rockmom
Back story: So, back in July I took a job about an hour and a half drive from my home, and really, wasn't any big deal. I like driving. Got a new car, and it is a REALLY enjoyable experience now that I have windows that roll down, a stereo, and a muffler. But then the Sherman Minton bridge was closed. OK...I can deal with that...I just crank up the stereo, forget going anywhere fast, and enjoy the extra time to do nothing. I'm a patinet driver...stay several car lengths behind the car in front of me to let other vehicles merge, etc. But, it can still be more than a little nerve-wracking, with people doing some crazy stuff to force their way into traffic. So, tonight I was driving home, same ole', same ole'. Then, I get off the interstate and head through downtown (my "shortcut"). I get to an intersection that is difficult to turn left from, and I'm behind a car that doesn't have any turn signals on, at the stop light. I'm on Bardstown Road (Louisvillians will know what I'm talking about). The lane to the right is clear, but parking is allowed, so I stay in the lane that I know will be unobstructed, behind the car I mention above. As soon as the light turns green, the car in front of me turns his left turn signal on. I'm stuck. Other cars have started using the right lane and I can't get over. That really ticked me off! Why didn't the guy turn his signal on before other drivers were stuck behind him?! Jerk move, IMO! Now to the real reason I'm asking the question: A little further up, I get stopped in a long line of traffic. I'm sort of in front of an entrance to a fast food place. I have maybe a quarter car length space between me and the next car. I'm sitting there, and a car comes up from the other direction and starts turning to go into the fast food place. It's going to be tight, if he can make it. He starts gesturing at me and yelling. I can't hear him, but I can see him. Then he starts gesturing at me to back up. Well, by now I'm totally over inconsiderate, rude, obnoxious, overbearing, road-hog drivers. I act like I don't know what he's trying to get me to do. Eventually, he forces his way through. He's tapping his head like "THINK! THINK!". Then I got even more mad. I could have backed up. I know. There was a little room. But it was the principle of the thing! He didn't even indicate he wanted to turn, just started trying to force me to let him through. And now, my conscience kicks in. I should have been nicer, shouldn't I? I took out my ticked-off'd-ness on an innocent guy, didn't I? What do you think I should have done?
ColonelCrazy
It depends on how busy the road is. The busier the road, the more reluctant I would be to reverse, even if I thought I could do so safely.
formerkywrestler
Bardstown Rd is free-for-all. I turn into the most aggressive driver in the lower 48 when I'm forced onto Bardstown.
nky_harry
If I were the guy trying to turn in to the fast food place, I would hope that someone would leave me enough space to get through, but I would never expect someone in a car on the road to back up to accommodate me. You didn't do anything wrong. You should never go in reverse while on the road - unless there are some extreme safety reasons to do so.

Clyde
To answer your question, yes, you should have been nicer. I get it. I have done it. That doesnt make it right. Why let it raise your stress level?

mcpapa
When someone acts like that, I have often found myself needing to remove something from my eye. Usually with my longest finger.
stickymitts
Further proof women shouldn't be allowed to drive. I kid, I kid. No reason to worry, IMO.
