Newport is open.

I'm pretty sure middle schoolers are excluded from varsity soccer as well. (Whoops...just got done reading the rest of the posts. Didn't realize that four other people have confirmed the above mentioned fact.)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ludlow is in the same district as Dixie, Lloyd, and Villa. Ludlow should easily beat those three teams this year. As for the region, I haven't seen any recent polls, but I'm thinking they are probably around the 9, 10, or 11 spot. Basically, they're pretty good this year and I am hoping they live up to their potential. I would love to see them make a legitimate run at the 9th Region All-A.

Newport senior center Jennifer Bivens had 19 points/21 rebounds.

Wow...can't believe nobody's bit on this one. Oh well. I will continue with an update anyway. Newport 8th grade starts the season 1-1 with a win at Summit View and a loss to what appeared to be a very polished IHM.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it out to this scrimmage. Anyone see it? How did the teams look?

I was very excited to hear that the freshmen will field a team this year. Though many of these freshmen will likely need to play JV due to low numbers, it is not fair for them to not get a shot to play against kids their own age. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Coach Vories. :thumb: Also, just as an fyi...apparently this is the first year in many that there is no turnover in coaching at the middle school level for girls' basketball. Right now, things appear to be lookin' good for the Ladycats!! :ylsuper: Hopefully, these trends will continue until a solid program is established.

Word has it that the NKMSBL starts on Nov. 18th. Seems a little early. Will teams be ready?

Kent Vorhees is the new head coach. He will be assisted by Joe Bramlage. Word is that they will be having some freshmen games this year as well. I've also heard that former Bellevue player Mindy Merrit is helping out with the freshman team. Can anyone confirm this?

I have a feeling you are referring to the small-school (DIII) conference, and not the district. The DIII conference includes: Ludlow, Silver Grove, Calvary Christian, Villa Madonna, Dayton, Bellevue, Beechwood, and Heritage. Currently, I believe there is a three way tie for first place in the conference. I don't think Villa is one of these teams. I know Calvary, Ludlow, and either Dayton or Bellevue have only one loss in their conference, and are therefore tied for first place. Please correct me if I am wrong on any of these points.

:confused: I am not sure I know what you are implying here. Care to elaborate? How many of Beechwood's varsity volleyball players were lost to the new soccer team?

I just got back from a great matchup between Ludlow and Beechwood. Ludlow won it in three: 25-14, 18-25, 25-21. I didn't hear all of the stats, but I know that Ludlow's senior Julie Hardin had amazing 11 kills in the first game. This win gets head coach Jodi Schmidt a long awaited win against her alma mater and puts the Lady Panthers one step closer to a potential DIII conference championship. Congratulations to her and the Lady Panthers!!

As a basketball/volleyball coach, if I had a player that was having a temper tantrum similar to what you described, I would immediately sub the player out and let them know that such behavior will never be tolerated by me. I'm not that familiar with golf, but I'm wondering how a golf coach could accomplish a similar result, given that the player isn't going to be able to be subbed out. Obviously, the coach can tell the player that their behavior is inappropriate, but without the option to sub, I have a feeling that impact won't be nearly as great.
