Officials for Regional Tournaments... Trading Regions

Featured Replies

Is this same Pouncy that called the Championship game last year? If so even the good ones miss calls (Townsends three that was called a two)

He did call the game. The video doesn't quite support your theory that it was missed. Way too close to know one way or the other.

It looked like an obvious three to me in person and on video. I was setting in the first row for that game and from my angle it really was an obvious three, and IMO Pouncy was the worst official in the tournament.

I have to agree, it was a three from what I seen at the game and on video..... I had never seen Pouncy call before that, so I don't have enough knowledge to call him a good or bad official, but he did not do very well in the championship game.

This year, I have heard that the 10th will have the 16th region officials.
I hope you get Lyle and Hall. Not sure who else, but they are very good.

Good luck with whoever gets the 16th regions ___?__ . Do not know what to call them but its not referees.

Officials going to different regions makes no sense to me. I've coached in both situations and having the officials stay in the original region is best for the players. Of course, all that the KHSAA does isn't always what's best for the student/athletes. The players are used to how the officials in their region call and therefore have little surprises in the region. Games are not always officiated the same from region to region and a lot of times it takes the players some time to adjust. This can have an adverse effect on the game and most definitely the outcome.

It is funny how Lyle was the best ref in the state when he is the BBA and now he is the 16th he stinks. Another example of how people instinctively think the big city refs are better.

Who said Lyle was bad? Did I miss that?

It all goes back to coaches scratches. The best officials were not working the region finals and semi-finals because they were scratched by the coaches playing (strategic move by coaches). When officials can leave their region, the best officials get to work.

Does Bobby Hall still referee high school ball?

He's a very good official. He's an okay guy.:p

He may read this, so I can't give him too much praise. I've known him since we were boys. Looooooong time ago.

I went to one referee camp in my 13 years of officiating and something he told me stuck with me my entire career. Can't tell you what it was though. I promised not to leak the secret. I contribute him a little bit for all the good games/post season games I got throughout my career.

I've seen Cary Lyle call many a game; one of the better ones around IMHO.
