I would have loved to have heard the radio broadcast of the game. The announcers had to be going crazy trying to call play by play when there was no play!

 

You have to fill time. We talked about everything under the sun last night during the game. The benefit of having Coach Stamm as my broadcast partner is the insight he gives. He broke down exactly all of the reasons why Coaches Richey did what they did. IMO, it was excellent strategy. You have to play to win, no matter what. There are to Region runner-ups going to Diddle.

 

The funniest comment came from Coach Jack Kaelin from CovCath who is the official scorer when he asked the female official if she was actually going to take the money for calling the game. Her reaction, "Oh h311 yes I am".

 

What Coach Stamm brought up at the end was that Highlands had 15 possessions and committed 10 turnovers. ND had 6 points off of those turnovers. When you have so few possessions, everything gets magnified and the margin for error is so small that things like that get blown up.

 

Highlands also had open looks off the block but not using the backboard made those 4-6 foot shots not go in, again, few possessions makes those misses huge and it cost them the game.

 

Statman Hensley is trying to see if this is the lowest scoring game ever. The record books only show the most points not the least. We had more listeners last night than combined points scored. As word got around, we saw a spike in listeners and by the end of the game, we actually had the most listeners live of any game we have done this year. We tried to get Coach Fookes to call in to Coach Stamm's phone and interview her during the game, but the message didn't get to her.

 

We're glad to broadcast the girls games, if this does end up being the lowest scoring game ever, just another first for us. We're here all week, but sure to tip your broadcaster........

Few answers and a few comments.

This game was not nor will it ever be a "feel good" "hoorah" we finally made it to the Regional tourney and "we get to play in the big venue" atmosphere mentality for Highlands. Highlands is Highlands and is an established program, so for the politically correct that thinks everyone should get a participation award for all their hard work during the season, well I say, when you accepted your role on the team and put on the uniform that is your reward, not how many playing mins or pts scored but representing your school and playing as a team and yes, having alot of fun doin it.

 

And yes, ND is that good and yes, they could have pressed, trapped and caused turnovers and scored pts off their defense forcing Highlans out of the stall, but guess what, they didnt.

 

You talk about the disparity, well this game had alot of it. Highlands fell off the map early in the season when they lost their point guard and floor leader and never really close to being the same team. You could probably ask any coach in the Region what the lost of AA meant to Highlands and they will confirm the tale of two seasons.

 

Yes, they had the same supporting cast in place but never could find their identity after losing AA which caused lots of issues.

 

The good news is Highlands loses 1 starting Sr and 2 other Srs. and will return a nice team and hopefully will be able to compete next yr.

 

When was the last time HHS won the region? Has the current coach won a district title since being there?IDK

I understand where everyone is coming from on this LONG thread. One Coach (Richey-Highlands) decided to play a certain way. That is her right and choice as Head Coach. Norte Dame Coach, I am sure had a game plan. My question to all of this "Why is nobody giving Norte Dame coach grief?" Norte Dame coach let this happen............IF I am coaching and I have a better team and the other team had one of their better players out, I am going for the knockout by halftime. Norte Dame coach didn't give their team the best chance to WIN (even though they did), they fell into the trap and about got caught. So I am saying BAD COACHING on Norte Dame staff..............And as far as the poster who said Norte Dame will win region and go far into state (STOP DREAMING)..........

Jamie will catch some flack for this but, in reality, I pass more blame to Nicole for LETTING it happen. If you're better force HHS to dribble, pass, and shoot.

Wow. I was on the fence on going last night. Glad I didn't. I feel bad for the seniors on the team. Ashley Kraus, Sidney Watson. Kelsey Kowolonek. All very dedicated to the program. Highlands should be returning a decent team next year with a nice current jr. class. However if a "superstar" middle schooler catches the coaches eye and jumps over the upperclass players, I don't see the results ever being any different.
