Socastee, South Carolina to open tournament play. 2. Frankfort (8-2) - The Panthers continue to play great basketball early in the season. This past week they picked up 3 wins over Western, Boone County, and Boyle County. Against Western senior guard Juanya Frank picked up his 1,000th career point. This week the Panthers head to Montgomery County for the Gateway Holiday Classic and face off with Mason County in the opening round. 3. Lexington Christian Academy (7-3) - The Eagles headed to the King of the Bluegrass this past week. In their first age they knocked off University Heights convincingly with Kyle Rode pouring in 27 points and 14 rebounds and out performing KyKy Tandy. Next up they ran into a buzz saw in Trinity and fell hard. Next up they dropped a game to a good Madisonville team where they only managed to score 35 points. This week the Eagles host the Central Bank Classic. 4. Henry Clay (9-2) - The Blue Devils had a great week winning the Henry Clay Invitational Tournament with wins over Great Falls, South Carolina, PRP, and Butler. Marques Warrick was named MVP of the tournament and continues to prove to be one of the nest players in not only the region but the state. This week the Blue Devils head to Ashland for the AIT where they matchup with Christian Academy of Louisville in the first round. 5. Woodford County (7-2) - The Yellow Jackets finished the week 1-1 with a big win over Ashland and a close lose at home to St. Xavier. Brandon Cromwell and Anthony Tabor continue to lead the Yellow Jackets. This week they head to Daytona, Florida for the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament where they face off with Gateway, Florida out of Kissimmee. 6. Tates Creek (8-3) - Winners of 5 in a row the Commodores might be the hottest team in the region and continue to climb our weekly rankings. This past week Tates Creek traveled to the Smoky Mountain Classic and won the white bracket with wins over North Laurel, North Forsyth, Georgia, and Corbin. The Commodores have an extended break and play no games this week. 7. Madison Central (5-5) - The Indians also traveled to the King of the Bluegrass in Louisville this past week and came away with a 1-2 record. They dropped their opening game to Walton Verona, beat Spencer County, and lost to Evanston Township out of Illinois to end the week. Up next the Indians travel to the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic and face off with Newport Central Catholic in the opening round. 8. Lafayette (5-6) - The Generals finished the week 2-1 and runners up in the Clash of the Titans Holiday Classic in Harrodsburg picking up wins over Somerset and Shelby County and falling to Lincoln County in the championship game. This week Lafayette heads to Louisville for the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern. They face off with DuPont Manual in the opening round. 9. Lexington Catholic (3-8) - The Knights have hit a skid and have lost 6 in a row including 3 this past week in Las Vegas as part of the Tarkanian Classic. Luckily for the Knights they return home to host the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic where they face off with Bellevue to open tournament play. 10. Paul Laurence Dunbar (4-5) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-2 as part of the Henry Clay Invitational Tournament. They dropped close games to Butler and West Jessamine and picked up a win over Seven Hills, Ohio. This week PLD travels to Louisville for the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern where they face off with Central in the opening round. 11. Franklin County (6-5) - The Flyers finished the week 2-1 with 2 wins in the Huck Turner Holiday Classic at Harrison County over Harrison County and Holmes. They dropped a game early in the week to Eastern on the road in a close one. Up next the Flyers head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with Hancock County in the opening round. An interesting matchup waits in the second round between Franklin County and Lexington Catholic if both teams win their opening games. 12. Frederick Douglass (3-5) - The Broncos only played one game this past week and fell to St. Xavier in a close competitive game. This week the Broncos head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with University Heights in the opening round. 13. This week the Eagles head to Campbellsville for the Campbellsville Holiday Classic and face off with Marion County in the opening round. 14. Bryan Station (1-9) - The Defenders continue to struggle but a small tiny bright spot picking up their first win of the season over St. Henry this week as part of the Phillip Wood Classic at Pendleton County. They dropped games to Cooper and Pendleton County in blowout fashion earlier in the week. This week they head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with Deltona, Florida in the opening round. 15. Model (6-5) - The Patriots finished the week 2-1 in the Jim Lankster Holiday Classic at Sayre with wins over Sayre and Belfry and a loss to Harlan. This week Model heads to Beth Haven for the Beth Haven Holiday Classic and face off with Brown in the opening round. 16. Sayre (2-7) - The Spartans hosted the Jim Lankster Holiday Classic this past week and finished 1-2. With losses to Harlan and Model and a win over Belfry. Western Hills (1-6) - The Wolverines lost their only game of the week to Danville and continue to struggle. They don’t have any holiday tournaments listed on their schedule and don’t show another game until January 4th. A solid strategy to improve your team! Something needs to change.
