This was one of those games I watched knowing it was going to be very one sided. The fumble and the drive that followed by Highlands was the ball game.

 

Anyone watching the line play in particular had to know by the 4th quarter HHS would take control. Franklin Simpson's guys were starting to look tired in the second quarter. They just weren't getting any rest, particularly the ones going both ways.

Don't know the player's name, but it was Dixie Heights. I watched the game on tv. It was towards the end of the first half on the visitors sideline. Towles made the tackle on the sideline or it could have been a touchdown.

FS was a quality opponent. Few match speed w/ HHS and they did at many spots. Line play was solid as well. As mentioned earlier, the difference was depth. The tempo of the game and the 2-platoon + rotations at key spots kept HHS fresh and wore FS down. 3 timeouts called in the 1st half and at least 1 in the 2nd half were to simply give the D a chance to breathe.

 

As to Xs & Os, I was surprised HHS did not call TO at the end of the 1st half with FS facing 4th & long. An extra 30 seconds may have resulted in a score for HHS before half and a much steeper hill to climb in the second half at 28-7.

 

Props to the coaching staff for switching to focus on the run the last 3 games of the playoffs. The loss of #6 was significant as it hampered HHS' ability to stretch the field. Coaching staff recognized and started pounding the ball on the ground and using shorter passes & screens. They used the TE as much this year as ever.

 

Drive for Five complete. Search for Six begins on MON when I'm confident there will be underclassmen in the weight room even before 60 minutes starts.
