Aren't there different rules depending on if the school is NCAA or NAIA?

Good point. I'm sure the kid will get some time on the freshman team. While you may feel disappointed and even offended that a teacher chooses to send his/her child to a different school, you can't blame someone for trying to do what is best for their child even if you disagree about what is best.

This sounds excessive to say the least. How do you and your son feel about this?

I would think if that was the problem, he would have quit 2 yrs ago.

It has to be taking some kids as is fall baseball and year round basketball.

If I had to pick one right now I would have to go with Carroll or maybe Gallatin.

Everyone who is dreaming of that big athletic scholarship needs to remember just how tough they can be to get and your child can be one injury away from being on the sidelines. D-III schools can't even give athletic scholarships. This includes Centre, Transy, Thomas More, just to name a few. However, all schools give academic scholarships. As long as athletes can keep their grades up and want to play multiple sports, I say let them do it. Back to the thread topic. I have seen good girl athletes quit their sport so they can watch their boyfriends play their sport or even keep stats for their team. I have never seen it the other way around. A sad reflection of our culture. I have also seen girls quit sports to be cheerleaders. Sometimes this was a good idea other times not so much. I saw a 5' 11" 8th grader who was becoming a decent bball player give it up to be a cheerleader. She later regretted her decision.

I would bet that these girls did not come up with this on their own. I am sure they heard it at home and in the car on the way home. Parents should encourage their girls to work to get better instead of blaming their lack of playing time on politics.

I think that the overall mood with those who are currently a part of Owen Co football is very good. The players seem to be enjoying practice and are learning alot. From what I have seen and heard Coach Fowler and company have alot of support from the players, parents, and administration. I have also heard that he and the middle school coach have been conferring some. Something that is way overdue. Do I expect to have a winning season? Maybe not yet. But I do expect to see improvement in all areas including morale.

I agree. Has anyone out there ever seen a kid fail a sports physical? I have never heard of it happening.

Owen Co will be counting on freshman Rhianna Gayheart. She was a huge help to the team last year after her middleshool season was over.

I don't think it was well publicized. Attendance at youth camp was low last year too. In order to have the kids turn out there should be something sent home with the kids from school and the camp needs to be early in the summer. Youth coaches need to call their players and urge them to go to camp. The basketball camp held in early June was packed.

Some players did have prior committments but it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff handles the players who want to come out when school starts.

Some smaller schools truly cannot find anyone else qualified to do it.

I agree 100%. Kids who are 2 or 3 sport athletes definately need the extra time off. Although it is amazing to me how many kids spend the dead period at camps, working out with personal trainers and with AAU teams instead of taking a break.

Some coaches inform their employer from day one that they will resign when their child graduates. When schools continue to hire parents to coach and then pay very little for these coaches, this is to be expected.

Owen County lost a very good defensive player in Clint Hamilton. Hopefully some of the younger guys will step up and be the work horse on defense that he was.

A little off the subject here, but I heard that Hargett is now going to NKU instead of Thomas More. Can anyone confirm this? If true is she playing ball at NKU?
