Grant County 55 Walton Verona 50

Don't think I ever said that....not even sure what kids he coached but I think Trevor would be only one left.

Best of luck to Grant boys rest of the way, I have nothing but respect for how hard those boys play. If this years Walton team had the toughness & will to rebound of Grants players they would still be playing.

Agreed on the toughness and will to rebound.

BGcat, do you really think the majority of parents and players say 4th grade through varsity are happy with program? Why so many defections of good players no longer playing? I think this years junior class is now completely gone.

If your a longtime Grant fan do you think Coach Wendroff would approve of current Grant program from top to bottom?

First of all I am a long time Grant County fan and I believe Coach Hicks and his staff are doing a great job. Coach Hicks is very demanding and gets the most out of his players. The so many defections are players that decided to quit. I am around the parents and players and I hear nothing but positive statements.

You just made yourself look stupid!! You said that Grants players had the toughness and will to rebound. Who do you think is responsible for them being so tough and the fact that they play so hard? Coach Hicks and the coaching staff. But according to you in earlier post the program is in bad shape.

So now only kids who play for coach hicks bust their chops? Okay got it. I'm sure there are plenty of "snubs" on the region picks but they aren't crying about it. They are simply happy their teams continue to win.

Okay....I get it now! "You" can only think inside the box so let me explain this a little further for ya! This is a Grant / WV thread and since WV did have two players selected to the "ALL REGION", I opted to comment about the players from the GC team that didn't make it! I'm thrilled for any PLAYER that was selected to the all region team and wish them much success! Now, its time for ya to get out of the box for a brief second and hear me out before making any conclusions....I still question the validity of how this years 8th region team was chosen! How can there be just one person behind a closed door counting all of the ballots by him/herself and then publishing the results without verification from some accounting firm like its done at the Miss America pageant....OK, maybe most people would shut up about it if all of the coaches could set in a room and confirm the results together. BTW, I guess since you always had to say "PUTMEINCOACH", you probably weren't ever on the list either!

Classy. Like most of this thread.

Keep whining about an all region team and I'll keep being happy my team wins.

This thread is like watching a car wreck. Ugly but hard to turn away from.

Any good actual game discussion? Strategies that did or didn't work?

WV couldn't figure out the defense, Johnson and Cummins did a great job on McNeil
I am curious to read what WV fans have to say about their season.

Congrats to Grant County. They played hard in all four games against Walton. I don't think it is a secret that Waltn believe they would do better this season but never got on track.

I would like to apologize to GC fans & especially players, my comment about GC's program should of been saved for another day.

This thread was about how hard GC's boys played last night and flat out earned a win. My comment was probably spurred by remarks made to me by people who show up forto district games and really know nothing about either program.

Once again Congrats to coach Hicks & staff for great defensesive game plan & to players for their execution.

We can debate the schedule, defections, program after the season on different thread. Give us something to get through summer.

always lived in Grant Co., and have kids Walton school...that should make it pretty obvious for most GC fans.

And that is a perfect example of what the problem is. I do appreciate you finally giving our boys props though.

Reminds me of one of the message boards in the endzone back in the good please days. Lol!

A few things stood out in my mind...

1.) Grant had Johnson chasing McNeil most of the night, and I think it really frustrated him. He ended up taking a couple of three's in the second half that were a good 4-6 feet behind the line, just because he hadn't gotten to shoot as much as I think he normally would. (And to his credit, he made both of them!)

1a.) Moeves' shot got tighter as the game went on. He made some shots in close at the beginning, but on the perimeter, it almost looked like Grant dared him to beat them with the jumper. And when the shots started to NOT fall, I think he started to press even more. (Especially knowing McNeil wasn't getting many looks).

2.) Johnson only had 3 or 4 points I think (all from the free throw line), but he handled the ball a lot in the backcourt, and was able to bring it up despite facing a double team quite often, without turning it over. The Braves did have a couple of TO's at mid court (by other players) that led to easy points for the Bearcats (one was Hargett's dunk), but for the most part, Walton really had to earn their points. Not a lot of gimmies...and most of that credit probably should go to Johnson.

3.) Mario Coleman was a downright stud in the paint. I can't imagine he's played a better game rebound-wise. In my mind, he was solely focused on getting the ball off the glass. He wasn't looking to score that much, but he worked his tail off for position once the ball went in the air.

What I think is truly interesting about this thread or nearly any other thread on BGP's is that people see things completely differently depending on which side you're on. A couple commonalities throughout this thread I think are:

1) Coleman was a beast on the glass.

2) Grant was the tougher team (at least in this meeting).

Other then that I would say everything is up for debate. But based on my view I would say that CincySportsFan is pretty accurate. (We must have been sitting in the same part of the gym).

Whichever side you were on, you have to admit, it was a good competitive game to watch. WV has a very strong program and rest assured....they'll be back next year....with a chip on their shoulders. Could be fun to watch for years to come.

Good luck Braves the rest of the way.
