  1. I am so glad to see that somebody noticed a kid for more then shooting 20 or 30 times a game! Congratulations to him.
  2. I will definitely say congrats to SK. As a matter of fact I told two of their coaches congratulations after the game. I would say more, but I'll leave it at that or I'll get myself in trouble.
  3. Darius Miller is my kind of player. Wish he played for the Bucks but oh well. Still an outstanding player that doesn't get much love on the college level.
  4. That kid doesn't get any love? I'm shocked. I'm glad I started this thread!!!! Nice to see some film.
  5. Names? This thread is meant to recognize them. Thanks.
  6. This thread is doing exactly what I had hoped. We're seeing some names that, I for one, haven't heard before. Keep it going, these kids deserve it.
  7. I heard an interesting observation the other day. A teacher told Andrew Hurley that "you know, you are Grant County's Darius Miller. You go out night after night and lay it on the line. You bump and bang, scrap for loose balls, rebound against bigger opponents.....in other words.....you do the dirty work without all the accolades. You should be proud of yourself." I thought to myself, there has to be 100's of kids that do the same thing. So this thread is for you. Lets hear about some kids out there that do the same thing but maybe don't get recognized much. This isn't for the kid who scores all the time, this is for the kid(s) who makes it possible for someone else to score all the time. This is your thread to shine.
  8. Completely wide open. Should be fun to watch though.
  9. What I think is truly interesting about this thread or nearly any other thread on BGP's is that people see things completely differently depending on which side you're on. A couple commonalities throughout this thread I think are: 1) Coleman was a beast on the glass. 2) Grant was the tougher team (at least in this meeting). Other then that I would say everything is up for debate. But based on my view I would say that CincySportsFan is pretty accurate. (We must have been sitting in the same part of the gym). Whichever side you were on, you have to admit, it was a good competitive game to watch. WV has a very strong program and rest assured....they'll be back next year....with a chip on their shoulders. Could be fun to watch for years to come. Good luck Braves the rest of the way.
  10. Pure entertainment in this thread! Wow....I must not have a life.
  11. Maybe not a dominate force, but they did beat a good Owen County team which many predict to be a regional contender and took Simon Kenton to the wire. So with that and the fact that I just couldn't help myself......I had to post it.
  12. Sweet! You sound a little Sour! Just kidding.....thought I'd throw a little humor on the fire!
  13. Well said. Hats off to you Scrapper. When you lose to a team 3 times in one year but win the only one that matters, it makes for a very jubilant crowd.
  14. We might not have any "All Region" players. But all of our players are going to the Region!
  15. Congrats to all the Braves! Hunt, Hurley, Coleman, Carr, Cummins and Johnson. Good team ball tonight. Never gave up, kept scrapping. On to SK and a Regional birth.
  16. Could someone out there please post the criteria or protocol used for choosing All Region players? I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the list but it would certainly be helpful in understanding it.
  17. Agreed. For that reason alone, a lot of good players get left behind.
  18. I'm sorry if you misunderstood me, I said "could be quite different" not that they were quite different. I didn't mean to insinuate that ANY player mentioned was selfish. As a matter of fact I believe I said that they were both fine ballplayers. The point of my post was to say that choosing "All Region" players is about more then offensive stats. In this case, the problem is not with the players, it's with the availability of "complete stats" and/or criteria used to choose players. I personally agree that there were several players left off the list or at least left out of consideration. Hunt and Carr being 2 of them. They both had very good years and along with others should have at least gotten an honorable mention or something. They are both good ball players and great kids and certainly deserved consideration.
  19. Actually only Jordan and Pippen are the only 2 starters on all 6 teams. Jordan attained 6 titles with basically 3 different groups of players and was voted to the All-NBA Defensive First Team 8 times. But like you said....that's for another thread. The question was asked why 2 players with basically the same offensive stats would not both make it on the "All Region" team. I was merely pointing out that while offensively they may appear similar, as a "total package" they could be quite different. The sad thing is.... there are 1000's of players out there that never get the recognition they deserve because the headlines are only concerned about who the "leading scorer" was. I witnessed a player about 5 years ago that had 18 assists in a single game, although he was congratulated after the game, it wasn't a big deal to most. Those 18 assists lead to at least 36 points and a victory for his team....yet nobody remembers his name.
  20. There is much much more to the game of basketball then offensive scoring stats. Just because a player from any team (boys, girls, middle school, high school, college, NBA) takes the majority of their teams shots, doesn't make them a great basketball player. It will, more times then not, make them the leading scorer but not necessarily "All Region". Too many players, parents and coaches place so much emphasis on offensive stats that they completely forget about who's playing defense, blocking shots, deflecting passes, going after loose balls, creating turnovers, communicating with teammates, rebounding, encouraging younger players and a stat that isn't even listed on KHSAA......ASSISTS! Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to devalue their offensive accomplishments because both of the players listed in this thread are fine ballplayers and I'm sure, great kids. I'm not sure how or who chooses "All Region" players but I would like to think that they choose players based on who they feel has (as close to) the complete package. But one thing I know for sure is....good players do some of these things well but great players do all of these things well. Iverson could score 50 and lose.....yet Jordan has 6 rings!
  21. Congratulations to Kristian, he's a great kid on and off the court!
