Top 10 9th Region Player Luke Maile

Featured Replies

I heard from a reliable source that Luke Maile will forego his senior year of basketball to concentrate on baseball. In fact, I was told he is spending this summer in California playing for the White Sox Class A affiliate on a volunteer basis. This will definitely hurt the Colonels if true.

It is very true.

I spent a good part of the summer with Kentucky Colonels and following them and I had a few talks with Mr. Maile and Luke and learned that is indeed what they are going to do next year.

Personally even though this will hurt CovCaths basketball team I believe it is in the best interest of Luke because of his prowess behind the plate and with a bat. Best of luck to the young man

Doesn't really sound like a Class A team, more like a team of high school ballplayers from across the county.

Still cool.

Looks like kind of an AllStar team sponsored by MLB.

This team will be sponsored by the White Sox and is part of the Area Code Games. The event was started a local/regional event, to showcase the best Freshman-Senior High School talent and has grown nationally.

These are invites only and given out, to some of the best prep talent across the country. Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees will again have teams, along with the the Oakland A's.

It is true that he is in Cali for the summer.

As for not playing basketball, it comes up every year that he won't, but this is the first year that I believe that he won't. I haven't talked to him in a while though...

Theoldguy is not talking, but Rich and the family will do whatever they think is best for Luke and no matter what course he chooses to take, there should be no complaints as they are doing what's in his best interest!

Noticed a kid from Florence is on his team, a Laumann kid, anyone have any info on him?>

Don't know about the kids ability, but I believe his dad (Doug) is director of amateur scouting for the White Sox.

Will Maile be projected as a high draft pick? What colleges have shown interest, and if he is a high pick, what are the odds of him going to college?

Yes, Doug Laumann. He was with the White Sox early in the '01-'03 and rejoined them in '07, I believe.

This will be a very good opportunity for Maile and Laumann, to play in front of numerous Colleges and Pro Scouts.

Could another reason stem from Listerman getting rid of Luke's grandpa 2 years ago? From what I hear, there is still a lot of anamosity over that within the Maile family.

Some major, major D-1 programs have him as the top catcher in his class. A few SEC schools top his list.

No one was really happy about that. It certainly hasn't helped the situation.

This will be a big blow to the basketball program. Hope he has a very successful baseball career.
