  1. The 11th Region tournament field is now set. Frankfort Woodford County Henry Clay Scott County Paul Laurence Dunbar Lexington Christian Academy Madison Southern Madison Central
  2. PLD continues to roll and is now in the 43rd District Championship against LCA Friday night. Gadd led the way with 26 points and Van Dyke chipped in 13. PLD led 18-5 after the 1st quarter and 36-18 at the half.
  3. Austin did play for Montgomery County. This was a good game. Bourbon led 18-17 at the half and the game was tied 34-34 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Bourbon blitzed Montgomery in the 4th quarter to run away with the win. Montgomery had previously defeated Bourbon twice this season but the second time Bourbon was missing 3 starters due to suspension. Bourbon and Clark will be a great game.
  4. Freshman Tim Hall has a monster game for PLD. Tates Creek took a 40-36 lead late in the 3rd Quarter but PLD responded with a quick 7-0 run and took control from there.
  5. A chink in the armor? Is it possible that the previous untouchable might have opened the door this week for some of the contenders? Another regular season has come and gone in the BEST region in the state of Kentucky, the mighty 11th!! All year long it seemed as if the region was an open and shut case but maybe just maybe that isn't the case anymore. One thing is for sure the postseason is always special in the 11th and this year should be no different. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (28-2) - The week started of about as normal as it has all year for the Cardinals as they disposed of Covington Holy Cross by a score of 106-55 on senior night. The real story of the week is the end of the week when Scott County traveled to PLD and came home with their first in state loss of the season and first regular season in state loss since December of 2016! A crazy stat for this senior class at Scott County, in 4 years they are a combined 125-16 and 3 of those losses have come to PLD. Not sure anyone would think that. The good news for Scott County is senior big man Michael Moreno will return this week during the 42nd District tournament. The Cardinals will play the winner of Frederick Douglass and Sayre to open up postseason play. 2. Henry Clay (24-5) - The Blue Devils finished the week 2-0 against two quality opponents with a blowout win over Lafayette and an overtime thriller over George Rogers Clark on the road. Henry Clay is primed for a big postseason run and at this time seem like the top challenger for Scott County. Henry Clay will host the 42nd District tournament this week and that should be a big advantage for them. Henry Clay will open with rival Bryan Station who they have beaten twice already this season. 3. Frankfort (25-5) - The Panthers finish the season with 25 wins for only the 3rd time in school history and the first time since the 1969-70 season. This week Frankfort picked up wins over Bryan Station, Madison Southern, and Nelson County. Frankfort is playing about as well as anyone in the region right now and does own a victory over Henry Clay back in December. The Panthers will open up 41st District play against rival Franklin County who is 1 of the 5 teams to beat the Panthers this season. Should be a great game and great atmosphere. 4. Woodford County (19-9) - Only one game on the schedule for the Yellow Jackets this past week as they blew out home school team Wellspring Guardians out of Richmond. The Yellow Jackets are the 1 seed in the 41st District tournament and the host. Woodford County will open up with Western Hills in the 41st District Tournament. 5. Lafayette (18-11) -The Generals started off the week with a huge blowout loss to crosstown rival Henry Clay but bounced back with a win over over Frederick Douglass. Lafayette will be the 1 seed in the upcoming 43rd District Tournament and will play the winner of the Tates Creek/Paul Laurence Dunbar play in game. Lafayette at times has looked like one of the best teams in the region and at other times not so much. This week will really show us where they stand as the always tough 43rd District tournament begins. 6. Lexington Catholic (14-15) - The Knights finished their regular season with a losing record for the first time since 1986. This past week they lost in overtime on the road and picked up a huge win at home over 12th region favorite Wayne County to end the week. Although the regular season wasnt the best for the Knights they have a chance to right the ship when they take on LCA in the first round of the 43rd District tournament, a team Lexington Catholic beat twice this season. 7. Paul Laurence Dunbar (12-16) - The Bulldogs started off the week with a loss on the road to West Jessamine but finished the week with quite possibly the biggest win in the state of Kentucky when they beat previously undefeated in state Scott County 91-84 on Friday night. Up next the Bulldogs will host the 43rd District tournament and open with Tates Creek where the winner will advance to play #1 seed Lafayette. 8. Madison Central (15-13) - Another absolutely brutal week for the Indians where they took on 13th Region favorite South Laurel and won then traveled to defending State Champion Covington Catholic and fell by 12 points. The Indians can make an argument they have played the toughest schedule in the state this season. They do however get a small break as 44th District play opens up and they will face off with Model in the first round. 9. Lexington Christian (20-10) - Its hard to see a 20 win team like LCA at 9 but as things stand in the region right now this is where they fall. This week the Eagles got blown out at home by Trinity and then struggled but finally pulled away for a 6 point win over Bryan Station also at home. Senior Kyle Rode passed Mike Allen for 2nd all time on the Lexington scoring list and now sits 42 points behind Taveion Hollingsworth for 1st all time. LCA will likely need to beat Lexington Catholic in the opening round of the 43rd District tournament for him to accomplish that feat. 10. Tates Creek (14-13) - For the first time since 2010 the Commodores have finished the regular season with a winning record. Congrats to them on that accomplishment. This past week Tates Creek picked up wins over Madison Southern and Paris. Up next the Commodores will open with PLD in the opening round of the 43rd District tournament which is also hosted by PLD. 11. Franklin County (15-13) -The Flyers won both games this past week over Ryle and Anderson County. The Flyers open up 41st District tournament play against Frankfort High. The Flyers split with the Panthers this season and the opening round district matchup should be another good battle between these two old rivals. 12. Bryan Station (6-21) - The Defenders dropped both games this week to Frankfort and Lexington Christian but played tight with both teams the majority of the game. Up next Bryan Station will face off with Henry Clay in the first round of the 42nd District tournament. While the Blue Devils will be heavy favorites you can throw the records out the window when these two old rivals get together. 13. Frederick Douglass (12-18) - The Broncos dropped both their games this week to George Rogers Clark and Lafayette. This team is full of athletes and one of the best young players in the region in DeShawn Jackson, but just cant seem to put it together. The Broncos will open up with Sayre in the 42nd District tournament and the winner will face Scott County. 14. Model (18-10) - The Patriots have won 7 in a row to finish off the regular season and picked up 2 wins this week over Nicholas County and Jackson County. Model has had a nice season but unfortunately for them they play in a district that draws instead of seeds and they got the unlucky fortune of drawing Madison Central in the first round of the 44th District tournament. 15. Madison Southern (15-15) - The losing streak for the Eagles continues this week after dropping games to Tates Creek and Frankfort which makes it 5 in a row for the Eagles. Luckily for Madison Southern they drew Berea in the first round of the 44th District tournament which should ensure them making it to the Regional Tournament. 16. Berea (18-12) - The Pirates finished off their regular season with two wins over Western Hills and Lee County. Another successful season for Coach Swords considering the talent level he has. Berea will open up 44th District play against Madison Southern. 17. Western Hills (11-18) - The Wolverines finished the week 2-2 with wins over Frankfort Christian Academy and Wolfe County and losses to Berea and Garrard County. Western Hills opens up 41st District tournament play against Woodford County. 18. Sayre (9-20) - The Spartans ended their season with 2 wins over Kentucky Country Day and Fleming County. This week Sayre will open 42nd District play against Frederick Douglass with the winner facing Scott County. DISTRICT TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE 41st District at Woodford County 1. Woodford County vs. 4. Western Hills - 2/19 2. Frankfort vs. 3. Franklin County - 2/20 Championship - 2/22 42nd District at Henry Clay 4. Frederick Douglass vs. 5. Sayre - 2/18 2. Henry Clay vs. 3 Bryan Station - 2/19 1. Scott County vs. 4/5 Winner - 2/20 Championship - 2/22 43rd Distritct at Paul Laurence Dunbar 4. Paul Laurence Dunbar vs. 5. Tates Creek - 2/18 2. Lexington Catholic vs. 3. Lexington Christian Academy - 2/19 1. Lafayette vs. 4/5 Winner - 2/20 Championship - 2/22 44th District Tournament at Eastern Kentucky University Madison Southern vs. Berea - 2/18 Madison Central vs. Model - 2/19 Championship - 2/22
  6. He missed last week for academic issues but was back tonight. Started and played entire game.
  7. Once again, everyone played for Scott County except Moreno who has been out since December.
  8. Yes everyone played for Scott County. Well except for Moreno who hasn’t played since December.
  9. Gadd for PLD was hot early. Not sure how many he finished with but Dunbar made big shots when they needed to.
  10. AP Poll has them 5th this week as well. If Scott County wasnt the juggernaut they are right now then Henry Clay is the team to beat in the 11th.
  11. I think they are #5 in the Cantrell Rankings through the Lexington Herald Leader this week.
  12. I agree with this 100%. This is not a knock on Allen, which the PC faithful that troll this board will take it as, but Jolly is the player of the YEAR. I put year in all caps for a reason. The sad thing with this award is coaches vote on it and you cant vote for your own player. So certain coaches will vote for another senior who has 0 chance of being player of the year or even in the conversation, to "protect" their own player. Same ones will be screaming from the roof tops how it isnt fair that their player isnt considered because of an injury. Strange times we live in. Adults making it about themselves and not the players.
  13. I have said for years that Simon Kenton is the best job in the 8th Region and one of the best in the state of Kentucky. You are one of the only NKY schools in the 8th Region, one of if not the biggest school enrollment wise in the 8th, they seem to always have good players and a standout star year to year. I just dont understand how they are not better. When is the last time they were in a region final let alone the state tournament?
  14. Well I was trying to be somewhat nice, but fine whats going on with Fleming? This program used to be much more competitive.
  15. The Black Devils have won 20 games! The state of the Black Devils is fine! Big win over Menifee County with Dayton on deck!
  16. This score shocks me a little bit. Sayre has been really down this year compared to the past couple of years. I cant figure out Fleming they have some decent wins and some bad losses, like this one and the Bluegrass United one. Anyone have any insight on Fleming County?
  17. Rode finished with 19 points. Like said in the previous post not sure how much head to head there was.
  18. I think Isaiah Cozart is an interesting case when you look at his resume. Hes the mix of a great senior season and a great career that so many people argue which holds more weight in the Mr. Basketball conversation. Also, I am pretty sure hes the only candidate on the list that has broken multiple state records. Most blocked shots in a season and a career.
  19. All head coaches get a vote, as well as members of the KABC, former Mr. Basketball winners, select media members, and members of the Lion's Eye Foundation. The email with the final ballot went out yesterday.
  20. The only kid missing from the first game of the season was DaJuan Davis. I do agree with Deuce though, a loss in December should have no bearing on a ranking in February.
  21. As we head toward the final week of the regular season all the district seeds are in place and the top teams in the region look to make a push towards that ever elusive region championship. Some big wins for top region teams over the week and the return of a star are the highlights of this week's review. TEAM RANKINGS 1. Scott County (27-1) - The Cardinals continued their winning ways this week picking up 2 wins over Woodford County and Clay County and running their winning streak to 14 games in a row. The Cardinals have locked up the 1 seed in the 42nd District and now will get Michael Moreno back for the stretch run. Senior guard Bryce Long scored the 1,500th point of his career this past week as well, congrats to him. This week Scott County finishes out their regular season with Covington Holy Cross and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Can anyone stop the Cardinals and Coach Hicks? 2. Henry Clay (22-5) - The Blue Devils continue to play good basketball and picked up 2 wins this week over Paul Laurence Dunbar and Woodford County. The win over Woodford County came on the road in a highly contested game where the Blue Devils refused to lose and really showed how good of a team they are. Up next Henry Clay hosts Lafayette, heads to GRC, and hosts Taylor County to end the season. Any other year the Blue Devils would be a favorite to make it to Rupp but Scott County stands in their way once again. 3. Frankfort (22-5) - What a great week for the Panthers as they picked up 3 wins over top tier state talent in Danville, Fern Creek, and Ballard. The Panthers have had quite the season under new coach Chris O'Bryan but I would be re missed not to mention previous coach Nick Barton in the development of this outstanding senior class, he deserves a boat load of credit that he wont ever get from the people in downtown Frankfort but nonetheless. Juanya Frank and Johnathan Tillman continue to lead this dangerous Frankfort team. Up next Frankfort heads to Bryan Station and then hosts Madison Southern and Nelson County to end the regular season. 4. Lafayette (17-10) - The Generals started the week with a win over crosstown rival Bryan Station and then headed to Trinity and lost a close one in a game they lead most of the way. The Generals have secured the 1 seed in the 43rd District tournament and are really playing good basketball when it matters the most. After starting the season 3-5 the Generals have won 14 of their last 19 against some of the stiffest competition in Kentucky. Up next Lafayette heads to Henry Clay and then hosts Frederick Douglass to end the regular season. 5. Woodford County (18-9) - The Yellow Jackets dropped 2 tough games this week to Scott County and Henry Clay. No shame in losing to those two teams but the Yellow Jackets are starting to show cracks in the armor lately losing 4 of their last 6. Only one game on the schedule this week as the Yellow Jackets host Nelson County to end the regular season. 6. Madison Central (14-12) - The Indians picked up 2 nice wins this week over Lexington Catholic and Walton Verona. In the win over Lexington Catholic big man Isaiah Cozart poured in 26 points to lead the Indians. In the victory Friday night over Walton Verona, Cozart was neutralized by WV big man Deionte Miles but Que Charlton picked up the slack with 19 points. This week two tough games for the Indians as they host South Laurel and hit the road to Covington Catholic. 7. Lexington Catholic (13-14) - The Knights finished the week 1-1 with a loss to Madison Central but a nice win over Lexington Christian Academy to finish as the 2 seed in the 43rd District tournament. Ben Johnson poured in 40 points against Madison Central and 23 points against LCA for a monster week. Ben continues to prove hes one of the best young players in the state of Kentucky. Up next the Knights travel to Lincoln County and host Wayne County to end the regular season. 8. Lexington Christian Academy (19-9) - The Eagles finished the week 1-1 with a close victory over Tates Creek and a close loss on the road at Lexington Catholic. This past week's results ensure the Eagles will be the 3 seed in the upcoming 43rd District Tournament and will face off with Lexington Catholic once again. To finish off the regular season LCA will hos Trinity and Bryan Station. 9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (11-15) - The Bulldogs started the week off with a 4 point win on the road over Frederick Douglass and then got smoked by Henry Clay to end the week. PLD will be the 4 seed in the 43rd District tournament and face off with Tates Creek to begin postseason play. This week they end the season with a trip to West Jessamine and then host Scott County. 10. Frederick Douglass (12-16) - The Broncos finished the week 2-1 with wins over Tates Creek and Newport Central Catholic and a loss to Bryan Station. The Broncos are a strange case as they have some nice wins this season and some head scratching losses as well. FDHS will be the 4 seed in the upcoming 42nd District tournament. This week they end their season with a trip to GRC and then go across town to face off with Lafayette. 11. Tates Creek (12-13) - The Commodores finished the week 1-2 with an overtime win over Bryan Station and close losses to Lexington Christian and Frederick Douglass. Tates Creek will be the 5 seed in the upcoming 43rd District tournament and face off with PLD in the opening round. To finish the regular season Tates Creek will host Madison Southern and then head to Paris. Two winnable games for the Commodores which could ensure them their first winning regular season since 2010-2011 season. 12. Bryan Station (6-19) - The record does not speak to how far the Defenders have come this season. Coach Hammons has shown great patience and really improved his basketball team. This past week Bryan Station picked up a win on the road over Boyle County and dropped a close game in overtime to Tates Creek. The Defenders will be the 3 seed in the 42nd District tournament and matchup with Henry Clay. To finish their season Bryan Station will host Frankfort and head across town to LCA to end the week. 13. Franklin County (13-13) - The Flyers finished the week 2-1 with a win over Frankfort Christian Academy and a big overtime win over 12th Region favorite Danville then dropped a head scratcher on the road by 30 to North Oldham. Franklin County will host Ryle this week then head to Anderson County to end the regular season. 14. Madison Southern (15-12) - The Eagles dropped their only game last week big to GRC 81-58. The good news for the Eagles is the 44th District draw went in their favor as they drew Berea and will most likely be in the 11th Region tournament when its all said and done. This week Madison Southern hosts Mercer County then heads to Frankfort and Tates Creek to end the season. 15. Model (16-10) - The Patriots are winners of 5 in a row including a win this week over Frankfort Christian Academy. Unfortunately, for Model they drew Madison Central in the first round of the 44th District tournament. To end the regular season Model will host Nicholas County and then head to Jackson County to end the week. 16. Western Hills (9-16) -The Wolverines finished the week 1-1 with a win over Nicholas County and a loss to East Jessamine. Western Hills will be the 4 seed in the upcoming 41st District tournament and face Woodford County. To end the season Western Hills has a full slate of games with a home game against Frankfort Christian Academy then hit the road to Berea, Garrard County, and Wolfe County. 17. Berea (16-11) - The Pirates finished the week 2-1 with wins over Frankfort Christian Academy and St. Patrick and a loss to Estill County. Berea drew Madison Southern in the 44th District tournament. This week to end the regular season Berea will host 3 games with Wellspring Guardians Homeschool team, Western Hills, and Lee County. 18. Sayre (7-20) - The Spartans finished the week 1-2 with a win over Wolfe County and losses to Atherton and Bell County. Sayre will be the 5 seed in the upcoming 42nd District tournament and play Frederick Douglass. To end the season Sayre will head to Kentucky Country Day and host Fleming County to end the week. GAMES OF THE WEEK Monday Feb. 11th South Laurel at Madison Central Tuesday Feb. 12th Frankfort at Bryan Station Lafayette at Henry Clay Lexington Catholic at Lincoln County Trinity at Lexington Christian Academy Thursday Feb. 14th Henry Clay at George Rogers Clark Friday Feb. 15th Madison Central at Covington Catholic Wayne County at Lexington Catholic
  22. Canada led GRC with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Great games from Wellman, Graham, and Rucker. Cards led by 11 at the half.
