Colts Fire Jim Caldwell

Featured Replies

I think this is unfair to Caldwell. I believe that this past season was the perfect example of how a team can't be built completely around one player. Plan B, C, etc. needs to be in place.

I agree.

I'm in Indy today. The majority of folks are happy with the move.

How mad is Jeff Fisher right now...

Now that he signed that contract that makes him the second highest paid coach in the NFL......probably not mad at all.

I never thought Caldwell seemed like a great NFL coach. I don't blame them for going in another direction.

The Colts have a long way to go with or without Manning. I hope he retires to salvage his legacy...

Not if he's healthy. If his neck fully heals he has at least 2-3 good years left in him.

Pretty sure there would be a bunch of teams wanting his service. Cowboys, Jets, Cardinals, & Texans would be immediate threats to win it all.

Peter King says Fischer did not want to coach at Indy.

I just don't understand how you fire a guy for losing his quarterback for the year.

More to it than that. The guy is a corpse! Brad Childress, as awful as he is, would be a better choice.

Really? Brad Childress? Surely not.

If Manning leaves Indy my facebook feed will EXPLODE. It will be like Tebowgedon x100 -- only quite comical from my viewpoint.

Mine as well, never been much of a Manning fan, any Manning.

OK, an extreme example, but the bottom line is that Caldwell didn't come up with anything to cover for the loss of Peyton. They've got all those alleged Pro Bowlers on the Colts and they couldn't do any better than 2-14? Either that makes Peyton the greatest player of all-time (I think I just threw up in my mouth) and the rest of the team is a bunch of scrubs, or Caldwell is incapable of coaching what is supposed to be a talented group and is absolutely nothing without Peyton. I think we got our answer, and it's the latter.

Darth Hoodie got Caldwell fired.....heck he got both Polians fired as well.

Brady goes down, the Pats go 11-5....Peyton goes down, the Colts go 2-14.......end of story. And I'm glad.

You hope he retires to salvage his legacy? The guy was still playing as one of the top 5 QB's in the league before his injury, it was not like his play had a big decline. If he is healthy, then NO WAY he should retire. If healthy he is probably still at worst a top 10 QB. I have never understood why people think someone should retire to protect their legacy? If a guy can still play, then they should still play. Even if its not at the top level they use to be at.

It's easy for us to say a guy should retire, because we never had the chance to decide when we stopped playing. All of us on here had to stop playing because we had no choice, we just were not good enough to play in the pros. I know I would have a very hard time to decide to stop playing a sport I love. Protecting your legacy is overrated. People start playing the game for the love the game, and if they can still produce even if its not at the same level and protect theirselves then no reason to give it up.

The feeling in Indy is that Peyton has played his last game for the Colts.

Didn't the Colts lose Sorgi for the season also? I'd imagine the Pats, Saints, Giants and Packers would all be less thanstellarif they lost their franchise quarterbacks for the season AND the one backup who knows the system. Caldwell was 24-8 with Peyton, didn't Caldwell coach the team that lost to the Saints in the Super Bowl, and he loses Peyton and Sorgi and goes 2-14 and gets canned? Just doesn't seem right.

They may as well go ahead and say they aren't picking up Peyton's option instead of dragging it out. Cleaning house for Luck is what seems to be taking place. All of Peyton's men are either gone or on their way out. May as well dump Reggie Wayne for draft picks also.
