What was Oklahoma ranked in 2006? They were 11th after the bowl games, which makes me think they were close to the top five before that?

That was a great game and IMO one of the best Boise teams under Peterson's tenure. I was actually rooting for Boise State that game.

I changed it to I don't believe the hype.

 

For the record I think Kansas State is garbage also AND I have never claimed to be an expert evaluator of college football. I don't believe the hype on Boise State until they beat a team from a BCS conference that is top 5 at the end of the year. Still waiting.....

 

You just answered your whole problem with this in your last sentence. There was only one way to find out if they were truly garbage as you say. I mean they go out and beat teams the last 3 years that probably would have been top 5 teams if they didn't lose to a good Boise team. So all it would have taken was to put them in a BCS bowl against a top 5 team to see if they really belonged. Which by the way I believe TCU might have been a top 5 team when Boise beat them in the Fiesta bowl. So Boise was able to do what one of your precious BCS teams couldn't do and that was beat TCU in a BCS Bowl. Which was crap that they put those teams teams against each other. Basically just went to show that they don't want teams like Boise to beat top BCS teams. Everyone talks about how its about the money for BCS bowls, so if that was the case they would have had a top money school play against each one of those teams in BCS Bowls. College football doesn't want those teams to get shots to beat the best, because goes to show even more how flawed their system is by not having a playoff.

I completely agree, that's the only problem I had with the BCS Bowl selections. The ACC has been average at best and continues to be.

Oregon was 8th going into the season when Boise beat them at Oregon and Oregon finished 7th at the end of the years. Imagine where they would have been if they just beat that garbage Boise team. Virgina Tech started 6th when Boise beat them at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech ended the year 11th. So a team that would have been a top 5 team or close to it if they just would have beat Boise. Georgia started 18th, however Georgia showed how good they were by only losing one game in the SEC during the regular season. A team that if they beat Boise would have been playing for a shot at the National Championship when they played LSU in the SEC Championship game.

 

So that garbage team basically has beaten top 5 teams like you wanted, or team very close to being top 5 team. They did it by beating those teams on their home fields too. But yet they suck and are overrated and can't compete with the big boys? As I said before they have been a legit top 10 team for the last three years. Don't let the name of the jersey take that away from them, they are legit and deserve that credit. They are a team that probably will take a step back now though. However they deserved more respect during this run they had. Now when they don't do as well next year, people will say see told you they were not as good. Even though it won't be this same team anymore.

Yes I am or at least close to it. You know as well as I do that a lost can move teams down pretty far in the polls, or at least 5 spots. So if a team finished in the top 10, it's safe to say if they would have beaten Boise they would have been a top 5 team or just just barely outside the top 5. So once again your point about them not beating anyone is invalid. You talk about how maybe those teams were just not as good as advertised, yet those teams still went on to end in the top 10 basically even with the lost to Boise. So it shows that they just lost to an even better top team than them.

 

There would have been an easy way to settle this argument, and that would have been if they would have just put them in a BCS bowl like they deserved to be over some of these teams who did make it. Yet college football did not want that to happen, so we will never know. Which is a shame because without that happening neither of our opinions will change haha.

Boise St. got the shaft, they should have been in a much better bowl game and are more derserving of a BCS game than a few who did receive a bid. They may take a big drop next year without Moore, but will still be competitive in the Big East.

If the BCS were about pairing the top 10 teams in the country then you would have a point. After the top 2, the rankings are irrelevant.

Boise State guy can pretend they do not like the BCS, but the BCS and lack of a playoff gives Boise the best shot of winning a title and can keep them relevant each season. In a one game scenario, Boise can compete with anyone. They can get up for one game. But doing it consistently over the course of a season or in consecutive weeks via a tournament, in a BCS conference, would be near impossible with their lack of depth or talent.

ASU was just poorly coached....not that I think it'll get better with Pitt's coach. Too many athletes, to constantly be making stupid mistakes.

 

Kind of hard for the new coach to make too big of an impact when he'll jump ship this time next year.

How do you know whether they lack depth or talent? Has anyone here watched them more than once or twice a year? I haven't. I have no idea how they would fair on the same field week after week w/ the SEC West or the Big 10 teams. As has been stated, they will get a chance in the Big East, where travel will be a huge advantage and detriment, but the competition is the weakest among the BCS conferences.
