December 3, 201114 yr Maybe one of our journalists or journalism majors on here can help us. My understanding is that ESPN or the Syracuse newspaper reporter did not report on it was because they could not corroborate the story. Not sure what type of integrity bounds would be breached? I am not condoning what they did or did not do, but I would be willing to bet people in the journalism field get fed tons of information we never hear about. Again, maybe someone can clarify the do's and don'ts of journalism protocol. As a general rule, news outlets shouldn't be printing/broadcasting/publishing rumors that can't be verified. In this particular case (unless I'm missing something), without official charges being filed back in 2002, the potential risk of being sued is probably what scared ESPN away.
December 8, 201114 yr DA said today the sex abuse happened but the state can't charge Fine. Boeheim called out a guy that was sexually assaulted as a kid by a 30 year assistant of University. His days are numbered.

His days are numbered. The DA confirmed the claims were "credible". And obviously he is going to say that. Sucks that the Statue of Limitations ran its course in this one. Usually these creeps have preyed on multiple victims, so maybe someone else will come forward - assuming it happened to someone else. Tomaselli can still take this to civil court can't he?

Tomaselli has some issues with his story. Mainly that his school record shows him in school when he said he was travelling in Pittsburgh. The DA said there was little doubt the abuse happened based on the info they received from the victims. Either way Boeheim who threw them and most importantly possible other victims under the bus then backed it up and an them over again is looking worse. As sad as this is to say they are getting lucky b/c of the PSU scandal.

His days are numbered. You keep saying that yet he is still the coach. If it is a for sure thing that his days are numbered like you keep thinking, then why wait? Why not just fire him now like Penn State did? Especially since their coach in waiting is already on the staff. Once again yes it may end up happening, however if it was as for sure of a thing as you keep thinking then no way he makes it through the season. If he makes it through the season, then shows it was not as for sure as you seem to think! Because I mean there is no reason to wait if they are going to fire him anyways, plus they have their coach who can step in. It's even easier for them to make the change.
December 8, 201114 yr Author I know you don't blame victims, but...this started when the kid was 15 years old. When I was 15, I would have thrown some serious haymakers if this dude would have touched me like is likely to have happened here. Why did this kid mess around w Fine and his wife for 12 years after that? This victim still had sexual contact w Fine at the age of 27 if I remember the story correctly. There is a lot to uncover in this story still. Lots of sick people in powers of authority
December 15, 201114 yr Now another victim has come forward. He lived at the Fine's house as a teenager in the 60's. I'm starting to think old Boeheim shouldn't have been so sure to tear apart the accuser.

They are kids that were in bad situations and the abusers knew it. They take advantage of them because they know it's less likely they will get caught. If you are abused as a teenager who's to say how you'll be mentally and sexually 10+ years later?
June 15, 201214 yr You can't under any circumstances call child sex abuse victims extortion artists grabbing for money when the wife of the child predator is having a taped conversation admitting to the abuse. Boeheim is very powerful and he was intimidating this accuser and any other potential accuser or witness. Nobody is comparing this to Paterno. He won't keep his job. He's done. He won't be the coach too much longer. With the Jerry Sandusky case going on it made me think about this case as well. I guess it was not as definite as you made it seem that Jim Boheim definitely would be fired. :sssh: I definitely could have understood if they fired him for that, and they still might. He definitely used a poor choice of words, and could have been fired for it and maybe should have. :thumb:
June 17, 201214 yr Yep. I guess he's untouchable. Some of the story fell apart, but there was enough there that he deserved to be fired IMO. Money is the end all be all just like at Penn State. I hope more doesn't come out of this story as far as victims because Joe Pa and all the rest of the greedy idiots at Penn St deserve a special place in hell.

Thats the only reason why I was thinking it was a definite he would be fired, because nothing seemed to be as for sure of a thing as it was with the Penn State scandal. However if he did get fired, I definitely would have understood it.

I think ridiculing possible child sex abuse victims and standing behind the accused, but backtracking shortly later is fireable at the least.
June 18, 201214 yr I never thought he was part of a cover up like Joe Pa. I think ridiculing possible child sex abuse victims and standing behind the accused, but backtracking shortly later is fireable at the least. I disagree. It didn't strike me that Boeheim knew the truth so he spoke about what he knew and how he felt. Once the truth came out he backtracked and apologized. I can see a suspension/fine but I think firing someone for not knowing the truth is too much.

I can see a suspension/fine but I think firing someone for not knowing the truth is too much. Which is why he shouldn't have spoke up. Fine was at the very least a strange bird that had this young kid stay in his hotel room on road trips. That isn't normal behavior for an adult male.
