Very much so. Carroll County is more talented than Williamstown. You will see a totally different outcome in Feb. I think CC dresses 10 and 6 are football players. They will get better game by game.

Williamstown played very hard last night . Great effort on their part. Carroll will be fine they really only have a few weeks of practice time under their belt as a complete unit. Take in consideration a totally new system that was not implemented until October, combined with the fact they have only had the majority of the varsity team for a few weeks due to football. As long as everyone stays positive and realize their success may not be measured in wins and losses early in the season. I believe their success should be measured in constant improvement in all areas.

I think you will see a very different Carroll Co. team this year. The overall attitude and expectation of the program has changed. I wouldnt pencil in a win against this team just yet. Come Febuary this will be a dangerous team.

IMO baseball is not only the best sport in KY. but the best sport in the world. At the the age of 7 I can remember turning on Marty and Joe and listening to them while I batted every piece of gravel out of our driveway. Many mornings my mom would wake me up with her car battery dead because I had been listening to the Reds on the west coast. Collecting the Topps cards at .25 cents a pack for all those glorious years and watching the Saturday game of the week, then going out with the guys and playing all day,PRICELESS. Today things have changed. When is the last time you drove down the road and saw a group of kids out in the yard just playing baseball with no coaches , no parents, those days are gone. Or when is the last time a kid took his money and walked into a store and bought a single baseball. Hopefully you may have seen this in your area, I have not. Just like in the Majors, youth baseball has became a business today. It costs hundreds of dollars for a kid to play in the summer these days. Yeah you have your local rec leagues that allow you to play for a little less but many of them have lost players to travel ball for many reasons. All of my children travel and play competitively so I am not knocking this because it is awesome competition and it is fun for the kids . We do not simply hand them the money so they can play we give them the opportunity to earn it and this fosters ownership and they do not take the experience for granted. I definately agree with S3 on getting back to the basics. The local rec leagues need to do all they can to promote this game at the youngest of ages. Because honestly if we lose these leagues totally I belive it will have a negative impact down the road. Som

Very excellent post for the most part. However I would encourage any true CC fan to stop talking about who should start. Morale is very high in this program right now and as fans need to keep it there. All we do when we put emphasis on who starts is created dissension amongst the players. As far as whatever team coach puts on the floor, well there will be only one team and that is THE Carroll County Panthers. I understand these forums are to discuss things like who will start , but anyone close to the program knows these kids well enough to know they do not need that . I think this team will be very deep and we will have several sophomores contributing as well as the JRs and SRs.

That really seems to help programs such as those mentioned. I wish Carroll Co. would look at doing this. There are several talented 8th graders that could not only start at the fresman level but need to start at this level. This would be a big help in the years to come. I also agree that the priority needs to be with their actual team and playing up would only be allowed when there was no conflict.

Come on, kickers at all levels miss kicks to win games. Uh can you remember Scott Norwood for the Bills in the Super Bowl, wide right ? Please understand these kids read BGP posts like that really make a kid feel worse than what they already do. Finally I have seen this kid kick and he is a great kicker.

First of all its Carrollton not Caneyville and I was talking about Desales and Covington Holy Cross playing every year. :sssh:

First round of the playoffs. I am sure HC and Desales was a great game. Two outstanding coaches in this one . This would be a great matchup to see on the schedule in years to come. I like to see NKY teams play Louisville teams,its almost like a natural rivalry exists with these two areas.

This is such a great observation. We are losing so many kids to year around sports or spring football or summer basketball. I am for the kids playing all the sports they can and my hat is off to the players that choose to do so and to the coaches that support this decision. I also feel we are losing many gifted African-American players for possibly the same reasons . Definitely great opportunity for college scholarship.

I think this group will have alot of chemistry this season. This has been lacking for several years. The sophomores, Jrs. and Srs. in this class have played alot of ball together over the years in all sports. I believe they have all matured to the point they will play for each other and what is represented on the front of the jersey and not what is on the back of the jersey. What changes do you forsee in the offensive scheme next year ?

Not sure who will start early in the season and it really doesn't matter. With the football players just getting in there they need to gel and under Yager they will. I think some people will be surpised at how this lineup shakes out in the end.

I did not say it is not on the rise. I stated that successful teams need to make adjustments play to play, game to game , as well as year to year. However success cannot always be based on your record win or lose. Well I guess it can depending upon ones expectation. If your expectation is to only win against teams with losing records then yeah I guess you consider yourself successful. BUT DID YOU GET BETTER IN THE PROCESS. You tell me ? That has become the norm in our entire athletics program, being satisfied with beating the teams within 20 miles of us. HOWEVER , I do see change coming in all sports, including football. Coach Weedman is doing great things for our program. I hope alot of people get PO'd by my posts because I am sick of this lets be average mentality we have in this county. Whatever happened to lets go out and flat kick somebody's *$$ !!!!!!!!!

Yes my opinion on the players being utilized properly. However as far as having a quality win..... Thats a fact ! I hope I eat these words come Saturday , any playoff win is Quality .

Exactly part of my whole point. Leading CAL 14-7 at the half they shut our running game down and went on to beat us badly. They made adjustments we did not. While I am a huge fan of Coach, possibly some other adjusments could have been made offensively, especially since the loss of Wise. To be successful you must be able to make adjustments not only year to year, not only game to game, but play to play. I do agree the program overall will continue to improve . Again I will say you have got to put your best athletes on the field no way this is happening !

My definition of a quality win is not putting up a lot of points against weak competition. Carroll County does not have a win against a team with a winning record all year . Plus two of their losses have been against teams with losing records including Dayton who had only won one time prior to playing CC. Can they win vs. Holy Cross ? That remains to be seen. I wish them the best of luck and surely hope they do. As far as talent not being utilized, bottom line is you put your best athletes on the field that will give you the best chance to win. Simply that is not being done.

It should be a great game then , the same is true with CC. They really do not have a quality win all year . The talent is there just not sure its being utilized properly.

That would be a nice problem to have and be considered a small team. Try having your tallest player 6'2. Now thats a small team.

They have one of the best coaching staffs in the state in Shawn Thacker and Jordan Mann! With these two guys at the helm success won't be far behind! Good Luck this season!

I have always liked this kid. We used to play Little league against him. I think he has always been under rated and possibly not even utilized to his fullest potential. The fact that he is 6'5 wont hurt anything either .

I have thought about this game all weekend and still hesitate to comment but I cant resist. First of all on the rationale for pooch kicking ,on sides or whatever one chooses to call it. I find it very hard to believe that a team as skilled as HC has a difficult time executing a fundamental skill such as tackling. Therfore I do not buy the argument on being afraid someone is going to run it back on them. Whether it is classless or not could be debated all day. The fact of the matter is let them try it against a highly skilled offensive team 90% of the time then check the scoreboard. That leads to my final point. WE (CC) just need to start taking care of our own teams and getting to the point we go out with the EXPECTATION of winning games. Many of our teams play HOPING we can win or somehow gain a moral victory. We do not go out with the mentality that we are going to beat someone and make them like it. Whenever we get to that point we won't have to get on forums such as this and celebrate when we beat a mediocre team or complain when we lose to an average team. Ill say it again, we have the players and the coaches we just have to change the culture.

It goes for football and baseball as well. When is the last time we had a perrinial winner here ? A culture of losing has been accepted here and that burns me up !:fight: Occasionally we will get a decent team that may advance in a tournament but when is the last time we played for a Regional championship in any sport, and I am not talking about the all A ? Thats the kind of success I am talking about. I will say this we may be closing in on those types of accomplishments. We have some good coaches and top notch athletes in place as well as the new faciltiy being built. But, again we have to start looking at our feeder programs in order to acheive that success year after year. GO CC !!!

I would like to see a CC upset here however I just dont see it. Anything is possible on any given night, especially when is comes to high school sports. My hat is off the likes of Henry Co. Football and Gallatin Co. basketball for truly taking their programs to the next level . They not only do this by scheduling tougher opponents but by building their programs from the ground up. This has not happened in CC in any way shape or form in boys sports in CC. We continuosly find fault in our surrounding counties for them kicking our tails in most sports. With all due respect to HC, GC and the other small schools around, they should not be our measuring stick. I remember the day when our rivals were Oldham, Shelby, and on occasion we would see Scott Co. in the regional Tourney. Congrats to the smaller schools who have moved forward, and good luck to both teams tonight.
