Dang Birdsfan you cut all that up and spit it all out! :lol: Coming up there and not having a winning season may be so don't really know the answer to that but I am saying right now we could for at least the next 3 or 4 years with what we have. Haven't seen Colerain so really don't know how good they really are but Reitz's QB was on the cover of Sports Illustrated last year. Like I said earlier I am not putting down Highlands heck you guys have won 17 state titles for some reason! Duh! I am just saying that looking at the scores that your district must be pretty weak this year! I also think that Owensboro can be undefeated until Highlands then anything goes from there but it may be a tall order having to go to Bowling Green and then to John Hardin in back to back weeks.

In the state of KY you are not aloud to play contact sports until the 9th grade KHSAA rule. So what teams in Jefferson Co. are using 8th graders? Just kidding! But this is true and if a team is they may want to be notified for the kids sake and the schools.

Last year my son was a Freshman and was the starting kicker on the Varsity team and on Thursday night he was the kicker on the freshman team and his backup kicker was the starter on JV it could have been possible for him to have started at all 3 levels but they had no kicker for the freshman team so they used him there and basically he just used it as practice for Friday night. This being said he was pulled from the freshman team after they ran a fake punt play and he got a helmet to the shin which cracked his shin bone and he was out that Friday night. So we had no kicker basically that night so after that he was strictly a varsity starter as a freshman. The coach would not even consider putting him in a JV game this year even if they had to go for 2 on every TD good lesson learned.

The last time Highlands much less any team in the state played 3 straight games the caliber of Male Trinity and St X? I do not know how people can give an honest assessment if you haven't even seen a team play. Your schedule isn't much different. You play Colerain we played Reitz who is 23-1 over the last 2 years. Colerain is the better opponent thereby the rankings. Look at the teams records I do not feel that Highlands is a 60+ point better team than every team in 5A and currently that is what you are doing to every team in your district. I know you have to play all the teams in your district. I will also say looking at Central they may give you guys a game in a few weeks they looking at their schedule seem to be a good team as well. We do not have the luxury of a team being right across the state line that is a nationally ranked team or we would play one. we came up last year and played Boone beat them and they were a 6A semi finalist. You guys make it sound like you play the toughest teams in the country. Looking at both scedules I say our team can come up there and lose to Colerain like you did and could probaly have the same record as you and also saying you could come down here and play our schedule and have the same record as us or maybe Reitz beats you I am telling you their smallest lineman was 6' 1" 290 but I would say you guys beat them too. I would also say looking at the rest of your schedule we might lose to Central as well. You can not compare to a team you haven't played though and some matchups are tougher than others just because of the style a team plays. I think currently your toughest competition for #18 is John Hardin they matchup better offensively but I say Owensboro has the better defense and BG probably has the better all around team currently on both sides but hey that is my opinion. And as far as seeing us in December I sure hope so considering we start 12 sophmores and have 6 guys playing both ways I will take a runner-up this year and bring the same team back next year and try it again and well if that doesn't work we will come and take a 3rd shot at you. Like I said in an earlier post you are suppose to be there and are suppose to win we are just suppose to maybe get there and bow to you when we show up. Owensboro will still be there when we get back win or lose and the sun will come up the next day it is not that big a deal. How many of you watch UK football? When was the last time they won a national title? How many of you would want your kid playing for them? That is what I thought! Doesn't mean they are a crappy football program. There can only be one winner in anything! Doesn't mean everyone else is just dirt and that is the some of you make it sound. Here is me I want to see Collinsworth and Connor play I have heard so much about them. I want to see Finch heard he was amazing. I see Yorel Shemwell and Yante(Devin Hester) Williams play weekly. I have seen Cole Lanham for Daviess Co. play 4 times and man what an arm if he was on a little better team his stats would be amazing. I saw the kid for Evansville Reitz play 6' 5" 370 and could move WOW! Yeah state titles are nice for those that win them but for those of us that don't it is about getting to maybe see that next kid from our proud state make it BIG at the next level or even the NEXT. So in wrapping up my conclusion if Highlands wins another state title Congrats on that but we all expected it but just think of the players you get to see in the finals even on the losing teams and even the kids that don't even make it there. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! Every team has some special players and at one point during the season they will all be winners just not STATE CHAMPS!!

Very good story and so true. We as a state have lost several football players over the last year due to tragedy and should remember. Kind of puts things into perspective that it is not always about football it is about life in general. I think everyone should read this!!

Yes quite impressive and the LKY will win at least one every year for the next 300 years that is just the nature of the way things are designed in KY. The difference between #1 and #2 in most of the classes makes this figure skewed in some prospective. One other question I have and this not to be smart or anything but with all the state titles in these areas why do we not have more successful players at the D1 level than KY does? I mean currently does anyone know of how many KY kids are in the NFL currently? And how many are playing football at the top level of D1? Just curious? I do not know those answers the only person in the NFL I can think of is Justin Miller from Owensboro. I know Jared Lorenzon was there with the Giants but is now looking for work. Maybe that would be a good thread to have how many players from KY high schools have gone on to play professionally in the last 30 years? One more thought in the last 10 years how many of these football powers have won state titles in the other major sports ie. Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Girls sides included. I know Trinity or St X one has won baseball. How come we do not see the dominant football programs in the state dominate the other sports as well? Just a little food for thought.

Well there are some good teams in the west and some good things going on around here and nobody on BGP gives any team from the west any respect. Most of the west schools are either one big school for a whole county which puts them in 6A or a small podunk town with small numbers. For once I wish people would quit throwing out that Highlands is playing up 2 classes then go back to your class or move all the way up it is easy as that. Since we are a small 5A school and have to drive 2 hours for all of our district games can we move down in class? I still do not understand why one team in the state is allowed to dictate what class they play in this seems to be the only exception to the rule. I also want to add there will never be a west team ever win again in 6A it is only a 3 team class and for the most part 2. If Highlands should be a 3A school why are their team numbers so large? Does every boy that goes to school there play football? I really would like to see you guys play and preferablly see it first hand all the things I hear about Highlands program is top notch and I would like to witness it but knocking other programs is not the way to do it. I hope we get the chance to enlighten you a little bit about our program and get a little respect in the west. All our kids have talked about this year is a state title and when people tell them they have no chance makes them try that much harder and work that much harder. Maybe they don't win but maybe they do all I am asking for is a little respect for any program that is trying to get there. And also remember it will not be long when you will be rooting for several of these westside no talent kids on saturdays and for some of them on Sundays too. Good Luck the rest of the year you never know what may happen but in this case I guess you guys already do so you can go ahead and size up and order your rings sounds like you already have!

I sure would like to schedule all those 3-3 teams on our schedule so we can give some of our kids a rest every game. I just looked and your team has 70 players listed and no freshman. You have us out numbered by 10 or 12 and that is with all of our 20 freshman listed too. Have your coach call and schedule a real 5A west team not Hopkinsville. You only have 2 teams on your schedule that has a winning record right now. And by the way OHS was the smallest school back in the old 4A and won state titles. You will not play a competitive game the rest of the year until the state finals. What was the score last year in the state finals? I do not think it was over until BG turned it over a few times in a row wasn't a flat blow out like 55-0 halftime score. Our freshman team could probably beat Cov Cath this year. I am not arguing just stating facts and if you want schedule it our coach will play any team that wants too and our boys don't care about state titles this is a new year and you can't live off the past it is the present that counts. One more thing BG was 3A for 2 of those state finals and OHS was 4A so in my book BG has only been there once with OHS in the class.

So we are talking all the way and winning a state title? Well if that is the case then St X and Owensboro. If you guys had the road the west had you would get some injuries rather than get to sit the starters the whole 2nd half of every game. But of course OHS will have to play BG then John Hardin and then Highlands. So in 6A that would be like playing Male then Trinity then St X for a state title. There is not a team in 6A that could make that run and of course there is not a team in 5A either that could win 3 straight like that. Wishfully I would like to say OHS would be undefeated but we do not have the numbers to play 3 games like that and win without casualties which would change the apperance of our team dramatically. We have already played one of the top teams in Indiana and one of the top 6A teams in Daviess Co. and we are still unblemished we play Meade Co. a 6A semi finalist from last year then play Christian Co. who is one of the top 6 in 5A so maybe by playoff time OHS will be battle tested. I respect Highlands program and what they have done there but people on here talk like they are invinsible and could compete in the NFL every other year. So if we win it would be great for OHS and if Highlands win well they are suppose to and we will have to listen to the arrogance for another year! In 5A if you look at the rankings 1 Highlands East 6-1 2 John Hardin West 7-0 3 Bowling Green West 6-1 4 Owensboro West 6-0 5 Johnson Central East 6-0 6 Christian Co West 6-1 7 Doss East 4-2 8 Bryan Station East 3-3 9 Hopkinsville West 3-4 10 Ashland East 5-2 4 of the top 6 teams are in the west and any of them can win on any given night against each other good talent good schedules. I am not knocking Highlands I am saying the schedule sure is in your favor when your closest competition is Cov Cath and you guys had them down 55-0 at the half. I see why you play all the Ohio teams. Hopkinsville put 21 on you and they have a losing record from the west so at least give the west teams some credit they all just have to play each other to get to you every year and most of the time you guys just get to practice and wait for the state finals.

I think Owensboro will keep theirs too but who knows since they are a WKY team they don't get much recognition.

Jeb you are so right your kids do have heart and you can't teach that you either have or you don't. I hope that is our kids they are young but for the most part haven't lost but a few games so I think they expect to win sometimes that can be good and well you know sometimes that can be bad. I have told my son all week that this will not be some walk in the park and I think the coach has echoed that. Hopefully we will be ready to play and play well win or lose.

It sure would be nice for Monte to get on at UK but for some reason Kentucky never really recruits kickers. Regardless with all the good kickers in the state right now if UK get one I am afraid to say we may still see one of ours kicking for the orange and white. Jeb like your passion but I will give you a little advice maybe you guys should just kick the ball out of bounds on kickoff because if it goes past 10 or 15 yards every guy on OHS's kickoff return team can out run a rabbit and I am putting that lightly they are fast. Meade Co. seems to always give Owensboro trouble but I think this year the Devils are stronger offensively and have replaced size with speed on defense. Last year OHS was strong on both sides of the ball and this year they are just flatout fast. I look for a close game because it always is if history repeats itself but if OHS can use their speed they could really role in this one. Everyone should remember John Hardin only beat Meade 16-0 and they are suppose to be the team to take the thrown from Highlands this year. Jeb will you be attending the game? If so let me know so we can meet up before the game.

I hope so he sure has worked hard and deserves the record. My son Quit soccer last year and is only kicking for the football team. Maybe he will just need one extra point to break the record when we come down there for the playoffs and we have a nice lead and let him get that last one!

Our team had a game on Saturday so we decided to go a friday night game and watch since we thought it would be a good game. I saw something I had never seen before a guy on a 4-wheeler with a big freakin' horn. He set it off when the home team scored a TD. The one thing I found very unclassy was it was late in the game and it was a close game and the other team had the ball with a chance to pretty much put the game on ice and this guy was traveling the track with the plays and while the other team was at the line of scrimmage this guy was revving on that 4-wheeler for all it was worth. I was at the opposite end of the stadium and could hear it over everything even the fans. Very unsportsmanlike.

So True JB as Oregon St. showed all of us last week anybody is beatable on any given night.

Like any coach always says in the playoffs it just takes one bad game and being high school football anything can happen. I may drive down to Hoptown this weekend and see you guys play. We definately wanted to play you guys last year with our big defense but I think these boys this year are playing with a chip on their shoulders since all the preseason talk was how Owensboro was going to be so down with all the seniors that graduated. Good Luck this weekend for those of you that keep things in perspective and for those of you that don't I hope your players do not get as cocky as you.

Is Highlands really that good or is your district really that bad? Good thing you guys play some quality teams through out the year or it would be miserable to put up about 700 points in 10 games. :D:D On a lighter side I wish I could see you guys play Hoptown saturday since that is a common opponent of ours. I guess the east side of the bracket is already wrapped up now you guys just have to wait and see who you play in Dec. JH, BG or OHS.

Do you guys forget that Bowling Green and Owensboro will have a say in this and last I checked JH BG and Owensboro are 2,3 and 4 in the rankings. BG has proved they can play holding Trinity to 17 points even though it was in a monsson and Owensboro has beaten Evansville Reitz who still only has one lose on the season and then just beat #6 in 6A Daviess Co. by 20. I know John Hardin is good they always have a good team but I am waiting until they play someone higher up in the standings before I say they are the team to beat this year. Oh and Owensboro also held Hoptown to 14 points and at the time hoptown was averaging just a shade under 50 a game. Good thing for JH is Owensboro and BG are in the same region this year so they will only have to play one of them and most likely it will be at home to go to the finals.

Well everyone in Owensboro thinks this is the year the Panthers put it to the Devils! What do you think? My Opinion is it is not going to happen. Devils win 31-14!
