Anyone else hoping to see the Reds kick the tires on recently non-tendered Joe Saunders?

 

He doesn't excite me at all. I'll even go as far to say that I hope they don't sign him.

^He's better than Volquez, Bailey, or Wood.

 

Assuming the Reds don't make a move, which is probably going to be the case since Walt's scared to ever pull the trigger, you're looking at a rotation that includes Cueto, Chapman (who will have his IP limited), Leake, Arroyo, and one of those guys. I'd take Saunders over them. I'd take a look and see what kind of price tag he's going to be looking for at the very least.

Saunders is going to want atleast 6 million.

 

For a guy that has given up 25+ HR's a year that isn't a good idea at all. Especially pitching in GABP.

Alonso and Grandal alone won't net them anything close to a #1.

Rockies have agreed to sign Michael Cuddyer, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). The Rockies' best and final offer to Cuddyer was believed to be for three years and $27MM, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports.

^Yep. At this point, they almost can't trade Alonso. There's no LF options that are worth a darn now.

 

Looks like they'll go with the same club as last season, and Walt will wonder why they're barely drawing over 17K by mid-June.

Getting rid of Alonso is a tough one. Even without bringing in left field. You have Votto for two more years max. I'm surprised more teams haven't inquired about Votto.

As far as a closer, Jocketty said the Reds continue to talk to Francisco Cordero’s agent.

 

Brad Lidge is another closer the Reds have explored at least preliminarily.

 

“We haven’t exchanged numbers or anything like that,” he said.

 

The Reds still have some trade percolating.

 

“We’re looking at bullpen guys, possible closers,” he said. “We’re also looking at outfield help through trade.”

 

On the list just below left field and closer is a utility infielder who can play shortstop. The Reds talked to Ryan Theriot’s agent. But there have been no recent discussions.

 

“The trade talk has been consuming all my time,” Jocketty said.

 

After the Mat Latos deal, Jocketty sounded like the Reds were close to another deal.

 

“There’s still a chance but it’s taking longer than I than I thought,” he said.

 

Two players reportedly available fit the Reds’ needs: Oakland closer Andrew Bailey and Colorado outfielder Seth Smith.

I'd love to see Bailey here. Smith would be ok with me as well, although outside of fantasy baseball I don't know much about him.
