Thanks for looking at this objectively for us, but I was looking at Corbin having 9 ppg, 45 points in 5 games, or am I missing something here.

I can look at the stats and see that the top 5 teams all pretty much play a mixture of some bigger and smaller schools, but I was wondering just how everyone thinks that they stack up against each other. Being Falcon Fan, I think that Fort Campbell is the best in the state for 2A, but I am really wondering how the other teams in the top 5 compare to them. 1. Fort Campbell 2. Corbin 3. Prestonsburg 4. DeSales 5. Green County What are your thoughts and comments on this?

That a good point, I was wondering the same thing about Antonio Andrews, that would be about tripling the amount of carries he is getting now, but every now and then he has to throw it to the outstanding recievers that he has on the team as well.

Here are Antonio Andrews (Fort Campbell) stats after six games and heading into the open week: 6 wins, 0 losses (I know the senior year is all that matters but he is 20-0 as the starting QB [FC is 20-1 during that same time with a state champioship]) 47/66 passing (71%), 732 yards, 12 TDs, 1 INT 59 rushes, 729 Yards, 12.36 YPC, 14 TDs 3 PATs 159 total points (passing, rushing, PATs) [87 points rushing & PATs] 7 Solo Tackles, 2 Assisted Tackles (not including #’s from Week 6 vs. Warren Central) He has also did some kickoffs, but I do not know any stats or yardage on that category. On a side note, I am looking forward to Antonio hitting the 1,000 yard rushing and 1,000 yard passing milestones again this year (1178 rushing and 1019 passing last year's regular season; 593 rushing, 679 passing, 59 receiving in the playoffs). I would like to see him get another TD reception also, seeing him do that in the State Championship game last year was great (as was just being back from Iraq in time to see the falcons win the game in general.)

While I believe Fort Campbell deserves the #1 ranking, why do you think that Prestonburg is getting two of the number 1 votes over Corbin? Is it a location thing or a publicity thing or what?

How is this any different than some of the other names that have been mentioned in here. A few of these guys are putting up these numbers while only playing 1/2 of the game, somtimes they play less than that. I think he is doing comparable to those that he is being compared with for the most part, and with about the same amount of playing time.

Three sub par performances could hurt Fugate's chances, I would think taht every games missed could hurt a chance at Mr. Football, and just because a team loses does not mean the player will not be in the running. I still think it might be a little early to tell.

That is right. The Defense did its part tonight too, scoring twice in the first mintue. I guess they were giving the offense a break, even though they still scored a bunch. Also, #73 was retired by the team tonight in memory of Tim Williams. The Falcons are doing a gret job so far in a season dedicated to their fallen teammate. Congratualtions to the Falcons and my prayers continue to go out to the entire Williams Family and Falcon Football community over the loss of a great son, player and friend.

Tonight against Paduch Tilghman he had 11 carries for 215 yards, 3 TDs in the first half. Also had a passing TD but not sure of his other passing stats as of right now. He also had a great block on a long run that resulted in anotehr TD. My vote is still for Antonio Andrews.

Isn't teh official record 175-46 then? Just wondering, but that is still a pretty good record.

That information is correct. 2002 was also the last year Fort Campbell lost to Fort Know in the Army Bowl.

I think that Coach Berner from Fort Campbell has to be in the mix for this. One losing season (his first year there) and has since returned the Falcons to the level it was in the late 70's. With the turnover of folks at a military installation and continuous deployments of parents, coaching and mentoring these kids is even harder. Coach Berner and his staff do a great job with these young men.

After four games, these are Antonio Andrews stats: 31/50 passing (62%), 511 yards, 8 TDs, 1 INT 36 rushes, 381 Yards, 10.58 YPC, 8 TDs 3 PATs 99 total points (passing, rushing, PATs) [51 points rushing & PATs] 6 Solo Tackles, 2 Assisted Tackles Not to bad considering he may have played about two games total time, Coach Berner does a good job of getting the younger guys in the game thanks to the high scoring offense and the defense (usually early in the 3rd quarter, if not sooner)

How much of an impact on Mr Football voting does the lopsided wins have. Coaches can leave these guys in and help out their stats or they can pull them when they are up by 35 or 40 points and let the younger guys get some snaps, which may or may not help stats. For those that are not seeing other candidates, they only have these stats to go. BTW, Antonio Andrews had a great hit and tackle against one of the Fort Knox backs Friday night. You do not see to many quarterbacks that can hit like that anymore (imo).

You have to keep in mind that the schools on a military installation are not ran in the same way as others schools. They typically do not focus on the athletics portion, but solely on the education. The success (or failure) of the programs is not as much of an issue as it is with public/private schools. Not to mention, a school on a miltary installation has a lot more turnover than the typical school does, especially those like Fort Knox, whose primary focus is training Soldiers, although that is in the process of changing. Fort Knox only has 1 or 2 brigades (I beleive that number is correct) that are not centered on training, whereas Fort Campbell has about 9 or so. Those Soldiers typically stay put longer so their kids stablize in the school systems longer.

If they are not in the top 4 of their conferencem they do not deserve to be in the playoffs. The season should count for something and not be a practice season for a series of one game seasons aka the playoffs. This format works with any number of classes, but the reason I suggested it was to reduce the classes by at least one. Sending every team tot he playoffs does not put football at the same level of any other sport, and for the other sports that let everyone into the playoffs, it is a waste of time and money for the programs. As a coach you need to find a way to make your team competitive, rather than going 0-10 (which will not make you a better team by playing that one additional game in the playoffs and being 0-11).

Even out the conferences and classes as much as possible so they each have eight teams. Might not be totally doable, but it is within reach. That would still leave 3 non-conference games for each team to schedule.

This can be achieved by doing away with the regions, and combining two districts into 8 conferences. Each conference sends four teams using the conference record to determine who goes. This still leaves some out of conference games but also solves the problems for those that say they can not find games, there would only be three for them to find each year, rather than 7.

This is resolved by using the district record rather than the overall record. Some schools schedule the bigger schools on purpose, others have no choice. Either way, teh majority of the schools that lose over half of their games are not in this situation and should not be in the playoffs.

I do not think it is the number of classes that is the problem, but the number of teams that make it to the playoffs. In 2A just about every team goes to states because they take 4 teams from each district. Just about all of the 2A districts only have 4 teams. Although anything can happen, the #1 & #2 teams win in the first round and many time there are way to many teams that are 0-10 and 1-9. If they can not compete in their own district, they surely won't compete in the state playoffs. Going to 5 classes or just combining some of the districts would be another option. Just stop letting just about everyone in the state make it into the playoffs.
