Good question. Had this convo today. BW hosts it but it seems like the last time they hosted it the tourney was at Holmes. I can't imagine HC and CCH like that idea.

At this moment Beechwood intends to play at their place. They are looking at Thomas More, but it probably will be at Beechwood. There will be lots of fans turned away.

Tim O'Hara was not with the original crew from Friday. However, that is an upgrade.

 

Holmes's defense was excellent tonight. 2-2-1 full court and when Holy Cross used Campbell for pressure release, Holmes did not guard him and went directly to cover the two guards forcing them to slow down a bit.

In the halfcourt, Holmes really closed out well and really defended the wings making post entry passes difficult. They played mainly 2-3 extended in the halfcourt.

Campbell hit some threes from the top but didn't score anything on postups. The rest were mainly stickbacks. He had a couple of midrange jumpers blocked by Rice.

Holmes got a handful of steals when Holy Cross tried to skip the ball.

 

Holy Cross played primarily full court man with denial and run and jump but Holmes's guards were able to split traps and get into transition. Holmes was hitting everything in the third quarter. Knox was taking it right to Campbell and used his body to score on three straight trips and then added a stickback on the 4th possession.

 

Holmes took care of the ball and reversed it and penetrated gaps and had kids hit open shots.

 

The Waller kid for Holmes played really well and was active on defense.

 

Holy Cross got very little if anything off of penetration and most of their threes were contested.

 

They played hard but Holmes probably couldn't play any better than they did in the 3rd quarter.

 

The crowd was probably 80% full which is not bad considering the weather and no sale of tickets.

 

As for Cov. Cath. and Holy Cross, clearly the Indians have an advantage with Campbell, but Ruthsatz and CCH are going to cause Holy Cross problems if Holy Cross presses them. Ruthsatz can beat their pressure by himself.

Goetz was smart to keep Campbell off Rice...the one time the two were matched up one on one Rice took him off the dribble at the top of the key, blew by him, and layed it in over several defenders just before the end of the third quarter.

Tim O'Hair was the ref that filled in for Bob Cole from the first game. Not sure they wanted Cole on this game after the call at the end of the Cov Cath game on Tuesday night ?
