Just what I am hearing from folks that work in Franklin County Public Schools. If its not true I will own that but its definitely going around.

Rumor around Frankfort today is Coach James has decided to not go to Highlands and return to Franklin County.

All of Paul Laurence Dunbar's games are being streamed on NFHS which I believe is a pay to watch site.

I believe Jayden Mattison could return to games this week. Peiffer looks to be out a couple more weeks with a lingering injury from football.

The first week of the season is in the books for the 11th Region. There have been some surprising results and some not so surprising ones as well. The top teams flexed their muscles while some traditional powerhouses are off to slow starts. Lets check out what happened this week!! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (3-0) - The Knights picked up 3 wins in week one over Lexington Christian Academy, St. Henry, and McCreary Central. The St. Henry game was a match up of two top 25 teams in the state and two of the top players in the state in Ben Johnson and Wyatt Vieth. The Knights came out on top narrowly in overtime. Ben Johnson poured in 31 points and and is off to a great start and continues to show why he is one of the favorites for this year's Mr. Basketball award. This week the Knights Head to Lafayette for a 43rd District matchup before hosting Holmes and Highlands out of the 9th Region. 2. Madison Central (3-0) - The Indians picked up 3 wins this week over Scott County, Madison Southern, and Great Crossing. All three games were tightly contested including a last second victory over Scott County on opening night. In Saturday's victory over Great Crossing, Senior Kole Brown scored his 1,000th career point. Congrats to Kole. This week the Indians travel to West Jessamine before ending the week with home games against Paul Laurence Dunbar and Lincoln County. 3. Paul Laurence Dunbar (3-0) - The Bulldogs are off to their best start since the 2015-16 State Championship winning season with 3 victories over Tates Creek, Henry Clay, and Lexington Christian Academy. The Bulldogs sit at 2-0 in the 43rd District which is vitally important to get the 1 seed in. Tim Hall paced the Bulldogs this week averaging 18.7 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. This week the Bulldogs host Frederick Douglass before heading to Madison Central and Bowling Green. 4. Frederick Douglass (2-0) - The Broncos are off to a 2-0 start after wins over Paris and Great Crossing. Congrats to coach Jason Moseley on his first career win at Douglass. Senior guard DaShawn Jackson had a big week averaging 26.5 points per game while junior Tyson Barrett added 17.0 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. The competition steps up this week for Douglass as they face off with Paul Laurence Dunbar then head to Scott County for a 42nd District match up before finishing the week heading to North Laurel to face off with Pike County Central in the Legacy Nissan Classic. 5. Bryan Station (2-0) - The Defenders are off to a great start with wins over Henry Clay and Cooper! The Defenders had a balanced scoring attack this week with Myles Morones averaging 16 points per game while Trent Grundy and JMarious Lindsay each pouted in 14 points per game. According to KHSAA the Defenders are shooting nearly 41% from the 3 to start the season. This week Bryan Station has one game as they head across town to face Lafayette. 6.Lafayette (2-1) - The Generals werent on many peoples radar this season but some early results may have opened some eyes. Lafayette dropped a close one with Woodford County to start the season but picked up wins over Tates Creek and defending 12th Region Champion West Jessamine to end the week. Lafayette has posted no stats at this time. This week the Generals have three tough tests with Lexington Catholic, Bryan Station, and Simon Kenton. 7. Henry Clay (1-2) - The Blue Devils start of the week with losses to Bryan Station and Paul Laurence Dunbar but did manage to pull out a nice win over 42nd District rival Scott County. Aziel Black paced Henry Clay this week averaging 21 points per game while Kayne Henderson added 15.7 points per game. This week the Blue Devils hit the road with trips to Tates Creek, Madison Southern, and Nicholas County. 8. Scott County (0-3) - The Cardinals are off to one of their worst starts in years. This week Scott County dropped games to Madison Central and Mason County by 2 points each and also fell to Henry Clay in another close game. Up next for Scott County is crosstown rival Great Crossing then follow up with East Jessamine and Frederick Douglass to end the week. 9. Lexington Christian Academy (1-2) - The Eagles started the season off with a win over Western Hills before dropping their next 2 games to Lexington Catholic and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Tanner Walton has been out this past week nursing an ankle injury but it seems like he will be back this week when the Eagles open up play in the 11th Region All A Tournament against Frankfort. 10. Madison Southern (1-2) - The Eagles started off the week with close losses to East Jessamine and Madison Central before picking up a blowout victory over Marion County. According to their social media the Eagles took 7 charges, a school record, in the victory over Marion County. Trent DeVries has led the Eagles this week with 19.7 points per game followed by Jayden Adams with 13 points per game. This week Madison Southern hosts South Laurel and Henry Clay before heading to Harlan County to end the week. 11. Tates Creek (0-2) - The Commodores are off to an 0-2 start but both games were close losses to Paul Laurence Dunbar and Lafayette. Sam Parrish averaged 17 points per game this week while shooting 63% from the 3 point line. This week Tates Creek hosts Henry Clay before heading to Woodford County and Bracken County to end the week. 12. Great Crossing (0-3) - The Warhawks started the season with losses to West Jessamine, Frederick Douglass, and Madison Central. A tough schedule to start the season gets no easier this week as Great Crossing faces off with Scott County, Franklin County and George Rogers Clark. Carson Walls paced the Warhawks this week at 20 points per game. 13. Franklin County (0-2) - The Flyers are off to a rough start while missing starters Phillip Peiffer and Jayden Mattison. The Flyers dropped games this week to Collins and East Jessamine. Zac Cox led the Flyers are 13 points per game this week. The Flyers have a full week coming up with games against Shelby County, Great Crossing, and Montgomery County. 14. Sayre (2-0) - The Spartans are off to a 2-0 start with close wins over Frankfort and Bethlehem. Zander Collett has paced the Spartans pouring in 22.5 points per game early in the season. This week Sayre heads to Powell County and Berea in two winnable games for the Spartans. 15. Frankfort (1-2) - The Panthers dropped their first two games of the season to Sayre and Danville before picking up a nice win over Southwestern. Big man Jackson Twombly is averaging a near double double at 28.5 points per game and 9 rebounds a game. This week the Panthers compete in the 11th Region All A Classic with an opening round matchup with Lexington Christian Academy then head to Western Hills to end the week. 16. Western Hills (0-2) - The Wolverines dropped two close games this week to Lexington Christian Academy and Henry County. Walter Campbell and Zach Semones posted 19 and 15 points per game respectfully. This week the Wolverines host Danville, Central Kentucky Homeschool, and Frankfort. 17. Model (1-2) - The Patriots started the season off with a win over Wellspring Guardians Homeschool and dropped games to Whitley County and Boone County. Bryson Perry had a nice week with 18 points per game and Ethan Bailey chipped in 14.3 points per game. This week the Patriots open up the 11th Region All A Classic with Frankfort Christian Academy then face off with Robertson County to end the week. 18. Berea (1-1) - Congrats to Coach Valentine for his first win with a win over Barbourvile. The Pirates dropped a close game to Bluegrass United at the end of the week. Trenton Wilson averaged 18 points per game while Jaylen Dorsey averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. This week Berea plays Sayre in the first round of the 11th Region All A Classic. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-1) - The Royals started the season off with a loss at Mercer County but have been shut down for the next two weeks due to Covid-19. Noah Sowders did score 17 points against Mercer County. No games for the Royals this week.

Let me start by apologizing for the lateness of this post I have had terrible internet issues this week. Either way lets check out the top teams in the region this year and the top players. As always the 11th Region is a grind and one of if not the top region in the state! 1. Lexington Catholic - The Knights return a strong group of players who finished 31-3 along with an 11th Region Runner Up trophy. Back to lead the Knights is all state guard and one of the favorites for Mr. Basketball, Ben Johnson. Johnson poured in 25.6 points per game last year and has recently committed to Belleramine University. Along with Johnson, look for Jack Gohmann to really step up his production this season. The Nights are not only the favorite to capture the 11th Region title but one of the top 5 teams in the state in my opinion. Should be a fun season on Clays Mill Road. 2. Madison Central - The Indians return the bulk of their team from last year after only graduating two guys who didnt see much playing time last season. Madison Central will be lead by Kole Brown and Braeden Raye. Also, look for Jaylen Davis to have a breakout year for Coach Feldhaus and the Indians. This team pushed Lexington Catholic to overtime late last season and will always be the hardest playing team on the floor. The Indians have what it takes to win the 11th Region. 3. Frederick Douglass - The Broncos surprised a lot of people last year by winning the 42nd District and then advancing all the way to the regional semifinal before falling to Lexington Catholic. Jason Moseley takes over for Kurt Young and has a great resume that follows him. The Broncos will be lead by all state guard DaShawn Jackson and his 21.6 points per game. With a player like Jackson and the stable of athletes the Broncos seem to always have they will have a great shot at defending their district championship and making noise at the end of the season. 4. Paul Laurence Dunbar - The Bulldogs seem to always find themselves ranked near the top of the region early in the season then fall back before making a late run to show what they are capable of. This year Coach Chalk returns most of his squad from last year lead by Tim Hall and Nick Spalding, also look for Nick's brother Dylan to have a big season as well. PLD did lose a key player in the summer when Robbie Todd moved to Morehead and enrolled at Rowan County but Dunbar may have the most size in the region! 5. Scott County - The defending 11th Region champions came out of nowhere to surprise everyone and win the region last year. Tons of key contributors graduated for Coach Glenn but the cupboard is never bare in Georgetown. Look for Elias Richardson to improve on his 14.5 points per game from last season. Defense will always lead the way in Georgetown and as they showed last year, you cant count out the Cardinals. 6. Bryan Station - The Defenders enter year 3 under coach Nimbo Hammons and look to continue to improve and climb up the ladder. For the first time since Nimbo took the job the Defenders have some much needed experience back. Look for Myles Morones and JMarious Lindsey to lead the way for a Bryan Station team who lost to eventual Region Champion Scott County by 1 in overtime in the 42 District tournament. 7. Henry Clay - The Blue Devils have been a perennial power in the 11th Region the last decade. The Blue Devils lost a ton to graduation including all state guard Marques Warrick. Henry Clay will look to their youth to keep the legacy going and look for Kanye Henderson and Aziel Blackwell to take a step up this season with more responsibility. 8. Lexington Christian Academy - LCA returns one of the leading scorers and top players in the region this year in junior Tanner Walton who poured in 21.5 points per game. The youth will have to step up for Coach Hall if they want to compete in not only the 11th Region but the 43rd Distrcit as well! 9. Franklin County - The Flyers aren't on anyone's radar this season but I expect them to be much better then expected. Coach Wise has gotten some new roster additions from the Flyer football team who finished as 4A State Runner Up. Look for Phillip Peffier and Zac Cox to lead the flyers this season but I expect a major contribution from football start Fred Farrier. The Flyers could be the fastest team in the region this season. 10. Tates Creek - Coach Gay has done an outstanding job with Tates Creek. When he took the job 4 years ago they were at the bottom of the region and the worst team in Lexington. Fast forward and the Commodores were in the region semi finals last year and right there until the end. Tates Creek lost a lot to graduation but look for youngster Sam Parrish to make himself known this year along with Josh Dutoit who returns after a stellar junior season. TOP 10 PLAYERS 1. With Covid-19 and everything going on it has been super hard to get information and responses on how some of these teams will be and their expectations. The girls coach at Morehead State University.

Todd “transferred” to Rowan bc his parents finally made the permanent move to Morehead where his dad is the girls coach. They had been living in Lexington the whole time. Robby’s sister Brooke played at PLD as well. This is nothing more then an actual move and change of address. Not all transfers are “fake” ones. PrepHoops reports things like they are breaking news for the NBA or something. Ridiculous.

Coach Thacker is a long time assistant football in Central Kentucky. He is a former head football coach as well. He was the OC at Franklin County before his wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 I believe. He was out of football until Coach Atchley and LCA came calling for the 2015 season. He left LCA after the 2017 season to come back to Franklin County for the 2018 and 2019 seasons but was let go as OC after this past season by Coach James. Coach Thacker was let go from his coordinator position via text message of all things. He continues to teach and be the girls basketball coach at Franklin County where his daughters play. He has taken the girls team to 4 state tournaments and 2 state runner up finishes. He has also won 12 district titles. Best wishes to Coach Thacker as a Bulldog!

The season has flown by this year and now we are down to the final 8 teams in the most competitive region in the state. the 11th Region has placed a team in the championship game of the state tournament 3 of the last 4 years. This year could be no different but don't expect the team who comes out of the 11th to not be battle tested. Lets check out the matchups! GAME 1 Lexington Catholic vs. Franklin County - This is a rematch of a game that happened just 2 weeks ago at Franklin County. The Knights were victorious in that game by a final margin of 21 but the game was much closer then that for 3 quarters. The Knights are the obvious region favorite coming in at 29-2 and a perfect 15-0 against 11th Region competition this season. Lexington Catholic is lead by junior Ben Johnson and his 25.4 points per game this season. Catholic has been a stellar defensive team all season long as well and this might be Coach Salsman's best pressing team in a decade. Look for big time contributions from Jack Gohmann and Luke Wedding as well if the Knights are to make a deep run this March. The Flyers have had an up and down season dealing with a slew of injuries and illness but found the right time to come together in the district tournament to get by Western Hills. FC dropped the championship game to Frankfort, a team they swept during the regular season, to find themselves drawing a winner and it just happened to be Lexington Catholic. The Flyers are lead by Zac Cox and Joe Meador but also rely heavily on big man Phillip Peiffer. The Flyers are an intriguing matchup for Lexington Catholic because they have the size to give any team fits. PREDECTION - The Knights are the clear favorite here and being at home does nothing but increase those odds. I believe Lexington Catholic will win this one big but the Flyers will keep it tight through the first half. The Knights and their players seem to know what time it is based on their performances in the 43rd District tournament where they steam rolled two good teams in route to the championship. Lexington Catholic 77 Franklin County 60 GAME 2 Frederick Douglass vs. Berea - Probably the most uneven matchup of the first round with Frederick Douglass being heavily favored. These two teams did not meet during the regular season but have some common opponents. This is the first appearance for Frederick Douglass in the regional tournament in school history and they definitely earned it. Coming into the district tournament as a 4 seed, the Broncos had to win 2 games to qualify. They did so by beating Sayre and then pulling the most unlikely upset in the region by getting by Henry Clay in double overtime. Junior DeShawn Jackson is averaging a crisp 33 points per game in the postseason and has taken his game to another level. Also, look for Jaylen Green to show up big if the Broncos look to continue their postseason run. Berea had quite the season going 22-9 and returning to the regional tournament for the first time since the 2005/06 season! The only knock on Berea is they haven't faced much 11th Region talent this season and definitely none the likes of Frederick Douglass. Big man Jaylen Dorsey leads the way for the Pirates but will need some help from Jayden Smith and Timmy Thompson in this one. PREDICTION - Frederick Douglass is playing about as good as anyone left in the 11th Region tournament right now. The style the Broncos play will be too much for Berea to overcome. Douglass wins this one going away. Frederick Douglass 82 Berea 46 GAME 3 Madison Central vs. Tates Creek - This is the best game of the 1st round in my opinion. Madison Central comes in as the champion of the 44th District and Tates Creek returns to the regional tournament for the first time since the 2010/2011 season where ironically they lost to Madison Central in the semi finals. Madison Central was in rebuild mode this season with the loss of a ton of seniors from last season. The season started rough for the Indians but as it went along results started to show improvement. Led by juniors Kole Brown and Brenden Ray the Indians have started to show they are capable of beating just about anyone and with Coach Feldhaus on the sideline you can never count them out. Tates Creek makes its triumphant return to the regional tournament led by seniors Amari Taylor and Cion Townsend. Tates Creek at one point this season was in the conversation for the top team in the region but fell upon hard times down the stretch losing 8 of the last 11 games it played. Some of that has to do with their schedule as they played one of the toughest slates in the region. Coach Gay needs to be commended for totally revamping and turning around the program and getting the Commodores back into the regional tournament. PREDECTION - This game has the potential to be one of the best first round regional tournament games in the entire state. On paper I think most would pencil in Tates Creek as the favorite but not by much. The game being played at Madison Central does become a factor for me along with Coach Feldhaus and his experience in these type of games. Im going with Madison Central by the slimmest of margins. Madison Central 57 Tates Creek 55 GAME 4 Frankfort vs. Scott County - This is another intriguing first round matchup in the 11th region tournament. This is a rematch of last years semi final where the Panthers dang near beat Scott County. Both teams are drastically different but both playing well at the right time. The Panthers have been on quite the run lately having won 13 of their last 16 games and making a run al the way to the final of the All A State Tournament. Led by big man Jackson Twombly and shooter Will O'Bryan, the Panthers are playing with a confidence unlike most teams in the region. They will be a tough out for anyone. Scott County isn't the Scott County of old after being decimated by graduation and a new school in the county but make no mistake they can still play. Senior Terrin Hamilton is one og the best players in the state and a tough matchup for anyone. Scott County has been up and down of late but find themselves once again in the region tournament with a chance to advance. PREDECTION - This is a really hard one for me to pick. The Panthers have been playing so well lately and are playing at home Im not sure Scott County can overcome all of that. On the other hand I think Scott County has the best player on the floor and as they say tradition never graduates!! Im going to give the nod to the Panthers playing at home in a close one. The regular season has come to an end in the state of Kentucky and everyone's records have reset to 0-0 as we enter postseason play! Once again the 11th Region will provide some strong contenders for a state championship run. What has seemed to be a two horse race since Christmas hasnt changed much this week. Lets check out what to expect this upcoming week when the district tournaments begin. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (27-2) - The Knights finished an out standing regular season by knocking off two of the traditional 12th region powers this week, getting wins over Lincoln County and Wayne County. Ben Johnson had an All State caliber season for Lexington Catholic and looks to lead his team to a region championship. The Knights secured the 1 seed in the always tough 43rd District and will receive a bye. Lexington Catholic will take on the winner of the 4/5 game between Paul Laurence Dunbar and Lafayette. 2. Henry Clay (24-5) - The Blue Devils just cant seem to lose since the calendar turned to 2020. This past week Henry Clay increased its winning streak to 18 games with 3 wins over Scott County, Lafayette, and Taylor County. The Blue Devils seems to be the only real threat to Lexington Catholic in the region and hopefully we get that matchup in the region final! Congrats to senior Marques Warrick as he became Henry Clay's all time leading scorer this past week an absolute amazing accomplishment considering the talent that has been through that school! Henry Clay is the 1 seed in the 42nd District tournament and receives a bye. They will play the winner of Sayre and Frederick Douglass who play in the 4/5 game of the district tournament. 3. Tates Creek (15-12) - The Commodores take the #3 spot by default this week. They dropped their only game of the week last week to Great Crossing. The good news for Tates Creek is they are the 2 seed in the upcoming 43rd District tournament. Tates Creek will take on Lexington Christian Academy, the two teams have split their season series this year with LCA winning the last game just last week. 4. Lexington Christian Academy (18-11) - The Eagles finished off the season this week going 2-1 with wins over Anderson County and Bryan Station and a loss to Trinity on the road. The Eagles have been playing good basketball lately having won 7 of their last 10 games. The Eagles will face off with Tates Creek in the 2/3 game in the 43rd District tournament. The Eagles beat the Commodores just two weeks ago and I expect the next game to be a battle! 5. Paul Laurence Dunbar (12-17) - The Bulldogs might be the hottest team in the region outside the top 2 teams. This past week PLD picked up wins over West Jessamine and Scott County. The bad news for the Bulldogs is they are locked in as the 4 seed in the 43rd District tournament due to poor performances early in the season. The Bulldogs will face Lafayette in the opening round of the district tournament and will have a tough road to qualify for the regional tournament. 6. Scott County (15-15) - The Cardinals finished the season this week by beating Sayre and dropping close games to Henry Clay and Paul Laurence Dunbar. The good news for the Cardinals is they are locked in at the 2 seed in the 42nd District tournament this week. Some more good news for Scott County is they will be facing Bryan Station who slipped past Douglass for the 3 seed. Scott County has defeated Bryan Station twice this year while dropping 2 games to Frederick Douglass along the way. I expect the Defenders to give Scott County all they want though! 7. Madison Central (12-17) - The Indians dropped their last two games of the season. Even though they were losses they came to quality teams in Covington Catholic and South Laurel. This week the Indians start the postseason against Madison Southern in the 44th District tournament. The 44th still draws unlike other districts in the 11th Region. The Indians and Eagles used to play to begin the season but that no longer happens. This will be their first meeting this season. Madison Central is probably the favorite but it is very very close. 8. Frederick Douglass (17-11) - The Broncos had the worst case scenario this week as they lost to Bryan Station and dropped to the 4 seed in the 42nd District tournament. They also dropped a game to Lafayette. The Broncos had an amazing start to the season going 9-1 in their first 10 games but since then are only 8-10. By dropping to the 4 seed they will now face Sayre with the winner taking on the hottest team in the region, Henry Clay. 9. Madison Southern (16-13) - The Eagles picked up 2 nice wins this week over Franklin County and Corbin. Madison Southern will enter the 44th District tournament riding a 4 game win streak as they take on the Madison Central Indians. The 44th does not seed, they draw and arguably the two best teams drew each other this year in Madison Central and Madison Southern. This will be the first meeting of the two teams this season. 10. Franklin County (15-14) - The Flyers had a rough week to end the season dropping a close road game to Madison Southern then losing at home to Anderson County while missing Joe Meador due to sickness. The Flyers will enter the 41st District tournament as the 2 seed and also are the host this season. Franklin County will play Western Hills to start the tournament. The two teams split this season with Franklin County taking the most recent contest. Throw the records out the window when these crosstown rivals meet though. Should be a great game. 11. Great Crossing (14-16) - The Warhawks had been struggling a bit lately but picked up a HUGE momentum building win this past week by beating Tates Creek on the road in a regionla tournament atmosphere type of game. To end the week they dropped a game to 8th Region favorite Oldham County. Great Crossing will enter the 41st District tournament as the 1 seed and play the winner of Frankfort and Frankfort Christian Academy in the semi finals. 12. Frankfort (15-15) - The Panthers lost their only contest this week on the road to Shelby County. Frankfort has had quite the season at one point in the middle of the season the Panthers had a 9 game losing streak and then turned it around to make a run all the way to the All A State Championship game!! The Panthers open up district tournament play against Frankfort Christian Academy and then likely will advance to play Great Crossing. Frankfort split the season series with the Warhawks. 13. Bryan Station (12-17) - The Defenders finished off the regular season going 1-2 in their final week but won the biggest game of the week by beating Frederick Douglass and pushing them to the 3 seed in the 42nd District tournament and a matchup with Scott County. Bryan Station lost both times to Scott County this season but both games were close and I expect the third matchup to be the same. 14. Lafayette (10-20) - The Generals have had a lack luster season but finished it nicely this past week with a win over Frederick Douglass and close loss to Henry Clay. Coming up Lafayette will take on Paul Laurence Dunbar in the 4/5 game of the 43rd District tournament. The Generals dropped both games this season to PLD but I wouldnt be surprised if they were able to sneak by the Bulldogs this time to meet Lexington Catholic. I also wouldnt be surprised if they did not! 15. Berea (21-8) - The Pirates had an outstanding year and finished strong this past week by picking up wins over Heritage Academy, Western Hills, and Frankfort Christian Academy. If the Pirates wouldve played more 11th Region competition they would be higher but they did not so its really hard to move them up any. This week the Pirates will face off with Model in the 44th District tournament. I expect Berea to advance to the district final which will result in them playing at least 2 games against much rougher 11th region competition and hopefully we can see where they really stand. 16. Sayre (16-14) - The Spartans finished the season strong with a 2-1 week. A loss to Scott County early was overshadowed by wins over Kentucky Country Day and Wolfe County. The win over Wolfe County was the Wolves only loss at home this season. The Spartans have a tall task this week as they open up 42nd District tournament play in the 4/5 game against Frederick Douglass. The Broncos are struggling a bit so maybe Sayre can pull an upset! 17. Western Hills (14-16) - The Wolverines are sputtering across the finish line after starting the season on fire. Western Hills has lost 5 of their last 7 games including 2 this past week to Berea and Paris. Western Hills is the 3 seed in the 41st District tournament and will face rival Franklin County for a chance to advance to the regional tournament for the first time in over a decade. 18. Model (10-20) - The Patriots split their final two regular season games falling to Jackson County but beating Powell County. Model will start of district tournament play with Berea, probably the best possible matchup for them. Model and Berea played once this year with the Pirates coming away with a 2 point victory. Expect a good game this week. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (2-26) - The Royals picked up their second win of the season this week over Kentucky School for the Deaf and then fell to Williamstown and Berea. The Roylas will open up 41st District play with Frankfort High. As we enter the final week of the season in the 11th Region the top contenders for the region crown have risen to the top. Once again who really knows where or who to rank after the top 2 but thats why they play the games! District seeding is set in 3 of the 4 districts but the 42nd remains unfinished. Lets check out whats happened this past week in the 11th Region. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (25-2) - The Knights continue their dominance over 11th Region teams this past week as they went 2-0 on the road with wins over Lexington Christian Academy and Franklin County. Lexington Catholic is now 13-0 in 11th region games this season. Ben Johnson continues to lead the Knights while others have been solid contributors all season including Jack Gohman and Luke Wedding. This week Lexington Catholic finishes up regular season play with 12th region opponents Lincoln County and Wayne County. Some nice tests to end the season. 2. Henry Clay (21-5) - The Blue Devils just roll right along this week and extend their winning streak to 15 games! Henry Clay hasnt lost since the calendar turned to 2020 and this week was quite an impressive week! The Blue Devils finished the week 3-0 with a HUGE overtime win over Ballard then knocked off Paul Laurence Dunbar and Woodford County. Henry Clay seems to be destined for a showdown with Lexington Catholic at some point this season and very well might be the only team who can challenge the Knights. This week the Blue Devils finish the regular season with 3 home games against Scott County, Lafayette, and Taylor County. 3. Frederick Douglass (17-9) - The Broncos finished the week 2-1 with wins over Sayre and Tates Creek and a loss to an improving Paul Laurence Dunbar team. Douglass has a huge week ahead with a showdown with Bryan Station and a visit from Lafayette. A win over Station would ensure the Broncos the 2 seed in the 42nd District, a loss would leave them needing some help from other district teams. Also, congrats to junior DeShawn Jackson on scoring the 1,000th point of his career this past week! 4. Tates Creek (15-11) - The Commodores had a rough week going 1-2 with a win over Paul Laurence Dunbar and losses to Frederick Douglass and Lexington Christian Academy. Tates Creek is locked in as the 2 seed in the 43rd District tournament and will face LCA in the 2/3 game. Having lost to LCA this past week the Commodores cant feel too comfortable heading into that game but expect them to be favored. This week Tates Creek hosts Great Crossing in its only game. 5. Lexington Christian Academy (16-10) - The Eagles finished the week 1-1 in 43rd District games picking up a win over Tates Creek and falling to rival Lexington Catholic. The Eagles will face Tates Creek again in a weeks time in the first round of the 43rd District tournament. This week to finish the season LCA hosts Anderson County before heading to Bryan Station and Trinity. 6. Scott County (14-13) - The Cardinals had a fantastic week going 3-0 with 20 point wins over Franklin County, Great Crossing, and Johnson Central. Scott County currently sets as the 3 seed in the 42nd District but faces off with Sayre and Henry Clay this week to determine exactly where they will end up. They finish the season at home against Paul Laurence Dunbar. 7. Madison Central (12-15) - The Indians split their games this past week falling in a close one to Lexington Catholic in overtime and picking up a nice win over Walton Verona. The 44th District does not seed their district tournament and this week was the draw. Madison Central drew Madison Southern in the first round which should prove to be an exciting game. This week Madison Central finishes the season with a trip to South Laurel and hosts Covington Catholic. 8. Paul Laurence Dunbar (10-17) - The Bulldogs have been playing much better this last couple of weeks and finished this past week at 1-2 with a win over Frederick Douglass and losses to Henry Clay and Tates Creek. The Bulldogs unfortunately are the 4 seed in the 43rd District and will have a tough road to reach the region tournament. This week the Bulldogs host West Jessamine and head to Scott County to finish the regular season. 9. Franklin County (15-12) - The Flyers have locked themselves in as the 2 seed in the 41st District tournament. This past week they picked up a big win over Berea and fell to Scott County and Lexington Catholic. This week is a tough one for the Flyers as they head to Madison Southern and host Anderson County. 10. Madison Southern (14-13) - The Eagles finished the week 2-1 with an overtime loss at George Rogers Clark and blow out wins over Harlan County and Nicholas County. As mentioned above the Eagles drew Madison Central in the 44th District tournament. This week Madison Southern ends the season with home games against Franklin County and Corbin. 11. Great Crossing (13-15) - The Warhawks have been struggling recently but are locked in as the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament. This past week they picked up a win over Frankfort Christian Academy and lost to Frankfort and Scott County. More then likely the Warhawks will face Frankfort in the 41st District tournament. This week Great Crossing faces tough foes in a trip to Tates Creek and a home game against 8th region favorite Oldham County. 12. Frankfort (15-14) - The Panthers picked up 2 nice wins over Paris and Great Crossing this week. The Panthers lost the coin flip with Western Hills for the 3 seed this past week but might end up being a better option for Frankfort as they just beat Great Crossing this week. Up next for Frankfort is a trip to Shelby County to end the season. 13. Lafayette (9-19) - The Generals went 2-0 this week with two nice wins over Bryan Station and Trinity. Unfortunately for the Generals they are locked in at the 5 seed in the 43rd District tournament and will face a tough road to reach the regional tournament. This week Lafayette heads to Frederick Douglass and Henry Clay. 14. Bryan Station (11-15) - The Defenders split their games this past week falling to Lafayette and beating Boyle County. Up next the Defenders host Frederick Douglass and Lexington Christian. With a win over Douglass and some help from other teams the Defenders could end up as the 3 seed but need a lot of help. 15. Western Hills (13-14) - The Wolverines went 1-2 last week with losses to Shelby County and Estill County and a win over Nicholas County. Also, the Wolverines won the coin flip with Frankfort and will be the 3 seed and face Franklin County in the 41st District tournament first round. This week Western Hills heads to Mercer County then host Berea and Paris to finish the season. 16. Berea (18-7) - The Pirates finished the week 1-2 with losses to Corbin and Franklin County and picked up a win over Danville Christian. The biggest win of the week for the Pirates was the draw as they avoided both Madison Central and Madison Southern and will play Model in the first round of the 44th District tournament. This week Berea hosts Heritage Academy and Frankfort Christian and travels to Western Hills. 17. Sayre (14-13) - The Spartans picked up 2 wins this week over St. Francis and Fleming County both on the road. Locked in at the 5 seed in the 42nd District their opponent in the district tournament is yet to be determined. This week Sayre faces Scott County, Wolfe County, and Kentucky Country Day. 18. Model (9-19) - The Patriots went 1-2 this week with a loss to Danville and a win over Harlan County and Wellspring Guardians. Also, The Patriots avoided Madison Central and Madison Southern in the 44th District tournament and will face Berea. This week they face Jackson County and Powell County. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (1-23) - The Royals went 0-3 with losses to Highlands Latin, Danville Christian, and June Buchanan. This week FCA ends the season with Heritage Academy, Williamstown, Berea, and Kentucky School for the Deaf.

The weather and sickness ruled the week in the 11th Region as some big time district matchups had to be moved due to illness and schools being closed in Fayette County. However the games that were played this week and weekend have helped to paint the picture of how this region will play out. It has become clear that at this point it is a 2 team race to Rupp Arena and baring some sort of unforeseen circumstances the Knights or the Blue Devils should represent the Region this season. As I said last week I am convinced you could throw around 10 teams in a hat and rank the 3-13 spots in this region! Lets check out what happened this week in the 11th Region! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (22-2) - The Knights had yet another impressive week picking up blowout victories over Lafayette and Trinity. Lexington Catholic is in the midst of a 5 game winning streak and have won 10 of the last 11 games they have played. Having sewn up the 1 seed in the 43rd District tournament the Knights look to continue their season of dominance this week as they host Madison Central then head to Lexington Christian and Franklin County to end the week. Ben Johnson continues to have a stealer season and has thrust himself into consideration for a 1st Team All State nomination. 2. Henry Clay (18-5) - The Blue Devils are showing why most people had them either at or near the top of the region at the beginning of the season. Having run their win streak to an impressive 12 games Henry Clay picked up wins this week over Madison Central and John Hardin. The win over John Hardin was quite impressive as it was only John's 2nd loss on the season. Marques Warrick continues to shine this year and with the help of Sebian Dillard and Marquis Mackey the Blue Devils look to be the biggest challenge to Lexington Catholic for the region crown. This week Henry Clay has 4 games on the schedule all at home as they host Ballard, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Woodford County, and Belfry. 3. Tates Creek (14-9) - The Commodores get the 3 spot this week mostly because nobody else seems to want to claim it at this point. This past week Tates Creek dropped both games but they played some stellar competition as they hosted Lexington Catholic and traveled to Oldham County. Things get no easier this week as the Commodores host Lexington Christian Academy and Frederick Douglass. 4. Frederick Douglass (16-8) - The Broncos got back on the winning track this week as they picked up a win over Sayre before having their previously scheduled district matchup with Bryan Station cancelled due to illness. Douglass has had a nice season thus far and has a great chance to make the 11th Region tournament for the first time in school history but it looks like they will have to beat Scott County to do it. This week the Broncos host Paul Laurence Dunbar and then head to Tates Creek. 5. Lexington Christian Academy (15-9) - The Eagles did themselves a HUGE favor this week by picking up a win over Lafayette. That win secured them the 3 seed in the 43rd District Tournament and kept them out of the play in game. Also, this week they dropped a game on the road to an improving Franklin County team and then bounced back with a nice win over CAL on the road. This week the Eagles head to Tates Creek in what should be a preview of the 2/3 game for the district tournament and then host their rival Lexington Catholic. 6. Madison Central (11-14) - The Indians had a nice week picking up 2 wins over Harrison County and Seneca and dropping a game to a good Henry Clay team. Junior Brayden Ray hit a game winner as the clock expired on Saturday against Seneca. This week Madison Central heads to Lexington Catholic and hosts Walton Verona. 7. Great Crossing (12-13) - The Warhawks had a tough week dropping 2 games to Woodford County and Fern Creek. Having already locked up the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament Great Crossing is just waiting to see who their potential opponent could be as things in the 41st are far from locked up. Three Games on the schedule this week for Great Crossing as they host Frankfort Christian, travel to Frankfort, and then host crosstown rival Scott County on Friday! 8. Scott County (11-13) - The Cardinals played only one game this past week and dropped a close one to a good Simon Kenton team. This week is packed with 3 games as they host Franklin County, head down the road to Great Crossing, and then host Johnson Central over the weekend. The game against Great Crossing should be the big attraction in town Friday night. 9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (9-15) - The Bulldogs ran their win streak to 4 this week by picking up a win on the road over Madison Southern before having the 43rd District matchup with Tates Creek moved due to county wide illness. This week PLD heads to Frederick Douglass and Henry Clay and possibly has the makeup game with Tates Creek. A tough week ahead for the improving Bulldogs. 10. Franklin County (14-10) - The Flyers had an outstanding week this past week picking up wins over Lexington Christian Academy, Owen County, and Frankfort. The win over rival Frankfort ensured the Flyers will be the 2 seed in the upcoming 41st District tournament with an opponent yet to be determined. This week the Flyers have a tough week as they head to Scott County and then host a surprising Berea team before the top team in the region Lexington Catholic comes to FC. 11. Madison Southern (12-12) - The Eagles finished the week 1-1 with a win over Central Kentucky Homeschool and then dropped a close one at home to Paul Laurence Dunbar. This week for Madison Southern they head to George Rogers Clark, host Harlan County, and finish the week at Nicholas County. 12. Frankfort (13-14) - The Panthers finished the week 1-1 with a big win over a short handed Western Hills and then dropped a close one at Franklin County. Frankfort still has a chance as the 3 seed in the district but need to help themselves this week. The Panthers start the week hosting Great Crossing and with a win would force a coin flip with Western Hills for the 3 seed and then invite Paris over to Frankfort to end the week. 13. Bryan Station (10-14) - The Defenders were idle last week as their previously scheduled games were all canceled due to sickness and Fayette County schools being closed. Bryan Station is scheduled to visit Lafayette this week and host Boyle County but at some point they will need to make up last week's Frederick Douglass game for district seeding purposes. 14. Lafayette (7-19) - The Generals dropped 3 games last week all to quality competition in Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, and South Oldham. The Generals are locked in with Paul Laurence Dunbar in the 4/5 game in the 43rd District tournament. This week Lafayette continues its tough schedule as they host Bryan Station and Trinity. 15. Berea (17-5) - The Pirates are in the midst of a 7 game win streak and added to that this week by defeating Nicholas County and St. Patrick. An argument could be made the Pirates should be higher but with only having played 4 11th region teams and going 2-2 with the wins being Model and Frankfort Christian its hard to argue they should be any higher. This week will provide them an opportunity to move up as they head to Corbin and Franklin County before returning home to face Danville Christian. 16. Western Hills (12-12) - The Wolverines have lost 4 of their last 5 and some of the magic they had early in the season has seemed to leave them now. This week they did pick up a win over Bluegrass United before falling to Frankfort in a game where second leading scorer Eric Gabbard was not available to play. This week the Wolverines head to Estill County, Shelby County, and host Nicholas County. 17. Sayre (12-13) - The Spartans finished the week 1-2 with a win over Dayton and two losses to Frederick Douglass and Atherton. This week Sayre heads to St. Francis and Fleming County. 18. Model (6-18) - The Patriots split this week with a win over Casey County and a loss to Paris. This week they host Danville, Wellspring Guardians, and Harlan County. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (1-19) - The Royals dropped games to Burgin, Beth Haven, and Portland Christian this week. Up next they head to Great Crossing and Highlands Latin before hosting Danville Christian and June Buchanan to end the week. Hardin rolled his previously injured ankle late in the 3rd quarter at Carroll County Thursday night. From what I hear its a day to day thing and hopefully not as serious as the previous injury. Hope for a quick steady recovery for him.

Big District match ups took the headlines this week in the 11th Region. After some other results around the region I'm convinced you could take 7-8 teams and throw them in a hat to rank teams 3-10. The top two teams in the region have cemented themselves as the cream of the crop and some of our lower ranked teams picked up some impressive wins. Lets check out what all happened this week in the 11th Region! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (20-2) - The Knights only played 1 game this past week but it was a HUGE one as they traveled to Tates Creek and left with not only an impressive 14 point win but more importantly they clinched the 1 seed in the 43rd District. Junior Ben Johnson finished with 31 points 8 rebounds and 8 assists, all after not scoring a single point in the 1st quarter!! The Knights are 9-0 against region foes this season and have some impressive wins against teams from all over the state, they are by far the favorite to win the 11th Region at this point and make a deep run at Rupp Arena. This week the Knights hit the road to Lafayette early in the week then host Trinity to end the week, another week full of challenges for the Knights! 2. Henry Clay (16-5) - The Blue Devils have ran their current win streak to 10 games and picked up 3 more wins this past week. Henry Clay took down Bell County, Lafayette, and Clay County to improve their overall record to 16-5. Senior Marques Warrick continues to pace the Blue Devils pouring in just over 22 points a game but he isnt the only player that has stepped up for Henry Clay lately. Sebian Dillard and Marques Mackey have really stepped up their game over the past month to propel the Blue Devils up the rankings. This week Henry Clay hosts traditional 11th Region powers Madison Central and Scott County then head over to Lafayette for a big time match up with top 5 John Hardin!! 3. Frederick Douglass (15-8) - The Broncos dropped 2 close games on the road this week to quality competition in Madison Central and Scott County. It was the third meeting in 2 weeks for the Broncos with the Cardinals and Scott County was able to pull this one out. As things stand right now the Broncos and the Cardinals would meet for a 4th time in the first round of the district tournament in a 2/3 game. This week Frederick Douglass finishes off their district schedule with a home game against Bryan Station and a trip to Sayre. 4. Tates Creek (14-9) - The Commodores finished one of their toughest weeks at 1-2! Tates Creek picked up a nice win over 10th region power George Rogers Clark but then fell to Lexington Catholic and Oldham County to end the week. That was a week of 3 games against 3 region favorites. The loss to Catholic means Tates Creek will be the 2 seed in the 43rd District tournament with their opponent yet to be determined. This week the Commodores hit the road to Bryan Station and Paul Laurence Dunbar on back to back nights. Another good test for Tates Creek. 5. Lexington Christian Academy (13-8) - The Eagles only played one game this past week and picked up a 1 point win over a much improved Madison Southern team on the road. LCA still has a chance at being the 3 seed in the 43rd District tournament but could also drop all the way to the 5 seed! This week will go a long way in determining that. LCA is on the road all week as they head to Franklin County, Lafayette, and Christian Academy of Louisville. The game against Lafayette is the big one but two other games against solid competition for the Eagles this week! 6. Scott County (11-12) - The Cardinals move up the rankings this week as they picked up wins over Frederick Douglass and Bryan Station and dropped a close one to top 10th region team Bourbon County. The Cardinals are starting to play better basketball led by senior Terrin Hamilton but Elias Richardson and Aaron Leake have started to shoulder the load as well to balance out the scoring attack. This week Scott County heads to Henry Clay to face off with their 42nd District rival then this weekend they have an intriguing match up with Simon Kenton at the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette. 7. Madison Central (9-13) - The Indians finished the week 1-2 and but picked up a nice win over Frederick Douglass before dropping two games to Trinity and Pikeville. Both of which are solid teams and their is no shame in losing to either. Madison Central has a busy week with 3 games on the schedule as they head to Henry Clay and Harrison County then end the week at home against Seneca. 8. Madison Southern (11-11) - The Eagles have been much improved this year under second year head coach Austin Newton. This past week Madison Southern picked up a win over Great Crossing and dropped two close games to Lexington Christian and West Jessamine. A full week of games this week for the Eagles as they host Central Kentucky Homeschool and Paul Laurence Dunbar then hit the road to Clinton County which is always a tough place to play! 9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (8-15) - The Bulldogs had their best week of the season by far this past week as they finished the week 3-0. The three wins for Dunbar came over Lafayette, Bryan Station, and St. Xavier. Dunbar is still in contention for the 3 seed in the 43rd District tournament but as mentioned before they could also fall all the way to the 5 seed. This week PLD heads to Madison Southern and then hosts Tates Creek in a crucial 43rd District seed game for them! 10. Great Crossing (12-11) - The Warhawks finished the week 1-1 but the win was a big one as they clinched the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament. In their first season Great Crossing is currently 17-0 against district competition at all levels(Freshmen, JV, Varsity), a pretty neat stat for a first year program. This week Great Crossing will host two quality opponents in Woodford County and Fern Creek! 11. Frankfort (12-13) - The Panthers picked up a big win in their only game this week over district foe Frankfort Christian Academy. Currently the Panthers are set as the 4 seed in the 41st District but this week could change all that as they host Western Hills and then head to Franklin County. A win in both games would propel the Panthers into the 2 seed and cause chaos for the rest of the district. A big week in the 41st! 12. Franklin County (11-10) - The Flyers picked up two wins this week over Western Hills and Model. The win over Western Hills gives the Flyers a leg up on being the 2 seed in the district tournament but still have some work to do. This week is a full week of games for Franklin County as they host Lexington Christian, Owen County, and Frankfort before heading to Thomas Nelson to end the week. 13. Lafayette (7-16) - The Generals take a hit this week after dropping both games to Paul Laurence Dunbar and Henry Clay. They are also in a position where they could finish as high as the 3 seed or as low as the 5 seed in the 43rd District tournament. This week Lafayette hosts Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian. The results of those games will determine a lot in the 43rd District. 14. Western Hills (10-11) - The Wolverines had a rough week dropping all 3 games to Great Crossing, Franklin County, and Danville. The losses to Great Crossing and Franklin County ended the chances of being the 1 seed in the district tournament and has helped to cause all the craziness that might ensue this week in that district. This week the Wolverines are hitting the road as they head to Frankfort and Mercer County. 15. Bryan Station (10-14) - The Defenders plummet in this weeks rankings and are in the midst of a 4 game losing streak after dropping 3 games this week to Fern Creek, Paul Laurence Dunbar, and Scott County. Bryan Station is much improved but are up and down from week to week. This week they host Tates Creek and Frederick Douglass. 16. Berea (15-5) - Berea is in the midst of a 5 game win streak which they extended this past week by beating Burgin, Model, and Bellevue. This week the Pirates have three more winnable games as they host Nicholas County and Rockcastle County and then head to St. Patrick. 17. Sayre (11-11) - The Spartans had a nice week finishing 2-1 with wins over Nicholas County and Owen County and dropped a close one to Bethlehem. This week Sayre heads to Frederick Douglass and then hosts Atherton and Dayton. 18. Model (5-17) - The Patriots dropped all three of their games this week but played much better and were competitive in all 3. They dropped games to Garrard County, Berea, and Franklin County. This week Model will host Paris and Robertson County. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (1-16) - The Royals picked up the first win of the season this past week over Kentucky School for the Deaf but lost 2 games to Nicholas County and Frankfort. This week the Royals Burgin, Beth Haven, and Portland Christian. The 11th Region made some noise this week but not in the traditional way! The Frankfort Panthers made a big run all the way to the finals of the All A State Tournament in Richmond this past week! Congrats to the Panthers on an outstanding week and run at the All A! Not to mention some of the top teams in the region are starting to flex their muscle on a state wide stage. Lets check out what happened this week! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (19-2) - The Knights continue to show why they are the prohibitive favorite in the region and one of the top teams in the state. This past week Lexington Catholic picked up 2 wins on the road over quality competition in East Jessamine and Paul Laurence Dunbar. The win over Dunbar puts the Knights at 5-0 in the 43rd District and in the drivers seat for the ever elusive 1 seed in one of the toughest districts in the state. This week Lexington Catholic can lock themselves down as the 1 seed if they go to Tates Creek in their only scheduled game and get a win early in the week. 2. Henry Clay (13-5) - The Blue Devils had a great week picking up 2 road wins over Tates Creek and Trinity and ran their winning streak to 7 games. Henry Clay is starting to show itself as a prime contender for the Region title and a serious threat to Lexington Catholic. This week Henry Clay stays on the road as they travel to Bell County and Lafayette then host Clay County to end the week. Another big week for Henry Clay and a chance to distance themselves from the pack as a top tier team in the region. 3. Frederick Douglass (15-6) - The Broncos climb up some spots this week after an impressive run at the Toyota Classic. Frederick Douglass captured the championship after hard fought wins over Thomas Nelson, Lafayette, and Scott County. Prior to this season Douglass had never defeated Scott County and they have now done it twice in 10 days! Before the Toyota Classic started the Broncos pulled out a close win at Paul Laurence Dunbar to complete a 4-0 week. This week it gets no easier as the Broncos head to Madison Central and then return to Scott County for the third match up with the Cardinals in nearly 2 weeks. 4. Tates Creek (13-7) - The Commodores drop a spot this week after taking 2 losses to high quality opponents in Henry Clay and John Hardin, both of whom are top 20 teams in the state. Tates Creek continues to impress despite the losses this week and is primed to return to the regional tournament for the first time in nearly a decade. This week will be a HUGE chance to solidify their position as they host top 10th Region team George Rogers Clark and 43rd District rival Lexington Catholic. If the Commodores can beat the Knights they would tie them for the 1 seed in the 43rd District. 5. Great Crossing (11-10) - The Warhawks helped to host this past week's Toyota Classic and finished with a 2-1 record with wins over Thomas Nelson and Wayne County and a close upset loss to Lafayette. The Warhawks have a chance to clinch the 1 seed in the 41st District this week as they head to Western Hills early in the week then travel to Madison Southern on the weekend in what could be an interesting match up. 6. Lexington Christian Academy (12-8) - The Eagles havent played much since they fell in the finals of the 11th Region All A Classic but did manage to pick up a game at East Carter this weekend in which they won by double digits. Only one game on the schedule this week as LCA heads to Madison Southern as part of a 6 game road swing. 7. Bryan Station (10-11) - The Defenders continue to improve this season after starting 1-5. This past week Bryan Station picked up a 42nd District win over Sayre then fought hard against Trinity before eventually falling to the defending state champions. This week is a big week for Station as they host PLD and Fern Creek before heading to face off with Scott County. 8. Madison Central (8-11) - The Indians took on the 12th Region this week and finished 1-1 with a win over West Jessamine and a loss to preseason 12th Region favorite Lincoln County. This week Madison Central hosts Frederick Douglass and Trinity before heading to Pikeville over the weekend to take on a tough 15th Region opponent. 9. Scott County (9-10) - The Cardinals hosted the Toyota Classic this past weekend and fell in the championship game to Frederick Douglass by 1 point. Before falling in the finals the Cardinals picked up wins over Myrtle Beach Christian Academy and Marion County. This week the Cards host Bourbon County, Frederick Douglass, and Bryan Station. 10. Frankfort (11-13) - What a week for the Panthers as they went down to Richmond and finished as the All A State Runner Up. Entering the All A Regional tournament the Panthers had lost 9 straight games. This week at the All A the Panthers picked up wins over Bishop Brossart, Owensboro Catholic, and Murray before falling to St. Henry in the championship game. This week Frankfort has one game on the schedule as they travel to Frankfort Christian Academy. 11. Lafayette (7-14) - The Generals make a huge jump this week after finishing the week 3-1 with a win over Scott County and two nice wins in the Toyota Classic over Great Crossing and Marion County and a narrow triple overtime loss to eventual champion Frederick Douglass. This week the Generals head to 43rd District foe Paul Laurence Dunbar and host long time crosstown rival Henry Clay. 12. Western Hills (10-8) - The Wolverines picked up 2 wins this past week over Model and Casey County. This is a HUGE week for Western Hills as they host Great Crossing and head across town to rival Franklin County. If the Wolverines win both of those games they will be tied for the 1 seed in the 41st District. 13. Franklin County (9-10) - The Flyers started the week off with a win over Shelby County but followed that up with back to back losses to North Bullitt and Montgomery County. This week Franklin County hosts Western Hills in a huge 41st District seeding match up, the Flyers end the week with Model. 14. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-15) - The Bulldogs are in the midst of a 7 game losing streak and dropped both of their games last week to Frederick Douglass and Lexington Catholic. This week Dunbar hosts Lafayette before headed across town to Bryan Station then ending the week with a neutral court game against St. Xavier. 15. Madison Southern (9-9) - The Eagles dropped their only game last week to Montgomery County. This week the Eagles host Boyle County and Lexington Christian before heading to West Jessamine then returning home to face off with Great Crossing. A big week for the Eagles and a chance to jump in the rankings. 16. Berea (12-5) - The Pirates picked up a win in their only game of the week against Jackson County. This week Berea hosts Burgin and Bellevue and heads to Model. 17. Sayre (9-10) - The Spartans won both of their games last week over Paris and Shelby County. Now at full strength the Spartans have a chance to climb up the rankings. This week Sayre plays host to Bethlehem and Nicholas County before playing Owen County on a neutral court at Franklin County. 18. Model (4-14) - The Patriots are in the midst of a 6 game losing streak and dropped 3 games last week to Bourbon County, Whitefield Academy, and Rockcastle County. This week Model plays 4 games as they head to Rockcastle County and Franklin County and host Garrard County and Berea. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-14) - The Royals dropped games to Burgin and Bethlehem last week. This week they host Frankfort and then hit the road to Bracken County, Nicholas County, and Kentucky School for the Deaf.

An exciting and telling week in the 11th Region this past week. Between the 2A and the All A mix in some city and district match ups and the rankings are starting to become more and more clear. Congrats to the Frankfort Panthers on winning the 11th Region All A Classic and to the Lexington Catholic Knights for advancing all the way to the semi finals of the 2A State Tournament. Lets check out what else happened around the region this week! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (17-2) - The Knights had a busy week this past week starting off with a district game against Lafayette that they won then hit the road to Owensboro for the 2A State tournament. The Knights won their first game over Calloway County big then fell to Bourbon County in a close intense game. Worse then the loss for the Knights was Luke Wedding being ejected which will cost him 2 more games and they come at the wrong time as the Knights have a tough schedule this week. Congrats to Ben Johnson and Jack Gohmann for picking up All Tournament Team Honors at the 2A State Championshps. This week the Knights hit the road to face a good and improving East Jessamine team then head down Man O War to play Paul Laurence Dunbar in a 43rd District match up. The Knights are currently the 1 seed in the 43rd District. 2. Henry Clay (11-5) - The Blue Devils picked up 2 wins this week over Bryan Station and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Henry Clay has started to find its stride lately and showing they have a legit chance to challenge Lexington Catholic for the Region title. With the win over Bryan Station, the Blue Devils now sit at 5-1 in the 42nd District and hold onto the 1 seed. This week Henry Clay hits the road to Tates Creek and Trinity. Two good tests for Henry Clay!! 3. Tates Creek (13-5) - The Commodores are playing great basketball having won 8 of their last 9 games!! This past week Tates Creek picked up wins over Paul Laurence Dunbar and Southwestern. The win over Southwestern on the road was particularly impressive. Currently Tates Creek sits at 4-1 in the 43rd District and hold onto the 2 seed. The Commodores have a BIG week coming up as they host Henry Clay and then head to undefeated John Hardin for a tough road game. What a great opportunity for Coach Gay's boys to prove themselves on a state wide stage! 4. Frederick Douglass (11-6) - The Broncos had an interesting week, they finished 2-1 but the loss was a big one. Douglass picked up wins over Scott County and Great Crossing then dropped a huge 42nd District game to Bryan Station. The loss to Bryan Station drops the Broncos district record to 2-2 and puts them behind Henry Clay for the 1 seed. This week Frederick Douglass heads across town to Paul Laurence Dunbar then play in the always tough Toyota Classic hosted by Scott County and Great Crossing. They open up with Thomas Nelson. 5. Lexington Christian Academy (11-8) - The Eagles competed in the 11th Region All A Classic this week looking to defend their title. Things started great as they picked up 2 wins over Frankfort Christian Academy and Sayre but fell on a last second layup in the championship to Frankfort. This week LCA is off and has no games scheduled. 6. Bryan Station (9-10) - The Defenders make the biggest jump of anyone this week and are playing good basketball. This past week Bryan Station dropped a 1 point game to Henry Clay and then picked up 2 nice wins over Frederick Douglass and Knox Central in triple overtime!! Bryan Station has vastly improved from last season and has a legit shot to challenge for the 2nd regional tournament spot out of the 42nd District. This week the Defenders head to Sayre and host Trinity. 7. Great Crossing (9-9) - The Warhawks finished the week 2-1 and the two games they won were HUGE ones. Great Crossing picked up two 41st District wins this past week over Western Hills and Franklin County. This puts the Warhawks at 5-0 in district play and in line for the 1 seed. To finish the week Great Crossing lost on the road to Madison Central where they dug themselves a big hole early they just weren't able to get out of. This week Great Crossing hosts the Toyota Classic along with Scott County. They open up with Lafayette. 8. Madison Central (7-10) - The Indians finished the week 1-1 with a win over Great Crossing and a loss to Scott County. These young Indians continue to improve and seem to be headed right where they want to be come February. Up next for Madison Central is West Jessamine and then a trip to Lincoln County. 9. Madison Southern (9-8) - The Eagles finished the week 1-1 with a win over Garrard County and a loss on a neutral court to Logan County. Congrats to senior Chad Fugate on scoring his 1,000th point this past week!! Up next the Eagles head to Montgomery County for their only game this week. 10. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-13) - The Bulldogs had a rough week falling to Tates Creek, Henry Clay, and Covington Catholic. Tim Hall has returned from injury for the Bulldogs but they still cant seem to find themselves this season. Nothing gets easier as the Bulldogs host Frederick Douglass and Lexington Catholic this week. 11.Scott County (7-10) - The Cardinals continue to struggle this season. Scott County has lost 5 of its last 6 games and this week finished 1-2 with a win over Madison Central and losses to Frederick Douglass and Lafayette. This week the Cardinals host the Toyota Classic along with Great Crossing and they open up with Myrtle Beach Christian Academy. 12. Western Hills (8-8) - The Wolverines had a rough week going 0-2 with losses to Great Crossing and Garrard County. Currently Western Hills sits at 3-1 in the 41st District and in the 2 seed spot. This week the Wolverines host Model then head to Frankfort and Casey County. 13. Franklin County (8-8) - The Flyers finished the week 2-1 with wins over Carroll County and Nicholas County but dropped a tough 41st District game to Great Crossing. This week the Flyers host Shelby County before heading to North Bullitt and Montgomery County. Some good road tests for Franklin County. 14. Frankfort (8-12) - The Panthers snapped a 9 game losing streak in a BIG way this week by winning 3 games this week to capture the 11th Region All A Championship. Those wins were over Berea, Model, and Lexington Christian Academy. This week the Panthers will compete in the All A State Tournament where they open with Bishop Brossart, also they are scheduled to play Western Hills Friday night but that might have to be moved depending on the outcomes at the All A State Tournament. 15. Lafayette (5-13) - The Generals snapped a 5 game losing streak this week!! Early in the week they fell to Lexington Catholic but bounced back nicely to pick up a win over Scott County on the road!! This week Lafayette heads to the Toyota Classic in Georgetown where they open up with one of the hosts, Great Crossing. 16. Berea (11-5) - The Pirates finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Frankfort in the 11th Region All A tournament and a big win over Evangel Christian. This week Berea hosts Jackson County, Danville Christian, and Frankfort Christian. 17. Sayre (7-9) - The Spartans lost their only game this past week to Lexington Christian Academy in the 11th Region All A tournament. This week Sayre hosts Bryan Station and Paris and heads to Shelby County. 18. Model (4-11) - The Patriots dropped their only game of the week last week as well to Frankfort in the 11th Region All A tournament. This week Model hits the road to Western Hills, Bourbon County, and Whitefield Academy. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-12) - The Royals lost 3 games this past week to Lexington Christian, Walden, and Henry County. This week Frankfort Christian heads to Burgin and then hosts Bethlehem and Berea. The season continues to grind on in the 11th Region. After the dust has settled from Christmas tournaments and other events most of our 11th Region teams have started to play in region and district games. One would think this would start to give us a more clear picture of the region as a whole but after this week I am not sure what to really expect anymore. Other then the top spot you could make an argument for numerous teams to be ranked anywhere from 2-10. Lets check out what went on this week and whats on deck for next! TEAM RANKINGS 1. Lexington Catholic (15-1) - The Knights picked up 3 quality wins this week over Lexington Christian Academy, Boyle County, and Mercer County. The last two games of the week were part of the 2A Sectional tournament and granted Lexington Catholic a birth in this weeks 2A State tournament in Owensboro. The most important win of the week though has to be the first one over LCA which kept the Knights undefeated at 3-0 in the 43rd District and in prime position to be the 1 seed in the district tournament. Also, this week junior Ben Johnson verbally committed to Bellarmine, congrats to him!! Up next for the Knights is another big week. Lexington Catholic hosts Lafayette early in the week in another 43rd District battle then heads to Owensboro for the 2A state tournament where they open with Calloway County. Looking ahead the Knights could also meet up with Bourbon County and John Hardin while in Owensboro. 2. Henry Clay (9-5) - Henry Clay continues to play great basketball and is rounding into the form most of us expected as the beginning of the season. This week the Blue Devils picked up two HUGE wins over 42nd District competition with wins over Frederick Douglass and Scott County. With those wins Henry Clay is now the front runner for the 1 seed in the district which is always a big deal in the 42nd. The Blue Devils are in the midst of a brutal stretch where they play 8 games in a row on the road. This week they head over to Bryan Station for another big district matchup, go to Dunbar which is always a tough game between those 2 teams, and finish the week at Clay County against a solid Tiger team. A great chance for Henry Clay to cement themselves as one of the top teams in the region. 3. Tates Creek (11-5) - The Commodores continue to play really good basketball this season. This past week they went 2-1 with wins over Woodford County and Lafayette and dropped a close one to a good Bourbon County. Currently, Tates Creek sits at 3-1 in the 43rd District and holds the 2 seed. Its been a long time since Tates Creek has qualified for the region tournament but they are well on their way this season! Up next for the Commodores they host Paul Laurence Dunbar, who they've previously beaten but wasn't counted as a district win due to it being in a Christmas tournament, and then head to Southwestern this weekend. 4. Lexington Christian Academy (9-7) - The Eagles split their two 43rd District games this week with a close loss to Lexington Catholic and a 1 point win over Paul Laurence Dunbar. Currently LCA sits at 2-3 in the 43rd District which puts them as the 3 seed. The Eagles in my opinion have grossly over achieved this season with all they lost to graduation the last 2 years. Up next for LCA is the 11th Region All A Classic where they host and will be favored. They open up with Frankfort Christian Academy. 5. Frederick Douglass (10-5) - The Broncos split their 2 games this week. They dropped a game early in the week to Henry Clay which dropped them to the 2 seed in the district but bounced back nicely to beat a good Great Crossing team. Douglass was in the midst of a 4 game losing streak until the win over Great Crossing. DaShawn Jackson had a big game against GC. This week the Broncos host Scott County and Bryan Station in 2 HUGE 42nd District games. 6. Great Crossing (7-8) - The Warhawks finished the week 1-2 with a win over Frankfort and losses to Trinity and Frederick Douglass. Not the results they wanted throughout the week but the win over Frankfort was big in that it puts Great Crossing at 2-0 in the 41st District and still in control of their own destiny as far as seeding goes. This week a HUGE game Tuesday night against a much improved Western Hills team who is also currently undefeated in 41st District play, then they head to Franklin County in another 41st District game before heading to Madison Central over the weekend. 7. Madison Central (6-9) - The Indians split their 2 games this week with a win over Paul Laurence Dunbar and a loss to Logan County at a neutral site. Madison Central, while not having the best looking record, has drastically improved since the beginning of the season. This week the Indians head to Scott County before hosting Great Crossing to end the week. 8. Bryan Station (7-9) - The Defenders only played one game last week but they picked up a big win over Lafayette. The Defenders are really playing well and Coach Hammons has done a great job in a short time of making this young group competitive. This week Bryan Station hosts Henry Clay and Knox Central and heads to Frederick Douglass. A chance for the Defenders to solidify themselves in the race for the 1 seed in the 42nd District. 9. Madison Southern (8-6) - The Eagles picked up two wins this week over Model and Berea. While those two wins don't jump off the page at you the win over Berea is a little more impressive then normal as the Pirates are playing well. Madison Southern is playing well having won 4 of their last 5. This week the Eagles host East Jessamine, Garrard County, and head to Southwestern to play Logan County in the Iron Warrior Classic. 10. Western Hills (8-6) - The Wolverines finished the week 1-2 with a win over Henry County and losses to East Jessamine and Christian Academy of Louisville. Western Hills play CAL tough in the 2A section final but fell just short down the stretch. This week is about as big a week for Western Hills as they've had in 15 years. The Wolverines currently sit at 4-0 in 41st District play and are tied with Great Crossing for the 1 seed. Great Crossing hosts the Wolverines this Tuesday with the 1 seed on the line. To end the week the Wolverines will host Garrard County. 11. Scott County (6-8) - The Cardinals lost both games they played last week to Henry Clay and Oldham County. I do not believe the Cardinals will finish the season outside of our top 10 but at this moment they haven't done anything to prove they belong higher then this. This week Scott County hosts Madison Central and Lafayette and heads to Frederick Douglass between the two home games. A big week for the Cardinals to bounce back and rise in the rankings. 12. Paul Laurence Dunbar (5-10) - The Bulldogs dropped 2 close home games this week to Madison Central and LCA. Dunbar is currently dealing with an injury to leading scorer Tim Hall and they just cant seem to find their grove this season. Things get no easier for the Bulldogs this week as they head to Tates Creek, host Henry Clay, and finish the week at Covington Catholic. 13. Franklin County (6-7) - The Flyers finished the week 1-1 with a close loss to a good Eastern team and a big rivalry win on the road at Frankfort. Franklin County has yet to play more then 2 games with a full healthy squad and its taken its toll. This week Franklin heads to Carroll County, then hosts Great Crossing and Nicholas County. 14. Lafayette (4-12) - The Generals have lost 6 of their last 7 including 2 games this past week to Bryan Station and Tates Creek. The same old story for Lafayette as they just cant find a complimentary piece for big man Ray Surratt. Things get no easier this week as Lafayette hits the road to Scott County and Lexington Catholic. 15. Berea (10-4) - The Pirates dropped their only game this past week to crosstown rival Madison Southern in a close well played game. This week Berea heads to Frankfort and Evangel Christian. 16. Frankfort (5-12) - The Panthers are in the midst of a 9 game losing streak and dropped both games this past week to 41st District rivals Great Crossing and Franklin County. This week the Panthers host Berea to start off the 11th Region All A Classic. 17. Sayre (7-8) - The Spartans dropped their only game of the week last week a one point loss to Rockcastle County. Sayre opens up play in this weeks 11th Region All A Classic with a bye. 18. Model (4-10) - The Patriots dropped both games last week to West Jessamine and Madison Southern. This week they begin play in the 11th Region All A Classic with a bye. 19. Frankfort Christian Academy (0-9) - The Royals continue to remain winless on the season. This week they dropped games to St. Francis, Owen County, and Beth Haven. Up next the Royals open play in the 11th Region All A Classic with LCA.
