CBS Ranks top 16 Teams of All Time

I always hate lists like this, because of how high the 1982 Carolina team is ranked. The 2009 Carolina team was far better, and probably the 2005 team too. But people cannot separate Michael Jordan the pro from Michael Jordan the collegian. MJ is the best of all-time IMO, but he was only a freshman that year. As a collegian he averaged slightly under 18 ppg & was not the best player of all-time until later.

As much as I hate Duke, I don't see how their 1991-92 team is ranked so low, seeing as how they won back-to-back titles. I see Christian Laettner as one of the greatest college players ever. The UNLV team of that same era was perhaps the most dominant team I've ever seen in my lifetime. 1996 Kentucky is also in that conversation. 1982 Carolina was obviously very, very good. But no way do I rank them so high.

Gary Parrish is officially an idiot. He's got to be the only person who ranked a team that didn't even make the Final Four, right?

He averaged 17.7 ppg for his career in college (13.4 ppg as a freshman). He was a consensus first team All-American twice and player of the year prior to entering the draft early and going #3 overall. Let's not downplay it too much. Perhaps nobody saw him going on to become the greatest of all time, but he was great as a college player and everybody did know that. That team also had James Worthy and Sam Perkins. You can argue however you want, but I know Carolina has never had a team that was far better than that.

It may just be me but I don't see the 2008 Kansas team being better than either Duke team from the 90's.

Even as a UC fan, I don't see that team as the 16th best all-time. If Kenyon doesn't get hurt, and they go deep in the tourney then maybe there's an argument...maybe.

Jeff Borzello listed the 1954 Kentucky team (25-0) that boycotted the NCAA Tourney. However, had that team been allowed to play in the tournament at full strength, it would have probably won it and been herald as one of the all time great teams.

There are a lot of players that put up those numbers, and certainly a lot of players that would put up those numbers if they stayed in school for more than one year. Michael Jordan was an outstanding collegian, but not in the conversation for best of all-time at the college level.

And I'll take the 2009 team--a team that won their six NCAA tournament games by margins of 43, 14, 21, 12, 14 & 17 (average of 20.2...15.6 if you take away the 1st round game)--over the 1982 squad who won by 2, 5, 10, 5 & 1 (average of 4.6). Neither did the 2009 team need one of the most boneheaded passes in NCAA championship history to seal the victory. That 2009 team also had a two-time All-American & national player of the year in Tyler Hansbrough & 4 first round NBA draft picks.

It's not even close between the two IMO.

Considering they defeated the eventual National Champion and Tom Gola in the regular season by 13 points:

They also defeated LSU with Bob Pettit on a neutral court to claim the SEC Crown: http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/Games/19540309LouisianaState.html

Add to that 2 Hall of Fame players in Hagan and Ramsey and you've got an argument.

Someone needs to tell them to go to ESPN's "Wooden Watch" blog. The KU fans are out in full force over there talking about how overrated Davis is and how Withey is on par with him.

Didnt the 82 Carolina team also have Sam Perkins and James Worthy? It wasnt all about Jordan. Also, Georgetown was led by Patrick Ewing. I understand about the list though. I would play any of these teams with Dr's of Dunk 1980 Louisville team lead by Griffith, Derek Smith, and Rodney McCray
