I checked out the UK and U of L rosters for 2011 :

Looks to me that height doesn't mean that much at wide reciever, especially at Louisville. Of course these teams have taller recievers but this shows that you don't have to be ten feet tall to play in college. Of the players that I have listed , I don't know how many are scholly players, if any.

 

I'm pretty sure all those guys are 4.3 to 4.4 guys. My whole point is...he would've been offered if he's as good as you think he is. Obviously those schools stayed off of him for a reason. I don't know his 40 time or what kind of hands he has. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.

Wes Welker was undrafted in 2004 out of Texas Tech.

 

But he went to a D1 school on scholarship. He also was the equivalent to KY's Mr Football his senior year in high school. Was Sheehan Mr. Football? Was he even considered? That's funny , they said the same thing about Welker when HE was in high school. Welker didn't average 35 yards per catch in high school his senior year.

 

I see your point and I can tell you haven't seen Sheehan " live on Friday night" , he my friend, is a BURNER, no doubt about it.

AND he received a D1 Scholarship to a Big 12 school! I have seen him " live on Friday night" and he's fast relative to the speed that is here in NKY. Is he as fast as the Collinsworth kid who went to ND? How many skilled players (WR, RB, CB, S) get D1 scholarships out of NKY? Not many. Probably 4 or 5 in last 6 or so years. Speed!!!!! It's not here in NKY. Sure there are a few here and there but not like other places.

I think he should play where he feels the most comfortable. Obviously he has the talent to play at some of these schools or they wouldn't have offered the preferred walk on. He may not get a full ride right away to any of these D1 schools but if he works hard, he has a shot. Interesting fact since I did not know anything about Welker other than his size, Texas Tech is the only school that offered him a scholarship out of high school and that was over a week after signing day because hey had a recruit back out. So it wasn't like he had his choices even though he was all everything in high school. Even though he wasn't drafted out of college, San Diego signed him but cut him. I bet they wish they had him now. Also, Deion Branch, another starting wide receiver for the superbowl pats did not get a scholarship offer out of high school. These players are probably few and far between, but just because you don't get a full ride doesn't mean you can't play ball. You're just not the protype size or speed they are looking for.

Highlands has 2 from this year alone QB and safety ,UK and UC. So your numbers may be a little off.

Well actually one if you look at the criteria I stated above. QB's don't count. I was primarily focused on positions where speed is a crucial factor.

Wrong guy, homey. All I did was point out that Welker was undrafted and went to Texas Tech. I have no dog in this fight. I only want to know what offers Sheehan has that aren't preferred walk on opportunities.

 

I did enjoy watching him play against Boyle this past season. He is a heck of a receiver and Carter New is a heck of a DB. One of the best returns I have witnessed in person.

Sheehan runs the 40 in the 4.5s and also has very good hands. The one thing I really like about Austin is that he adjust to the ball extremely well..

If "The Ohio St" is calling then it is a no brainer imo. Now, LN was spot on in saying go to a school that your parents can afford, and if mom and dad can help make it happen then go for it.

Just because a kid is recieving a scholy from a school doesnt necessarily make that the right school for him. Too many times kids fall in the trap of taking the first offer or money that is thrown their way only to find themselves standing on the sidelines on Sat afternoons playing in front of 700 ppl and sporting a 2-8 record.

Nothing wrong with that if that is what makes you happen and if your decision has been based solely on the school but I can tell you from experience this has not been the case and has not worked out well for Highlands kids. I dont fault them for their decisions because they follow their hearts and there is nothing wrong with that imo.

I don't follow your logic. If Sheehan goes to a school that's 2-8 and has 700 people in the stands, he will NOT be on the sidelines - he'll be playing. If he goes to a big school, he'll (maybe) have thousands in the stands, but there's a lesser chance he will play and even big schools go 2-8. And he may be on the sidelines.

 

Generally speaking I think these "tweeners" like Sheehan have a choice between being the big fish in the small pond or the small fish in the big pond. Does that mean they can't become the big fish in the big pond? No, but the chances are pretty slim. But if they go small school and dominate, they may have regrets and what-if's.

 

From a purely football perspective I think Sheehan is a good fit for EKU or a MAC-type school. Big enough to be a challenge and to play some good competition, small enough to get plenty of playing time.

 

None of this is meant as a slight of Sheehan or his talent. I've seen him play and he's very talented. I think, given the opportunity, that he could be an impact player in a big D1 team. My concern is whether he would ever get that opportunity due to the bias regarding his size. The big guys are going to get the first shot and if they do well, he'll linger on the bench. And that would be a shame.

Some valid points in previous post; however no shame if he is happy. I bleed SEC so big ten WHO, IMO I think he could be very successful at KY. He has chemistry with the Towels that is important look at Ocha now. Congrats again Ozzie.

Then again, you look at a kid like Austin Collinsworth. A whole lot of folks said he'd never get on the field at Notre Dame. If you read the recruiting blogs after Austin committed to go to ND, most said he wasn't big enough, wasn't tall enough, wasn't fast enough and wasn't quick enough. Has already been on the field a fair amount, particularly on special teams, and there's a pretty good chance he'll get a fair amount of time next year on the defensive squad. How could that be, when there are faster, bigger, quicker kids on the team? Because he WANTS it.

 

If Ozzie decides to go to UK, I wouldn't bet against him because I think he wants it too. He'll have to want it bad though to put himself in a position to get playing time.

No ,Sheehan was not Mr. Football , nor was Austin Collinsworth , and we see where AC is now. AC is one of the players in the skill position from NKY that you seem to think are nearly extinct.
