With all due respect, I say the price is the price. Most schools rely heavily on gate from basketball and football that goes into a fund that supports all of the "minor sports". Some schools have a general athletic budget. Where else are folks gonna go and get that atmosphere for 5 bucks? If you don't have it, stay at the house. Just sayin'. Oh, and I know we are gonna get the family of 7 argument with 1 playing and 6 to pay entry. Well, goes with the territory. Have granny watch the rugrats while you go to the game. Not like the 5yr old is gonna remember any of it anyway. More likely to roll around in the hallway or in the stands in the flattened skittles anyway.

I disagree, What is gained if Mom and Dad leave the other three children at home to watch the one that is playing. You get $10.00 either way. I believe Campbell County has a family deal. Not completely sure but I believe it's 5 for $15.00. They as well have season sport passes for $75.00 which get you into all home high school and middle school sporting events, girls and boys. They have student passes as well I believe. I too believe that A honor roll students should get in free or at a reduced price.

Couldn't disagree more with your statement. I agree that schools rely on the gate from basketball and football, but you can't offer a senior discount? Most of the seniors are paying more than their fair share to support the school system through property taxes, even though their children have long since passed through the halls. I'm not saying they should get in for free, but a dollar of two off is not going to cripple the athletic budget of most schools...of course there are exceptions.

Officials will typically show their pass and gain free admission, however, some games (ie; local rivalry games, District, etc..) those are not honored. Many officials see free admission to games as part of the "benefit package" for officials. The amount of driving all over the state at their own expense and the time commitments far outweigh the game fees they receive and for the officials to get better, they need to watch games. Call it professional development for the betterment of the game..:popcorn:

 

I fully support the gate funding the athletic programs. The greatest expense for games is for officials. A 3 man crew for a Varsity bball game will cost a school about $200. On a weeknight, you need 40 + adults just to cover the official fees for the Varsity game. For smaller schools, they may not get enough of a gate to cover expenses.

Like dd734 said Campbell County has an all sports pass for adults and it is $75 for adults and $40 for students. Every in season athlete also gets a free pas for those in season sports as well. So all football players could get into all soccer & volleyball games for free and vice versa. It works out very well and I think it is a nice thing for the athletic department to do. I also think, all Campbell County senior citizens can call the central office and get a senior citizen pass which will get them into all activities within the school district.

 

Also, everyone says don't make the parents pay for the 10 year olds, well I have to disagree especially, for Campbell County. For the boys basketball and football games the band runs the concession and the athletic department sees none of the profits. A minimal charge of $3 I think is a good charge.

Jeff. Co officials make $52 a game. With a double header with girls officials alone cost $312. May not sound like a lot but if your fans are not filling the stands then you stand to lose a lot of money at games. Letting people in free and at reduced prices doesnt pay bills. Really dont have a problem with children 5/6 and under getting in free, but kids older than that usually run all over the place, schools end up running a baby sitting service. I may think different when Im a senior citizen, but I certainly dont think I would have a problem paying $5 to watch my grandson/daughter play basketball.

I respectfully disagree. Gate money is the basis for operations of high school athletics. I don't think that the statistically wealthiest portion of the population should receive free or reduced entry.

When I go scout a football game I get in free, however, I do spend money at the concession stand and purchase split the pot tickets I usually give the split the pot ticket back with the football teams name on it so if I did win they would get the money for whatever they wanted to use it for. Granny paid full price ($) and is sitting in the front row at the game with her soda and hot dog from the concession stand. ($$) The parents also paid full price. ($$) They had to take the rugrats ($$) because they are too young to leave them at home, and Granny was watching her grandson/daughter play ball. The Rugrats ate their dinner at the concession stand, pizza, hot dogs, and soda. ($$)

Those rugrats will also be playing high school ball someday. So the parents and the grandparents will continue to support the school when they attend the rugrats' games. ($$$$$$$$)

If I'm not mistaken, the Home team has the choice of either 2 or 3 officals for basketball games.

Who sets the referee fees? Are they union or what? Do they get their gas paid for to the game? $20 a game is plenty enough at any level
